Studies have shown that Passion flower reduces withdrawal symptoms from drugs and alcohol including benzodiazepines. Passion flower contains molecules known as vitexins which apigenin is a member. It is believed that apigenin binds to the benzodiazepine site on the GABA channel allowing for the channel to remain open longer effectively inhibiting the neuron from firing if it has excitatory inputs coming in. Seredyn by BioNeurix comes well recommended by most consumers with ratings between 3 and 5 stars and there are many reviews. There is no doubt this all natural supplement helps to relieve anxiety and create a calm state. That’s not surprising because all 3 botanicals Valerian, Passion flower and L-theanine bring about alpha brain waves essentially calming the whole brain. And, these botanicals do it without side effects. BioNeurix is known for their high end supplements.
Has its pros and cons ,
I’ve used Seredyn on an “as needed basis” and I can say it definitely calms my body down, although it doesn’t necessarily take away all panic or anxiety symptoms. Sometimes when I’m on it, my mind will continue to race or look for a way out but my body feels calm. It’s a strange feeling. However, I do believe it HELPS with anxiety and panic attacks. I can’t say it completely takes it away, but I can definitely tell that I am a little more relaxed when I take it. 4 stars
My experience; calm and tense at the same time ,
I had a major event coming up in August of 2007 so I started looking for something that would help my nerves. Instead of going to the store (the logical choice), I did an internet search and found Seredyn.
I took Seredyn for that event and it seemed to work because I wasn’t nervous on the supplement, just calm and a little agitated (the anxiety).
I didn’t take Seredyn again because, in all honesty, I forgot about it. I instead went to the doctor and got a prescription for Klonopin. I only needed Klonopin’s affects for an hour. Klonopin numbed me for an hour, then gave me a hangover for 5 days. I couldn’t function like that so I started looking for supplements again.
This time, I went to the store and found something called True Calm so now I have something to compare Seredyn to.
Seredyn calms you, but the underlying anxiety and panic are still there. I would wake up in the middle of the night stressed (on Seredyn) yet it had me so sleepy that I didn’t even feel like going to work. Thus, I was calm and stressed at the same time. (Another reviewer had the same experience)
True Calm by Now just calms you and seems to also erase some of the anxiety without numbing you. I can’t recommend True Calm because I haven’t taken it but 3 times, but I did like its feeling over Seredyn. 3 stars
Maybe Requires Awareness ,
After reading some of the negative reviews about this product, I
felt compelled to describe my experience with Seredyn. I am not
affiliated with the company in any way, although I do work in the
nutritional supplements industry. Seredyn is my top choice to
overcome panic and anxiety. I have had panic episodes since my
teen years, and Seredyn not only calms me down but also improves
my mood. I can’t explain why others here say it “does nothing”
other than I’ve heard people say that all my life when taking
herbs or supplements. I think people get in a mind fog, are
thinking too much about the game Saturday night, or the soap
opera they saw today that they can’t really process and feel the
benefits of some of these products.
Or maybe people have different body chemistries or whatever, so I
can only go on my own experience. Again, I’ve tried probably
forty alternative-healing remedies, and Seredyn is hands-down my

Everybody is unique , check ingredients ,
I was looking for something to take for insomnia and anxiety. I came across Seredyn and read the varying reviews. Because it works for some and not others I decided to do a little research on what’s in this product. I found Valerian Root, Passion Flower and Suntheanine, a patented extract of the amino acid L-Theanine (I’m guessing that this company has the patent.) Valerian Root is for insomnia, but for some people, like me, it wakes you up. So, I can’t take this supplement because of the Valerian Root. If you have no problem with Valerian then I think this product would be helpful. I looked into Panicyl, which a reviewer mentioned (from the same company) and this product has the ingredients: Ashwagandha, GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) and L- Theanine (an amino acid). GABA and L-Theanine are suppose to be relaxing and calming, and Ashwagandha is an “adaptogenic herb which is proposed to increase the body’s resistance to stress, trauma, anxiety and fatigue”. (Wikepedia) This one seems better for me, so I guess it comes down to finding what works for you. Hope this limited info is helpful. 3 stars
Just amazing!
I have only taken 2 tablets so far but the results are fantastic.
I was skeptical as I have tried Buspar and Lexapro but those left
me feeling dizzy and uncomfortable. But this simply makes me feel
normal and relaxed…and it actually has blocked my feelings of
panic tremendously.
Obviously everyone is different but I highly recommend at least
trying this product. I am honestly blown away as I have suffered
from anxiety since I was a child, and this is the first time I
actually have hope that these horrible feelings can be

