Weird Looking White Deer

Check out this video of some pretty weird looking white deer that were spotted somewhere in Ohio.

Although these deer are not true albino deer, they still have some pretty unusual colored markings when compared to the normal deer that are around them. Also it is kind of hard to see in the video, but the person who shot this video claims that some of the weird deer are real furry when compared to the other deer. I personally couldn’t tell because of the low video quality, but it might be something to look for. Anyways these are definitely some really unusual looking deer.

Animals Endangered

Unfortunately there are endangered animals that are threatened with extinction in almost every part of this world. In the rest of this post I am going to introduce you to just a small portion of these animals endangered of extinction by mans encroachment on their natural habitat, and because of over hunting for their furs, and body parts.

Asiatic Wild Dog

The Asiatic Wild Dog also known as the Dhole is another one of those animals endangered by mans destruction of their natural habitat, and the over hunting of deer which is their main food source. The Asiatic Wild Dog can be found in India and China with their territory stretching as far south as Java. Currently it is estimated by biologists that there is only around 2,500 of these wild dogs left in their natural habitat.

These wild dogs are about the same size as the average medium sized household pet. The males are usually larger than the females and can reach up to 45 inches long and up to almost 45 pounds. As far as the color of their coats goes it varies from a cinnamon color all the way to a grayish brown and a yellowish color.

The Dhole like all dogs is a pack hunter, and one of the neat things about these interesting animals is that they are extremely vocal when hunting with each Dhole’s bark having a very distinct whistling sound that makes it very easy to identify each Dhole just by this sound.

alt

Ocelot

The ocelot is a medium sized cat that can weigh as much as 24 pounds and can grow to a length of almost five feet long. These rare animals are usually found South and Central America including Mexico and parts of Arizona and Texas.

These endangered animals are threatened with extinction mainly due to deforestation and mans encroachment upon their natural habitat, and over hunting for their valuable hides. In addition to that Ocelots are known to have very small litters of kittens after a longer than usual gestation period for similar sized cats. Plus they also have a high kitten mortality rate that just adds to the problem.

alt

Pygmy Chimpanzee

The pygmy Chimpanzee also known as the bonobo is one of those animals endangered by mans encroachment of their habitat and also because of over hunting of these primates for their meat and and their body parts that people of the region use as medicine and in religious rituals.

The pygmy chimpanzee was first discovered in 1933 as a distinct species. Even though they look very similar to a regular chimpanzee these apes are quite smaller in size and usually have longer hair, but unlike other chimpanzees the pygmy chimpanzee is only found in one remote lowland rain forest region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Because of it’s remote habitat and the constant civil unrest in that region of the world there is little known of this great ape.

Rare Animals

If you want to talk about rare animals they do not get any rarer than Lonesome George! Lonesome George is the last known Pinta Island Tortoise or his scientific name Geochelone Nigra Abingdoni known to exist. The Pinta Island Tortoise is one of eleven subspecies of the giant Galapagos Islands Tortoise.

Scientist thought that the Pint Island Tortoise was extinct until Lonesome George was discovered on December 1, 1971 by a snail biologist Joseph Vagvolgyi. Since then Lonsome George has been moved to the Charles Darwin Research Station and labeled the worlds rarest animal! The Charles Darwin Research Station also has a reward out of $10,000 for anyone who is able to find another pure bred Pint Island Tortoise.

alt

While we are talking about rare animals North American’s tallest bird should also be on this list. The Grus Americana or as it is commonly known as the Whooping Crane is definitely one of those animals endangered by dwindling numbers. Even though the whooping crane has a long lifespan of somewhere around 24 years these large birds are only breeding fast enough to sustain a very small population. It has been estimated that there are only about 250 of these rare birds left in the wild.

alt

Another rare animal is the Visayan Spotted Deer is an endangered species of nocturnal deer that lives mostly in the rain forests of Negros and Panay Islands in the Philippines. This rare deer has been suffering in numbers because of a decrease in it’s wild habitat. In 1996 scientists estimated that there were around 2,500 Visayan Spotted Deer left in the wild, since that time the numbers have dwindled down to an estimated 300 of these rare animals left in the wild.

alt

Although the rare animals in this post are just a small portion of the animals endangered by dwindling numbers and the possibility of becoming extinct. Unfortunately some of these rare animals may never recover and some day in the near future disappear completely from the wild!

