200mW Red Laser Burns Matches, Pop Balloons, Cut Electrical Tapes!

LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. I've always been a great fan of awesome technology and power. It never take much time for this laser to impress me in its power/price ratio. Bought this item for almost half a year now. This is Deal Extreme high power (200mW) Red Laser!

Things You Should Know:

-   What does 200mW means in Laser?

mW is the measurement of miliwatts, which refers to the power level of the laser beam. Higher value corresponds to brighter laser.

-   Laser wavelength?

Light or photon particles do not travel in a straight line, to be exact, in wave format. Wavelength, measured in nanometers (nm) is the distance between each wave. This affects the color of the light. 400 - 700nm display a color range of violet, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Typically, lower wavelength laser product produces brighter beam with constant power output level.

-   Hazardous?

Red laser are a lot less hazardous compared with green ones. This is due to the radiation projected from these lasers. Red laser does not project infrared radiation, while green one does. These radiation are invisible, and does not cause pain to eyes, since they are not visible, but they can make you blind!

-   Laser Product Classes?

Here is a table of all classes, it's hazard and product example:

Description

This product comes with a short cotton lanyard, and an adjustable focus lens. The focus lens is used to adjust the focus point of the laser, whereby amplifying the power output to burn matches, pop balloons, etc. It is attached to the laser using screw thread. The tolerance in the screw joint is quite high, causes it to become a bit lose when attached. The spring itself doesn't make the condition any better, but I changed the spring into a harder one that fixed the problem.

The laser diode is sealed in the laser compartment, to prevent any unwanted modification, such as removing the safety chip which can overpower it into a more dangerous laser or simply destroy it.

There is a clicky switch on the back end of the laser, also screw lock. Press once to turn on and again to turn it off. In my opinion, this isn't the best place to place a switch on handheld laser. It is not convenient enough to hold it by one hand, whereby you have to keep changing your holding posture to turn it on and back to holding it again. Normal laser pointers would have its button attached on the side of the laser, which you can hold down your thumb to turn it on. On the upside, this configuration allows you to leave it on without holding it, which you can hold it with a tripod holder. Something like this.

The middle compartment of the laser is made of coated metal. They seem to be sturdy and won't get deform easily on hard impact. It uses two CR2 batteries which are sold separately.

Want to see the laser in action? Here is a video made by one of the buyers. He managed to pop balloons (he painted the balloon with marker pens because black absorbed laser heat more than transparent body), light matches, and many more. This shows how powerful the laser is!

Some reader at this point must have wonder, what possible use I could get it out of this? Its a boy's thing, we are easily fascinated by powers and technology. Basically this toy is mainly used to impress other people, create a prank by popping parade party balloons, use it to light cigarettes if forgot to bring lighter, and write a blog review about it (just kidding!). These are just toys, not for small children though, because they can be quite dangerous. Never point it directly into the eye, and never stare at the focused beam for a long period of time, this may cause dizziness.

Before buying this items, please be acknowledged that lasers above 1mW are illegal to purchase or shipped in Australia and above 5mW for USA and Netherlands. For those unlisted, please be sure to check with local authority.

Lastly, price comparison. Some famous branded laser products such as WickedLaser.com and DragonLasers.com, sells laser at same output and wavelength, price ranges from USD 99.90 to 319.00! The one from DealExtreme.com? USD 27.09! The price was USD 27.40 when I first bought it. This is hard to get price in the world, and according to many users, they proved to produce rated output.

So go and have a look, as well as read other user's reviews!

Turn down

From what I had seen so far, some of the old series episodes (dated from year 2005) lack of reliable source link, you may not be able to watch some of the very old episodes. Water Sport Lover's Must Have! Trendz 20-Liter Dry Bag Review.

Dry bag is basically a bag that keeps your gadgets and electronic equipment safely from getting wet. They are good company if you are worrying of taking your electronic equipment along with you, digital camera especially, while going for white water rafting, boat trip, fishing trip, kayak, etc. However, all dry bags aren't cheap, and so far I haven't seen any cheap manufacturer in the market. A typical 20-Liter dry bag price can vary from 60 to 120 Ringgit (19 to 38 USD), depends on the brand.

I've recently won a bid for this particular item, Trendz 20-Litre Dry Bag. Other sizes available in the market ranges from a small 1-Liter pouch (For small digital camera or handphones) to a 30-Liter duffel bag, travelling purposes.

