(More customer reviews)Recently, I saw Albert Brooks on Late Night with David Letterman, talking about Finding Nemo. Brooks, who stars as the voice of Marlon, the daddy fish, had taken his son (who, I believe was about five years old, the equivalent human age of Nemo), to the premiere. After about five minutes, Brooks said his son leaned over to him, and quietly said, the way a grownup might, "I cannot watch this movie," and walked out. Late in the movie, the son returned, having obviously been crying. Leaning over, Brooks assured his son, "You are not Nemo."
Such is the power of this fish story about father and son clownfish who become separated, and must struggle to find their way back to each other. Marlon is a loving but neurotic and overprotective father; Nemo is a frustrated young fish who wants to be independent and see the world, and resents his father for preventing him from doing so. We see an ocean (read: the world) that is a terrible, heartless, and yet joyous place that we frail fish must confront, as best we can, because there's no alternative.
The animation was done by the wonderful folks from Pixar, who are the closest thing to the reincarnation of Walt Disney. There is simply no comparison between the animation of the typical, visually flat, politically correct, contemporary animated movie (many of which are produced by Walt Disney Pictures!) and Nemo. In Nemo, the ocean floor looks like the ocean. And the characters are all ... characters. (More customer reviews)I recently bought this model from the Toys R Us close to my house. I was excited because the box was pretty big, so I assumed that the model itself would be big.
but...That's not really the case.
The model is a pretty decent size (I think around 19 inches, but I'm not sure). It's about the same size as the standard Ertl Star Trek models. Also, the description says that it has over 75 pieces, which is NOT true.
My biggest complaint is the building process with this model. It seems like they just wanted to boast more pieces, instead of making it more "user friendly". Some of the parts must be glued, then held together for a period of time. And the pieces that you have to hold (or temporarily tape, I suppose) are either long pieces, or really thin pieces.
This model is definately cool, but it really doesn't seem like it's targeted at younger or inexperienced modelers. One big advantage is that it's molded in a a pretty good grey plastic, so younger modelers who don't want to paint it could leave it, and still have it look nice. I also comes with glue, paint and a brush, so that's a nice addition for the aforementioned group.
If you have the patience for it, I'd definately recommend it.

I thought the toy was going to be more engaging than it actually is, but my baby loves it, I guess because of its simplicity.It annoys me, though, that those six Spanish songs, which I treasure from my own childhood, are not complete- the versions of them are too short!

(More customer reviews)We are big fans of the Little Touch books as a way for us to sit with our little guy and look at the pictures.(He is 10 months now, but we started with this book at 6 months.)We like several of the books, but the sounds and messages of this Pooh Bear book are delightful.We often shut off the story and just use the pictures and sounds to talk to the baby.It is a very engaging way to calm him and share a quiet time.It is not a substitute for reading to the him, but it is a fun additional activity.

First Act Discovery FG130 Student Acoustic Guitar Review

(More customer reviews)After reading the reviews listed here, I felt compelled to write one of my own.I too purchased one of these guitars for my child who showed an interest in the same.I thought this would be a great beginning for her instead of buying one, or renting one for lots of money just to maybe find out later she didn't like it.So far, I have had no trouble with this product, however, I have taught my daughter to handle the guitar with care eventhough it was labeled a "toy".
It's durability could be made a little better, however, it is apparent the instrument was built with affordability in mind.In short, the wood seems very fragile, however it is small and light for children.
As for tuning the guitar, I had it tuned by a professional who had no trouble doing the same, and concurred it was a good start for my daughter without having a lot of investment.He also showed me how to tune it myself so I may also show her, and toavoid the possible risk of her or I snapping the strings.
I believe the hardest part in teaching guitar to a child, is knowing what book to buy!After careful research and discussion with others, I would recommend purchasing First Act's Learn & Play Guitar book & video which is an excellent resource for the very, very beginner.After that, I recommend buying other books as the child progresses at a music store with professional recommendation.
In summary, I feel this product is a good starting point for children and their parents alike, however, please understand eventhough it is labeled a "toy", the guitar still needs to be handled with care, and if tuned too tight, the strings will break as with any guitar.In all, I feel it is a good product for children provided they know how to respect it.I will keep you posted on its'performance.

Barbie B-Book- Pink Review

(More customer reviews)I was reluctant to purchase this because I was disappointed in a Barbie workbook we purchased. This product had the same issues - I doubt that kids or teachers or parents were consulted in designing this game. First, you cannot set the levels.For "awesome addition" it started asking 8+0 for level 1 and then asked 15+8 (still in level 1). Then, in next level it asks questions like 37+24 (a big jump!).You can't stay in level one, which is frustrating.Other games were similar.

In the shape game, you are told to put "repeat the shapes in the right order" but not told that the order is determined by the first to arrive at the right of the screen (not top to bottom - which is what my daughter and I both assumed). Furthermore, Barbie does not offer a clue as to why your daughter got it wrong 4 times.

This is sad because girls love Barbie and she could do so much good if they would just consult anyone with a clue.

The sound quality is really, really good, but besides that it's a lot of fun for him to make music without the fear of breaking little keys. (More customer reviews)This toy has been around for quite a few years and has been through several design changes. All the models before the latest one accepted the various cartridges. This one does not. There is a switch that lets you change between three music styles. Amazon still hasn't caught on to this and is featuring a cartridge with the machine in it's "better together" promo. If you want a machine that accepts cartridges you will have to buy an old one off of EBAY. That's what I did after I bought a bunch of cartridges and then bought the new machine and found out they wouldn't work in it.

First, it calls for "D" batteries on the box as well as on the battery compartment; however, when you open up the case it holds only "AA" batteries. After inserting batteries he breathed once and then stopped. He still doesn't breathe regularly but will occassionally when my husband hits him in the correct spot. If my daughter didn't like the animal so much I would return it.

(More customer reviews)I bought this today for my 6 year old son because we had signed him up for T-Ball and I thought this would be great for him to practice with. I put it together and tapped the button for the ball to come up to the velcro tether and it worked fine. That was the first and last time it worked. The sounds are great, but I was bummed that the mechanism that brings the balls up only worked once.The tether that holds the balls so you can hit them is also kind of low. Kids have to be 3 or 4 to really have fun at that height. Overall it's a cute toy. If I had it to all over again, I think I would pass. Plus it comes with only 3 velcro balls that have to stay dry and clean or they won't stick to the velcro. And there are no refills of the balls if you need more.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my six year old daughter for Christmas.This wasn't a toy she was immediately drawn to, but after we spent some time with her showing her how it works (particularly the quiz part) she really liked it.She also likes the fact that it lights up!

She liked it so much that she took it to school for Show N Tell.The teacher was impressed that our six year old already knows the body parts and answered most of the quiz questions correctly!

I would recommend this toy to anyone; don't think your child is too young to learn from it!