Australia’s Strange Animals – Tasmanian Tiger

Australia has a lot of weird and strange animals. Most of these animals are so unusual that as soon as you see these strange animals most people are easily able to identify them as coming from Australia. Animals like the koala bear, kangaroo, and the duck billed platypus are just a few of these strange creatures, but I have one that you have possibly never heard of. It is the Thylacine or as it was commonly known the Tasmanian tiger.

The Tasmanian tiger also sometimes referred to as the Tasmanian wolf believe it or not is not a wolf or a tiger even though it kind of resembles a wolf with stripes. The Tasmanian tiger is actually a marsupial, just like the kangaroo or the koala bear, but unlike these typical marsupials that have forward opening pouches these strange animals have pouches that open to the rear of the animal that covers it’s four mammary glands.

alt

The Tasmanian tiger was capable of growing up to 51 inches long from the base of it’s tail to the tip of it’s nose. Although their bodies resemble that of a dog or wolf, the tail of the Tasmanian tiger is that of a typical marsupial and not that of the typical canid family. It just gradually tapers off of the body instead of sharply protruding like most mammals. As far as animals go these strange animals tails add an additional 20 to 26 inches to the over all length of their bodies.

The average Thylacine or Tasmanian tiger also stood around 24 inches tall at the top of their shoulder. As far as fur color these weird animals varied in range from a yellowish brown to a greyish brown color, with anywhere between 13 to 19 blackish brown tiger like stripes that start behind their shoulders and runs to the base of their tails. These animals were also comparable in weight to a medium size dog with average weight in a 35 to 65 pound range.

Unfortunately the Tasmanian tiger was hunted and trapped to the brink of extinction in Australia in the early 1900′s with a few rare creatures left in zoos. Then unfortunately the last known surviving thylacine died on August 9, 1931 at the London Zoo, where it had been on display since January 26, 1926. So officially this strange animal has been extinct since 1931, but still to this day people claim to see these creatures from time to time. Although no one has been able to come up with any pictures or physical proof of these claims.

Freaky Weird Animals – Amphibians

Amphibians really are not very scary creatures, but on occasion we come across one that definitely fits into the freaky weird animals website. So check out these strange animals I bet there are one or two that you have not seen before!

Giant Salamanders

Giant salamanders can be found in parts of the United States but it is the ones that are found in China and Japan that usually get most of the attention. These giant Asian salamanders are the largest living amphibians that we know of today.

These large amphibians live their lives in ponds and streams feeding on fish and crustaceans throughout their lives which have been known to last as long as 50 years. The smaller of the two giant Asian salamanders is the giant Japanese salamander also known as Andrias Japonicus. This monster amphibian has been known to reach lengths of up to 4 foot 7 inches. But if you are looking top dog in the salamander family it has to be the giant Chinese salamander. This weird creature can reach lengths of up to 5 foot 9 inches. They are definitely nothing I would want to find outside in my garden pond!

alt

alt

Purple Frog

The purple frog was just recently discovered in 2003 in India’s Western Ghats. Scientist claim that these strange looking frogs are the last remaining member of a prehistoric amphibian family that was roaming the earth during the times of the dinosaurs. These purple frogs right now are on the endangered species list with only 135 of them found to date.

alt

Japanese Transparent Frog

Now this is one of those truly weird animals. Get this some scientist in Japan at the Institute for Amphibian Biology at Hiroshima University mutant Japanese brown frogs also known as Rena japonica and developed these almost completely transparent frogs. The scientist created these strange animals by combining two types of recessive genes that causes the frogs to be pale.

These transparent frogs are used for research, and enable the scientist to observe how different toxins affect the different organs of the frog without dissecting them. If you look close in the pictures you can even see all of the frogs eggs that it is carrying.

alt

alt

Tree Headed Frog

Here is a bizarre creature for you. They claim that this picture is of a multi leg three headed frog that was found on a playground. Although this frog might be a freak of nature we will never know because the people that took this picture and a video that can be seen on YouTube let it escape before scientist could examine the strange creature.

It is not all that unusual for people to find frogs with multiple working limbs, but I don’t think I have ever heard of a frog or any other creature for that matter having more than two heads. Scientist believe that this is probably just a case of two over aggressive male frogs trying to mate with one female, but if this is actually is a three headed creature then it is the first one that I have ever heard of.