The picture on right roughly shows how it looks like and it's size. The bag comes with a detachable adjustable sling where it can be attached to the D ring located on top and bottom of the dry bag. Or you can customize yourself using a Carabiner clip to attach it on your luggage, etc. Theres four D ring on top of the bag (two on the buckle clip and another two on the rubber padded strap handle) and only one at the bottom. There is a buckle clip on
top of the bag which is used to seal the bag. I'll go more detail into that later.

The joints are all combination of sew and glue. There is no part whereby the two separate layers looks peeled or improper finishing, and they don't look like tearing off anytime soon, everything looks very sturdy. The waterproof material (yellow) is made of deformable thick canvas, that feels like it is going to last for years. I'm not sure if it will get deteriorate after long exposure to sunlight though. By the way, by means of thick that I had described here, it is about the thickness of 10 sheet of papers stacked together.

Other than using the sling to carry the bag, it also has a rubber padded strap located on top of the bag for one hand carry. The quality made is superb and it feels comfortable. The strap is nicely, cross sewed twice on each side of the black rubber like material underneath, and glued on the yellow canvas. The D rings provided here allows you to secure it onto a boat, to another bag, or just hang another gadgets onto it. Feels like it can handle a lot of weight without a problem.

Now, comes to the part where I'll tell you how this bag seals for waterproof at its opening.

Just in case if you can't read the words, it says:
1) Flip flap over stiffener 3 times.
2) Close buckle.

On one side of the opening, it has some flexible hard plastic bar, which they called stiffener. As the top of the bag is rolled down, air is trapped inside this bag, which creates pressure. This pressure force will tighten the canvas around the stiffener as it rolls down, which creates seal. Multiple folds will ensure the seal is done nice and tight. Picture below shows when its open and closed.

This dry bag is classified as Class-3 in Waterproof Store System Class, which defined as:

Class 3 – Waterproof so tight it floats or can handle quick submersions. The product could be permeated by water in any of the following applications: prolonged submersion, submersions greater than 3 feet in depth, high water pressure applications.

Although it is submersible, but don't go and take this bag to go for 15 feet dive, it is not meant to function in that condition. However, it can handle quick submersions, whereby it is suppose to float after short submerse. Another important point is never fully pack your items in this bag, leave some air space so that it can float on if it is accidentally dropped. You don't want to see this thing sink all the way to the bottom if it drops into river or sea.

So that is basically it! I can't wait to use mine in my future island trips, There are other brands available, such as HyperGear, AquaPac, NRS, ProPack and many more as well as different color to choose from. I chose yellow because it is quite visible from a distance, just in case if any emergency encountered.

If you want to know how I got mine, just contact me! I'm not selling it, but perhaps I can show you some of the local options as well as international.

So, which one do you have? Are you going to buy one? Tell me your experience using it!
Leave it in the comment section below. Thanks!

The following post is for Google Chrome users only.

I am sure most of you did not explore deep into your Google Chrome. Google Chrome extensions are some of the plugin that can greatly enhance your browsing experience! The extensions that I am going to go through below are some that i use regularly. Let's get started!

Face Book Photo Zoom
Dev: regisgaughan.com

Always a hassle to view facebook photos one per page, and need to return to album view all the pictures in thumbnails again so you can explore? Now you don't have to go through that with this chrome extension.

Just mouse over the
picture that you want to view on its original size! Some of the settings include the view fading time, opacity, delays and enable captions of the zoomed picture! This works anywhere! In photo album, profile, status and update page as long as it is in Facebook.

By the way, the picture shown here is one of my favorite singer from Singapore, Jeric Tan!

Speed Dial

Dev: josorek

Tired of letting chrome to set your favorite page automatically, and sometimes it end up with something that you don't like? and you have to visit that specific page often enough to get it listed in the initial page tabs? With this extension, you are able to replace the old default chrome tab with your own choice of tab you want.

Customizable link, picture that represent that tab, number of rows and columns makes this a great shortcut for those who want to access to site without trying to find that tiny icon on the pesky bookmark tab or type the address on the address bar. This extension opens up a list of your favorite website every time you hit new tab.

The only missing feature that i dislike about this plugin is, the recently closed tabs button which the default chrome has. One click to re-open all the tabs that had closed in previous use.

Chrome Bird
Dev: chromedbird.com

This has to be the next best thing out there. Your own twitter pop up in your browser!

You can compose and read your tweets here, embed picture through tinypic, and shorten your url all in this small extension!

