width408 height241 pp styletextalign justifySpeaking at the Mobile
Internet Conference in Beijing, a Nokia senior manager revealed a
few of the company8217s plans for the coming year, covering both
Symbian and some tantalising pieces of hardware too.pp
styletextalign justifyBeginning with Symbian, the operating system
will see its first wave of updates during Q1 next year. A slide
provided an overview of at least 50 new features planned, including
a revised UI and an improved browser. Then, during both Q2 and Q3,
further updates will be generated, featuring a 8216new look and
feel for the user interface8217, a HTML5compatible browser and a
more userfriendly software update method.pp styletextalign
justifyYou may remember Nokia took Symbian back under their wing
recently, shelved the 3 and 4 names, and promised to push through
smaller, more regular updates to advance the OS, rather than one
big upgrade every now and then. Will the Q2 and Q3 updates turn the
Symbian we currently know into what would have been Symbian4pp
styletextalign justifyMoving on to the hardware we can expect from
Nokia over the coming 12 months, things were a little more cryptic
and although no actual models were mentioned, we can expect some
phones to be powered by 1GHz processors during Q2 and Q3, and
potential dualcore monsters at the end of the year. A feature
Computerworld called a 8216true zoom camera8217 was also listed,
which sounds suspiciously like an optical zoom to us.pp
styletextalign justifyWith all the changes which have taken place
at Nokia this year, these plans suggest a seriously motivated team
is now in place, which should make for a fascinating 2011.pa