Freaky Weird Animals – Spiders

Spiders are one of those freaky weird animals that make most peoples skin crawl. Well if these strange animals bothered you before wait till you see the ones that I have listed here!

Mother Spider

One small spider is enough to give most people the creeps. So you can imagine what it would be like to find one large wolf spider in your house that was carrying around all her little spiders on her back. This is every ones worst nightmare. You kill the large spider with a flyswatter or your shoe and the next thing you know you have a hundred little spiders scurrying all over your floor!

Giant Bird Eating Spider

After seeing these golden orb spider pictures that were taken in a small town named Atherton located in Queensland, Australia. I could not even image playing out in the yard as a child and running around the corner of the house and catching one of these golden orb spiders and it’s large web right in the face. Honestly I think I would loose it. I got goose bumps just thinking of that. So if you do not like giant bird eating spiders I would stay away from Australia and these strange creatures!

alt

alt

Snake Eating Spider

I don’t know what the story is behind these pictures, but this is pretty wild looking. I have never heard of a spider catching and eating a snake before. This seems to be a black widow spider, but I could be wrong. I guess it is possible for a black widow spider to kill a small snake like this with it’s poison, and then pull it up into it’s web. So I guess this is possible. It is still a pretty scary looking set of pictures considering it looks like it is inside of a building possibly a house. who the hell has both black widows and small snakes loose in their house? This one definitely has to make it on my list of weird animals!

alt

alt

alt

alt

Worlds Largest Spider Web

Could you even imagine running into the largest spider web in the world? How about being surrounded by millions of tiny little spiders that are crawling everywhere and floating on the wind? Well one year on a farm owned by Russel Jervis millions upon millions of tiny little black spiders called Halorates ksenius showed up in his 60 acre clover field. These little weird animals just started spinning their webs and before Russel even knew what was going his whole clover field was one big giant spider web. This all happened near Prince George, British Columbia. I think I will mark that off my places to visit list!

alt

alt
Discovered by park rangers

This strange occurrence also happened at Lake Tawakoni State Park in Texas in August of 2007. Park rangers were surprised when they came across a football field wide web that stretched through the trees for more than 200 yards. It was also created from millions of spiders working together to weave this web. Unlike the above web which was created by one type of spider, this web was the culmination of 12 different species all working together.

Freaky Weird Animals – Cattle

Here is another creature that most people don’t really consider to be on the list of freaky weird animals, but bovine or other cattle related creatures come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some of which might just surprise you! So check out these strange animals below.

Valentines Day Calf

This tiny little ox calf is not the one of the weirdest animals on the cattle list, but it is interesting none the less. This little guy was born at Yamakun Farm near Tokyo, Japan a few years ago with a large white heart shaped patch of hair on it’s forehead.

alt

Britain’s Biggest Bovine

When you first look at these pictures the first thing that comes to mind is that is not real, or it is probably a Photoshopped picture like so many are on the internet. But that is not the case for this strange animal. This big guys name is Chilli. He is an overly large Freisian Steer that lives at the Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Britain.

Just looking at these pictures you can tell that Chilli is not your average bovine. He is an unbelievable 6 foot 6 inches tall at the top of his shoulder, measures right at 6 foot 7 inches long, and weighs over a ton. Chilli might not be the larges cow in the world, but With these staggering measurements Chilli has claimed the title of Britain’s Biggest Bovine!

alt

alt

World’s Largest Bull Horns

I bet you have never seen a bull with horns like this one! This weird animal is a Watusi bull from Africa. These unusual creatures are know for their extremely large horns. This Watusi bull is named Lurch, and his claim to fame is having the worlds largest horns. As you can see from the picture these things are huge! Measuring more than 92.25 cm and weighing a astonishing 100 pounds each it is surprising that Lurch is even able to raise his head up off the ground.

Massive Bull Horns

I don’t know the story behind this video, but it is a prime example of just how big the horns can get on some types of cattle. I believe this steer is a Watusi from Africa, but don’t quote me on that!

Super Cow

I think this breed of cattle has to be one of the strangest animals of the bunch. These are definitely not your normal every day cattle that you find in you local barn yard. These are Belgium Blue cattle, and they are known for their muscle sculpted bodies, which are sometimes called double muscled.

