This is probably not a good idea (at all) unless you already have a client-base of people looking for web hosting services or you somehow cater to the industry (and have a reputation).

Check out the pricing on eBay for web hosting accounts – I just looked & saw an ad for 3 years of ‘unlimited’ web hosting for .95.

Reselling web hosting space is not easy (all support issues go to you until you can hire a proper tech) and it would be really, really difficult to pull a profit (let alone ,000/month) without a unique selling position and a large, already-established base of people interested in your services.

Now – I’m throwing something out here, but you may be able to fast-track your way into the business by an insane offer & excellent services… Setup a contest and give away something like a new car for an active customer at some point down the road. Something like this would likely get an immense amount of press (TV, radio, newspaper, online, etc) & you could bypass the need to advertise as it would be done for you. Obviously there are many different points that you’d need to address so that you didn’t come to financial ruin, but it’s an idea.

This gist of what I’m saying is this: short of already being in the industry, offering a unique twist to what current hosting accounts offer or stepping out on a dangerous limb to get attention – I don’t think this is a good idea for a business venture.

Yes I am doing business as a reseller.

My experience is that you must not pay upfront for webhost reseller. Because you still unsure whether you will get clients on your first month or not. Suppose you get 1 client on your first month, that alone won’t cover your monthly reseller expenses. Let alone gaining profit.

I found a free reseller from TLS Hosting ( http://tlshosting.com/resell ). There, you’ll get your ready-to-promote subdomain (if you don’t want to white label or have your own domain), and web store. It’s all free for you.

As for their quality, you won’t have to worry. I’ve been their reseller for a long time, and they reply to my reseller and my hosting tickets in under 45 minutes, even on weekends or late at night. Besides, I monitored all my hosted websites with them using pingdom service. They all are 99.99% uptime. TLS Hosting is awesome

Just as other online business, making profit is highly possible, but it is not instant. It needs work, persistent, passion, and patient.

May be your question is : “is it possible to quit my daily job?”. I’m telling you, I quit my daily job already =D Once you understand where and how to get your clients, your hosting reseller business will boost up. My learning curve is about 1-2 years. You might be faster than that =)

“Best” features is subjective. Individual suggestions you might get here are only what one person thinks is best. Check out Ebay. When I was looking for hosting, I found dozens which were all low cost, charging by the year rather than month to month. Cost per month/year varied, but were all relatively close relative to the features offered. For example higher bandwidth limits cost more in proportion and every package I examined was reasonable, mostly. I did find several which were simply too high a price for what was offered. Compare the dozens offered against each other and choose one which seems the best bang for the buck which meets your needs. My host is http://www.vamphost.com but the package of theirs I got through Ebay was a better deal then the standard offerings they have on the home page, at about half the price per year of their lowest package on their home page. Which is why poking around at Ebay may be a good way to go, packages offered on Ebay may turn out to be a better deal than you could have gotten from the same host otherwise through their regular channels. It worked for me.

Unfortunately, They don’t provide you customer support for your reselling business which is an important aspect of your business.

On the other hand, Godaddy, offers a wide variety of products to choose from including web hosting, domains, private domain registration, SSL, website builder, email and hosted Exchange. Godaddy also manages the billing and technical support for your customer. Business and your website is ready to go in as soon as possible. However, Godaddy
had a difficulty issue in integrating it with custom sites. Not using cPanel, which may be required by some customers.
