You
are looking for Xmas present ideas it isn't so difficult to do.
Today would be hard to imagine Christmas without presents. It's a
time we share gifts with family, colleagues, work mates and
friends. But why do we actually give presents at Christmas? In
fact it is a very old tradition to give presents in that time. In
some way it bacame a very modern custom.
The practise of giving presents in
Christioan religion is related to a story about three kings from
the East, who came to bow to little Jesus Christ. They brought the
gifts with them, and those were gold, frankincense and myrrh. So
the tradition of giving presents was celebrated on Feast op
Epiphany on January the 6th. After time it was related more to
Christmas, so present giving time is extended from December the
25th to January the 6th.
The custom of giving gifts wasn't really
popular during Middle Ages. It became more and more well-known in
the modern era. Mostly due to fact that Christian Church didn't
celebrate Christmas that much as it's being done nowadays. The
American settlers precticed giving gifts at Chrismas. This custom
was very popular in New Amsterdam, the Dutch colony now well known
as New York. They "invented" St. Nicholas in the appearance as it
is known nowadays. And calld him Santa Claus.
Today, we all give gifts at Christmas
for our own reasons. For some, it is a way to celebrate the
Christian holy day. For others, it is a special time to let family
and friends know that you care by giving gifts.

The
evergreen fir tree has been used to celebrate winter pagan
festivals. In Germany, the first Christmas Trees were decorated
with edible things, such as gingerbread and gold covered apples.
The first Christmas Trees came to Britain sometime in the 1830s.
In Victorian times, the tree would have been decorated with
candles to represent stars. Because of the danger of fire, in
1895 Ralph Morris, an American telephonist, invented the first
electric Christmas lights, similar to the ones we use
today.
Many towns and villages
have their own Christmas Trees. One of the most famous is the tree
in Trafalgar Square in London, England, which is given to the U.K.
by Norway every year as a 'thank you' present for the help the UK
gave Norway in World War II. The White House in the U.S.A. has had
a big tree on the front lawn since the 1920s.

St.
Nicholas was a Bishop who lived in the fourth century AD in a
place called Myra in Asia Minor now we would say Turkey. He was a
very generous man. He was also a very kind man and had a
reputation for helping the poor and giving secret gifts to people
who needed it. The story of St. Nicholas was passed from
generation to generation.
Unfortunately it became unpopular in
16th century. But someone had to deliver presents to children at
Christmas, so in the U.K., he became 'Father Christmas', a
character from old children's stories; in Germany, the 'Christ
Kind'; in France, he was then known as 'Père Nöel'. In the early
U.S.A. his name was 'Kris Kringle'. Later, Dutch settlers in the
USA took the old stories of St. Nicholas with them and Kris
Kringle became 'Sinterklass' and that's why now we say 'Santa
Claus'!

It was suppossed to have mystical power that brought good luck and hapiness to the house.
It was also used as a sign of love and friendship in Norse
mythology and that's where the custom of kissing under Mistletoe comes from.

There was a custom in Britain that a berry was picked from the sprig

Christmas
Carols at first were not Christmas. They were pagan songs, sung at the
Winter Solstice celebrations as people danced round stone
circles. Early Christians took pagan songs sang during solstice
celebrations for Christmas and gave people Christian songs to
sing instead of pagan ones.
Roman
Bishop said that a song called 'Angel's Hymn' should be sung at a
Christmas service in Rome. Other early Christmas Hymn was
written, in 760AD, by Comas of Jerusalem for the Greek Orthodox
Church. After that time many composers started to write carols
but in Latin.
But Latin
wasn't understood by simple people that's why they started to
sing their own songs in their native languages. Now we have a
variety of Christmas Carols in many languages and many countries.
Some of them are more famous like Silent Night and some are not,
like local carols well known only in some European
regions.

There are many
reasons why candles are associated with Christmas, although what
was the first time they became connected!
One of the earliest
records of candles that were used at Christmas is from the middle
ages. There was a large candle used to represent the star of
Bethlehem. Candles are also used during Hanukkah, the Jewish
Festival of light which is also celebrated during the winter
time.
Probably the most famous
use of candles at Christmas are Carols by Candlelight Services.
These are services when the church is only lit by candles.