The Belgian Blue’s appearance is the result of a natural mutation in it’s genes along with selective breeding. As a result these these massive cows have a lean ripped muscular appearance.

Freaky Weird Animals – Polar Bears

I bet your thinking to yourself right now how the heck does a Polar bear make it onto a website about freaky weird animals? Well stick around and I will show you how even Polar bears can make it onto a website with some of the worlds strangest animals.

Purple Polar Bear

Look at this strange animal, and Yes that is a purple polar bear believe it or not! This usually white polar bear created quite the buzz about the Mendoza City Zoo in Argentina when it unexpectedly turned purple. It seams that the polar bear named Pelusa had a skin condition that the zoo officials were trying to treat, and as a result of the special treatment of this condition the polar bear turned purple.

The purple color only lasted for a little while, but it was quite that talk of the town and spread across the world news and internet like wildfire.

alt

alt

alt

Green Polar Bear

Green Polar Bears strangely enough is not that unusual. Oddly enough everyone always thinks of polar bears being white but in reality their hair is transparent. It only appears white because of the way that the air spaces between their hair reflects the light instead of absorbing it. I know that seems a little weird and kind of hard to comprehend.

As you probably have already figured out green polar bears are caused by the algae in the bears swimming pool. This algae though is not just merely on the surface of the bears fur, but is actually growing inside of each hair if that isn’t strange.

alt

Playing With Polar Bears

These polar bears don’t make it onto this list of weird animals because of their looks, but rather because of their actions. Everyone knows what good hunters these bears are, and how dangerous they can be. They are well know to be opportunity hunters when it comes to seals, and any other animal they can get a a hold of. That is why this video is so weird.

Normally a polar bear would attack and eat a dog let a lone a whole pack of dogs, but not these bears. They just lay there, and enjoy the dogs company. It is totally amazing to see these creatures who normally are enemies roll around, play, and lick each other with no aggression what so ever. This really is a great video and I highly recommend if you like it to get on YouTube and watch the rest of it!

Freaky Weird Animals – Giant Worms

I will have to admit when I think about freaky weird animals worms are not the first thing that comes to mind, but after seeing these different giant worms I might just have to rethink that!

Giant Sea Worm

In my opinion this giant sea worm also called a polychaete worm is one of those freaky weird animals that I definitely do not want to run into. This four foot long multi leg giant sea worm is just one of the strangest animals that I have seen in a while. Not only is this little guy four foot long it is also covered in thousands of tiny little hairs that are capable of permanently inflicting numbness if they come in contact with someone’s skin, if that wouldn’t be horrible.

This polychaete worm is nicknamed Barry. Barry was found in one of Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium’s display tanks, but that was only after months of this giant sea worm eating the live fish and coral reef in the display tank. The care takers of the aquarium kept noticing that the fish were disappearing and that the coral reef was being destroyed, but could not figure out why. So in an act of desperation to try and save the creatures of this tank, they decided to totally dismantle it so that they could find the culprit.

Well about half way through the dismantling of the display tank they found Barry the giant sea worm hiding in the coral. They believe that he had gotten into the tank as a juvenile by hiding inside of some live coral. So for all you salt water aquarium owners out there I hope you don’t end up with one of these weird animals in your tanks!

alt

Giant South African Earthworm

If you thought Barry the giant sea worm was a weird animal then wait till you hear about the Giant South African Earthworm it has to rank near the top of the list for weird animals. The Giant South African Earthworm also known as the Microchaetus Rappi holds the record for the longest earth worm. Back in 1967 the world record setting Microchaetus Rappi was found laying beside the road near William’s Town, South Africa this amazing creature measured a massive 22 feet long. Unfortunately I have not been able to track down any photo’s of this giant earth worm.

Giant Gippsland Earthworm

The Giant Gippsland Earthworm also known as the Megascolides australis even though it is no where near the size of the Giant South African Earthworm it is still one of those weird animals that I thought I should list here.

The Giant Gippsland Earthworm is only found in the small Bass River Valley of South Gippsland, Australia. These giant earthworms with their dark purple heads and blue gray body take about 5 years to reach maturity, and when they do have been known to reach lengths of up to 10 feet long! Could you even imagine seeing a 10 foot long earthworm out in your front yard?
