Comparing the two, both have absolutely amazing sound but the difference you get in sound between a closed and open pair of headphones is obvious. The BD 770s definitely have a punchier bass but I feel they sacrifice some of the highend clarity that an open headphone like the HD 580s offer which is simply due to the fact that one is open and one is closed. I feel like they are a suitable duo, both providing an extremely solid, superb, and crystal clear sound. My tastes are definitely in the electronic and classicalinstrumental areas and I would definitely say that the 580s perform better in the classical setting and the 770s perform better in the electronic area. The construction is extremely good and havent had and dont foresee any problems in the future.
