Motion and voice control are coming to the Harry Potter universe with Eurocom-developed title on the way from WB Interactive for the Kinect. Harry Potter for Kinect is on the way this fall for the Xbox 360 and looks to be the answer to Sony’s own well-crafted magic-n-waggle game for their own console, Sorcery (my review).

Eurocom’s bread and butter is licensed adaptations, and in addition to Harry Potter for Kinect, they’re also producing 007 Legends for Activision.

Here are the official details from the release:

Based on all eight Harry Potter films, Harry Potter for Kinect allows players to join Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger as they embark on an unforgettable journey through Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and beyond. With Kinect’s scanning technology, for the first time ever in a Harry Potter game, players will be able to scan in their own face to create a unique witch or wizard to journey through the adventures of the film.

In addition, Kinect’s hands-free and voice recognition capabilities allow gamers to cast spells using physical maneuvers and by calling out spell names, offering an extraordinary, immersive Harry Potter experience.

“Harry Potter for Kinect will engage Harry Potter fans old and new by bringing them into the wizarding world as truly active participants,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Kids and parents will enjoy recreating their favorite Harry Potter adventures, from flying a broomstick in a Quidditch match, to battling pixies and duelling other wizards. “

Harry Potter for Kinect gives players the opportunity to experience some of the films’ most memorable moments, both as the relevant characters or as their own avatars, including visiting Ollivanders, choosing a house at Hogwarts, and confronting He Who Must Not Be Named in a climactic final battle. Players who master their lessons can also take on their opponents in competitive mini-games, or join forces with family and friends in co-op gameplay.

Right as Des was getting ready to lose her last life (this round) to Bowzer and his minions, the doorbell rings. In a cruel twist of fate, it’s UPS, delivering three late Xmas presents. Looks like despite my intentions to brave the cold and wander the city today, it’s going to be a Nintendo day for Des… again.

(I can’t believe I’m saying this, but am seriously considering buying a second DS, as Des has not been this hooked on anything since the Harry Potter book series.)

Harry Potter for Kinect announced with debut screenshots and trailer

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has today announced a new Harry Potter adventure game, but instead of releasing across multiple platforms, Warner’s game will be exclusive to Xbox 360 and Kinect.

Currently in development at Eurocom (GoldenEye 007, 007 Legends), Harry Potter for Kinect is due for release later this year and will, according to WBIE, “cast a spell among Harry Potter fans of all ages.”

Harry Potter for Kinect is based on all eight of the Harry Potter films and will include the adventures of Harry Potter himself, as well as friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger as they “embark on an unforgettable journey through Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and beyond.”

Thanks to Kinect, however, the game will allow players to scan in their own face with which to create a unique witch or wizard to play as, while the device’s controller-free motion sensing and voice recognition capabilities will let you use physical gestures and voice commands to cast spells.

Competitive mini-games and co-operative play is also promised in Harry Potter for Kinect.

Senior Vice President of Production and Development at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Samantha Ryan, said of the game:

“Harry Potter for Kinect will engage Harry Potter fans old and new by bringing them into the wizarding world as truly active participants.
