Sand Trap is one of those games that at first seem
too hard to bother with, but when you try to stop playing it you
discover you're
hooked.
The goal is to get as much sand as you possibly can out of the maze
and into the bucket at the bottom of the screen. You need to rotate
your maze every which way to get the sand rolling around it. You
then try to direct the sand to one of the exits of the maze, and
hopefully into the bucket. It took me several tries to actually get
sand into the bucket, but that might be due to the fact that I
didn't even realize the bucket was there at first. Things improved
significantly after that.
As you level up, the mazes get more complicated, with moving parts
and other things making your life more difficult. Once you manage
to get through all these obstacles and get enough sand into your
bucket, you can move on.
As I mentioned, this is not an easy game, but it's highly
addictive. The graphics remind me of some long lost game from the
80s, but this just proves that you don't need super graphics and
crazy sound to make a game work. There's a soothing guitar track
playing in the background and that's it, as far as I could hear,
and you can enjoy it just as much with no sound at all.
If you like a fun physics challenge, don't miss out on this one!

With one of the original
5-inch Streak's chief downsides being that it was
considered too small to be a
proper tablet, Dell did the
sage thing this January and introduced a 7-inch variant in the
Streak 7. The newer slate is outfitted with a
nice Tegra 2 dual-core chip, 16GB of storage, a 5 megapixel rear-
and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, a WVGA (800 x 480)
display, and now the eminently reasonable UK price of £299 ($487).
Alas, where Dell fell short with its Streak family expansion was in
installing Android 2.2 on the 7, which hasn't changed during its
trip over the Altantic, and in offering pretty poor battery life --
which
might actually be a bit better here since Brits are
receiving the WiFi-only model. Then again, if we're having to
praise a device for improving itself by omitting a valuable feature
like 3G, perhaps that tells you all you need to know about its
viability. At least the Streak 7 is priced correctly and Dell does
promise a Honeycomb update is in the offing. You can order yours at
Dell's UK outlet linked below or jump past the break to familiarize
yourself with the company's press release.

Wordpress.com
has revealed that someone has gained root-access
("low-level," as in deep)to several of its servers this morning
and that VIP customers' source code was accessible. Wordpress.com
VIP customers are all on "code red" and in the process of changing
all the passwords/API keys they've left in the source code.
"Tough note to communicate today: Automattic had a low-level
(root) break-in to several of our servers, and potentially
anything on those servers could have been revealed. We
have been diligently reviewing logs and records about the
break-in to determine the extent of the information exposed, and
re-securing avenues used to gain access. We presume our source
code was exposed and copied. While much of our code is Open
Source, there are sensitive bits of our and our partners? code.
Beyond that, however, it appears information disclosed was
limited."

At its "Spectacularge" press conference today Sharp announced
its new
70-inch LC-70LE732U is the largest LCD HDTV on the
market . It sports
Quattron four color pixels, full LED
backlighting, Netflix, CinemaNow, Vudu Apps and DLNA access among
its list of features, but no 3D. That will be remedied by one of
the three additional models of 70-inch LCDs Sharp says it will ship
this summer but in the meantime we're just enjoying a throwback to
the heady days of
2006 when consumer LCDs were last found in this
size range. Interested parties with enough green to cover the
$3,799 MSRP should be able to order these at their local retailers,
while the rest can gawk at the specs in the press release and
hands-on shots. Oh, and as for those adjectives you'll see just
past the break -- a preview of Sharp's marketing campaign, whose
target customer has an "emotional" connection to the word big --
well, somewhere Freud is having a field day.

Rejoice! No longer will you have to fork over $700 for a
Photoshop CS5 license! Adobe has unveiled
a new subscription scheme where you can rent the
entire Creative Suite, or individual packages, by the month, or for
an entire year.
Adobe Photoshop can be yours for $35 per month if you agree to rent
it for 12 months, or $49 per month if you require its services for
a shorter period. Dreamweaver can be had for even cheaper, at just
$19 per month. The entire Master Collection is still rather
expensive, though, at $125 per month.
Today, Adobe also ushered in the release of
Creative Suite 5.5, and simultaneously upped its
release cycle from 18 months to 24 months. This means, if you rent
Photoshop for two years, it's actually the same cost as buying it
outright. There's no rent-to-own option, though -- so you wouldn't
have access to the cheaper upgrade price once Creative Suite 6
rolls around next year. Still, if you need access to Photoshop,
After Effects or Premiere for a one-time project, the new rental
scheme could be exactly what you're looking for.
In other news, Adobe has announced that it will be launching three
rather exciting iPad apps that work in conjunction with Photoshop:
Eazel, Nav, and Color Lava. Eazel lets you
five-finger paint on your iPad, and export the result into
Photoshop; Nav acts as some kind of workspace, brush and menu
extension, and the hopefully named Color Lava is a paint mixing
palette. The apps are expected to appear in the App Store in the
next 30 days.
You can now rent Adobe Photoshop for $35 per
month, CS 5.5 available soon originally appeared on Download

Rafael Rivera and Paul Thurrott have
posted a second look at some of the early
changes which have surface in
Windows 8 milestone 3. First there was the
restyled Welcome Screen, and now it appears that
Microsoft is toying with bringing the Ribbon UI to Explorer.
The Ribbon, like in Microsoft Word and Excel, is context-aware,
adding tabs for specific tasks which apply to the folder you're
viewing -- such as library or picture management. You can also make
out two new buttons in the status bar, which allow you to change
the current folder's view style.
It's clear from all the placeholder images and repeated elements
that this is very much a work in progress, but featuring the Ribbon
more prominently in Windows 8 would certainly be a logical
progression for Microsoft. It's slowly become more ubiquitous,
moving beyond Office and into Wordpad, Paint, and several of the
Windows Live Essentials applications.
There's more to the screenshots than the Ribbon UI, however. Our
friend
Long Zheng has noted two interesting elements in
the images: Web sharing and sync (image after the break). That
would likely mean users will be able to quickly upload files to
SkyDrive and synchronize using Live Mesh right from Explorer in
Windows 8. That's not a total surprise considering many of the
earliest leaked images of Windows 8 showed
Windows Live integration on the desktop.