Calming ,
I’ve lived with anxiety since for over ten years and sometimes have horrible fits that leave me completely immobile, my muscles seize up, my heart pounds, my stomach completely knots up, and I barely sleep. My mom (who never used to be into herbal stuff) recommended this to me as a starting point. I was completely panicked one morning and took three Seredyn. In much less than an hour, my muscles untended, and I was able to feel hungry as my stomach relaxed and tired as I came down from my panic. I was able to laugh, talk, and eat again and work through the problem instead of feeling like my body was seized up.
This may not work the same way for other people, but my experience proved to me that this is an extremely effective remedy for me. 5 stars
I love this product ,
I began taking Seredyn as an alternative to Lexapro, or any SSRI, and while in the withdrawal of the Lexapro I took the maximum recommended dose of 3 capsules at one time. I felt an immediate effect. I have continued to take them (since May) and there is no question in my mind that they are keeping me calm, level, and at ease. I am not exaggerating, when I build up in tension, I take 3 Serenades, and within 30 minutes the tension has disappeared. My husband is also taking them with the same results. Works for me!
I have been using Seredyn for some time now – and it’s great. It is a herbal product, so it doesn’t work like normal tranquilizers, maybe it’s not that fast. In the beginning I didn’t feel immediate results, but after I took 2 capsules twice a day for several days, I felt much better and much more relaxed, and I didn’t have problems falling asleep. That’s the thing about natural products – they don’t work as fast, but the effects are long-lasting, and you don’t get addicted. I will stick to that product. 5 stars
I’ve used it for several years ,
I have Grave’s Disease, a form of hyperthyroidism, and it works wonders for calming the “jittery” feeling, it also eases the heart palpitations common to the disease. Taking with grapefruit juice seems to potentiate the effects of Seredyn somewhat, I’ve noticed that when I was taking any kind of medications to decrease stomach acidity like Nexium, Seredyn doesn’t work very well. As mentioned in another post, it does physically calm the body down. 4 stars

Seredyn is best taken on an empty stomach but can be taken with food. You should feel relief within 15 to 60 minutes depending on whether you take it with or without food.
For chronic anxiety and worry: Take 1 to 2 capsules up to 3 times a day.

When I’m just jittery (anxious), (10-15 drops) of purecalm does the job. I typically do what it says and mix in a 1/4 cup of water.
I know the symptoms of what I’m experiencing pretty well now, so if the anxiety is a bit stronger, sometimes I combine purecalm with (6-8 drops of) lemon balm. I like taking the two of these together.
If I have an uneasiness in my head, I sometimes combine purecalm
with mindsoothe. I don’t like paying 30 bucks for this, and I
take it sparingly, but it helps the crazy thoughts about what’s
happening to me and my body.
The last thing I have taken is valerian root. Dr. Oz said on tv
one day that when people feel anxious, they should take Valerian
root. But this product really should only be taken in the
evening… seems to help with sleep.

