The first road tests of the Porsche`s new performance
hybrid have proved fruitful. Being one digit on from the iconic
Porsche 917 racing car means that it has some huge shoes to fill.
Not only did the 917 manage a consecutive victory at Le Mans in
1970 and 1971 but it is also considered by many as the greatest
racing car in history. Built in its image, the prototype 918 Spyder
(which is due to go on sale in September 2013) has made a great
first impression while out in its test mule-clothing and Porsche
reckons that it can uphold statistical claims. Housing a 4.6-litre
V8 with a whopping 570bhp and an additional 170bhp from two
electric motors gives it combined power of 770bhp. Thanks to the
hybrid technology it can also return 78mpg.

The most prestigious offering at Cannes Film Festival
used to be the golden palm award but we think that directors might
be wanting to take one of these gold-coloured Mercedes AMG models
home with them as well. To further tease the issue AMG will be
offering guests a `Driving Performance experience and various
models will be available to text drive along the French Riviera.
Another PR opportunity which also boosts awareness for a good cause
will be the launch of their gold SL 65 AMG 45th Anniversary Edition
at the Cinema Against AIDS Gala on May 24th.

Despite Mini saying it will not build the miniature
Rocketman due to finacial reasons they are still keeping the idea
of it very much alive. Recently the Rocketman was spied in London
doing a video shoot and was painted in patriotic red, white and
blue. Now we know parent company, BMW are sponsoring the 2012
London Olympics so maybe they have a surprise announcement awaiting
us? Perhaps they will officially launch the Rocketman and commit to
build it in limited numbers after all? The concept already has the
British Union Jack illuminated on its full-surface glass roof and
the light weight four-seater which measures about 3.419 meters in
length would be an ideal mode of transport to zip in and out of
busy traffic.

Mazda and Alfa Romeo will be the new proud parents of a
new generation of light weight rear-wheel drive roadsters based
upon the MX-5. The two brands will be using the same embryo (so to
speak) but will develop models with their own identity and style;
they will also use different engines and gearboxes. Alfa Romeo
promise to keep the bloodline of their breed prominent but feel
that teaming up with the leader in the RWD compact market will
boost profits and appeal. Both twins will be built at Mazda’s
facility in Hiroshima, Japan but the next generation Mazda MX-5
will go on sale in 2014 and Alfa Romeo`s version a year later.

If you were smitten by last year`s Amari Range Rover
Sport Windsor Edition but thought the wide wheel arches were a
little too imposing then this one`s for you. Amari`s adjustments
include a revised front bumper with wider facia, new rear bumper
with deep diffuser, a larger rear spoiler, Daytime Running Lights
and custom exhaust tips. We wonder whether the Queen will be
treating herself to one for her Jubilee celebrations? The gold
detailing would work very well with the crown, don`t you think,
Ma`am?

Renault`s sub-brand `Alpine` has been dormant for almost
twenty years but now it seems it could be revived. This leaked
image appears to be the manufacturers own shot but Renault were not
yet ready to announce the details and occasion that has brought it
about. Much of the speculation points to the Alpine Sports car
marking the 50th anniversary of the Alpine A110 which won the first
World Rally Championship held in 1973. Five years later and the
Renault-powered Alpine won the Le Mans 24 hour race. Two years ago
the Renault Dezir concept surfaced and now the Alpine Sports Car
concept is taking on its identity. The mid-engined 3.5-litre V6
with 400bhp and a kerb weight of 400bhp is due to be unveiled at
the Monaco GP next Friday.

The objective for these Renault tuning specialists was
to give 197 and 200 owners additional low and mid-range engine
performance from the Clio’s F4R 830 engine. The need for more
torque and tractability are especially important to track-day
enthusiasts who can now enjoy an extra 12lb ft of torque at 3600rpm
and an additional 10 lb ft on between 5200-7500rpm. An extra 10bhp
is also available at 5200rpm, and a 15bhp increase at 7000rpm. The
rev limit is also raised to 7500rpm. Included in the £1366.80 price
is a set of Cat Cam 402 high performance billet steel camshafts, a
genuine Renault cam timing belt, a set of genuine Renault camshaft
caps, installation by K-Tec Racing’s technicians and bespoke K-Tec
Racing OBDII ECU remap. The performance package is also covered by
the firm’s recently introduced 12 month / 30,000 mile supplementary
warranty policy.