Even then, it might not work if your chemistry is highly unusual. From what I understand, Piracetam needs a lot of acetyl-choline to work, so you have to give your body the necessary precursors so it can synthesize more of it than it would need if you weren’t taking it. Otherwise, the drug may not work or you might get a headache if your acetyl-choline gets depleted. Choline, Lecithin, DMEA or Centrophenoxine are all acetyl-choline precursors, with Lecithin being the least expensive and easiest to find and Centrophenoxine being the most expensive, hardest to find, yet possibly most effective source since it also acts as a nootropic all on its own.
This drug is definitely worth a try, as it is non-addictive and the risks of taking it regularly are almost nothing. If it doesn’t work on its own, be sure to try stacking it with an acetyl-choline precursor and changing your schedule a bit, getting some exercise, etc. If you have trouble with sleep, try 5-HTP and Melatonin. You really have to get the right balance between the four neurotransmitters in your brain for it to work right, and all kinds of things can throw it off. I really feel that this drug, in the right body/brain environment, will work wonders!
As far as the dosage goes, as with any drug I recommend you start low, with 800mg. I noticed a definite yet subtle effect within about 30 minutes at that dosage level. Taking more, at least for me, does not seem to make much of a difference. In fact, it may even decrease the effects. So if it’s not working, you might try decreasing the dosage if increasing it does not work. Some people talk about attack doses and the like, but I would only recommend increasing the dosage if you don’t notice anything within an hour or two. You never know how your body will interact with a new drug, and it’s better to have nothing happen than to overdo it and wind up in a weird or uncomfortable place. This stuff has been clinically proven to be extremely non-toxic, so you can take a lot without putting yourself at risk, but I wouldn’t take more than 4800mg in a 24-hour period. Good luck!” 5 stars

DHA also causes me to need to drink more water, so one pill every other day again helps moderate that too. Also, it’s very important to eat it with a meal, as it definitely irritates my hiatal hernia (causing heartburn) whenever I’ve not eaten it right after a meal.
As far as the commenter mentioning smell, I’m guessing that might be from either too long a shelf life or being kept in too warm an environment.
However, the reason for my 3 stars only is that I find that this promotion of Algal DHA to be rather deceptive, even if it is not explicitly being deceptive. One might think this is a vegetarian product (probably the biggest reason someone would go for Algal DHA instead of the more common fish oil DHA), but the ingredients include “Porcine Gelatin”, or in other words, pig by-products such as their bones, skins, and tendons. The pleasant-sounding “Carmine” is also derived from insects. So, if you’re trying to avoid fish oil for vegetarian reasons, this might not be what you want.
Unfortunately the vegan “Deva”-brand alternative out there seems to cost quite a bit more, so for now, as a non-vegetarian who simply prefers to consume fewer animal products where practical, I’m reluctantly sticking with this for now.” 3 stars

Update 01/21/12: After using this product for months at a time, I felt it was far superior to the CDP-choline (which has fallen farther behind than the “close second” I described it as being previously). I wasn’t absolutely sure if what I was feeling was “true” as the placebo effect for many supplements can play a far bigger role than the supplement itself. Which is exactly what the placebo effect is, and my biggest fear when deciding on supplements to take. No one wants to dish out hard-earned money for self-delusional mind-tricks, even if they do “help” in the end. However, even after initial skepticism (which I always have in order to catch myself playing mind-tricks on myself), this product has performed consistently well and as I was searching for the entry on nootropics on wikipedia, I read this: “Alpha-GPC–thought to be the only cholinergic that delivers choline to the brain across the Blood-brain barrier; sold under its chemical name”. I have absolutely found this to be the case, as all my other supplements I have taken that float around the nootropic forum discussion haven’t had nearly the effect on my learning as these have. And I read this after I had already decided this was the real deal. In other words, I have now become a disciple for the product. I should mention, however, that this product has proven useless by itself (at least for me). When it’s combined with a CNS stimulant, such as caffeine or whatever else you’re privy to, the effects stand out big time. So, taking it in conjunction with something else will reap the biggest reward for you. Just an opinion based on my observation and many others how frequent forums on nootropics. If you’re interested in a particular stack that is popular for its cognitive-enhancing effects, check out my review on 5-hour energy. Note: it is NOT in defense of the product and actually details how to make the “cocktail” of supplements out of 4 products bought cheaply on amazon.