Another plus, there will be instant notification where the bird turns red with a number on it, whenever you get new tweets from who you follow! This saves you the trouble to constantly visit the twitter page to seek for updates.

AdBlock
Dev: chromeadblock.com

Bored of pop up advertisements? This extension block advertisements for you from any site that you are visiting.

It comes with the option whereby you can exclude some sites to allow advertisement to be shown.

When ads is disabled from one site, it means that specific site won't be able to earn profits from serving advertisement to you. So consider a mutual benefit before you decide block ads from a certain site. It is only meant to block sites that serve excessive annoying advertisements!

Panic Button
Dev: greinr.com

Sometimes, you may not want others to know what are you browsing currently. It won't be a problem at your own home, but in public places, such as airport, cafes, work, etc. All the confidential information and privacy invasion can be prevented with this extension. Panic button hides all the tabs with just press of a button. This helps you to protect your privacy, confidentiality whenever you are leaving your computer, or when someone approach you while you are working on something.

You can set a password to protect it from anyone opening back your tab, as well as custom panic hotkey so you can hide your tab faster.

All of these extension icons will be displayed in your top right corner of your browser after installation and they are free! However, you may donate to these developers if you think that they had done a great job in enhancing your browsing experience.

You can access your chrome extension installed list and settings here, and many other popular chrome extension here. Explore other extensions for yourself and leave me in the comment section below and tell me which one suits you best!

Free Shipping Shopping Site at DealExtreme!

Good day to all of you readers!

I must admit, i am now officially an online shopping addict. The freedom of shop for every single item and browsing them quickly by flick and click of mouse buttons, without even getting tired like what we usually do in a shopping mall, or wasting petrol fuel to go some particular shop is just overwhelming.

For this post, I am going to introduce you one of the best shopping site available online.

Deal Extreme is a web based shop which situated at Hong Kong, a free port. Which means that they are able to send out goods out from their place without the need of paying taxes. What is even more attractive about this site is, they ship all your items through regular air mail or
registered air mail free of charge world wide!

Deal extreme offers about 20,000 items sorted by categories ranged from computers, apparels, DIY part and tools, and my favorite, hobbies and toys! The best things is, they put up about 80~90 new items almost every single day! Sounds like endless of updates eh?

They even provide item per page selection, as large as 100 items per page! So you don't have to keep clicking that annoying tiny numbers below the page to scroll to next one list.

Twenty thousand isn't a small number. To easy out users to find what they want, they have a simple search box. All the searches result with automatically sorted by categories so you know where to find it exactly. There is also advance search option which allows you to search a specific category and price range, however, this advance search button only reveals itself after a simple search. It's annoying, I would prefer if they put up a button for it on the navigation bar above.

They have great community in this website. Users that bought the items will post up their personal reviews, pictures and videos on that item. They get rewarded with DX points for that. You may post up questions in the Q&A section below each item and any admin or users that had bought the items will answer you promptly. Helpful answers and approved reviews are gets DX points. 10 DX points can be exchanged for 1 USD as a shopping coupon. A minimum of 100 DX points needed to redeem a coupon. You also can get DX points through shopping. Every 10 USD purchase will be rewarded with 1 DX points. Find out more about DX points here.

All the prices for products listed here in deal extreme can be considered as the lowest, and they keep updating it from time to time. If there are prices which is cheaper for the same product in any other online shop, you may report this to deal extreme. By reading the content they show below, you can see how well they keep their market competitive.

So far i had bought a few items off the shelf, and one pending because I had won 15 USD from a facebook game event. Here are some of the item I've bought. (I can say I'm addicted to the extend that I buy things I do not need!)

So go check out the site, they have good navigation bar, easy to browse items, good description, pictures of the item from different angles, and many more.

The only downside is = It uses PayPal for payment, and item arrive on average of two weeks time.

Check it out at DealExtreme.

Fenix E01 Mini Flashlight, no, Tiny!

I bought this item through online sales, as a gift for my dad. He likes small stuffs, and he use flashlights in his work to see hidden small tag number on large engines and equipments, so i thought it would be a great idea to buy him this as a gift!

Fenix is a reputable China company that design and manufacture high quality flashlights that tally with world standards. This particular model is their smallest product so far, the Fenix E01.

Its casing is made out from aircraft grade aluminum, weight only 14 grams (without the battery) and the Nichia white GS LED shoots out a tiny 10 lumens out from this small flashlight. Even better? It is waterproof!

Fenix E01 also comes with a spare o-ring and
a steel key-chain ring, which can be handy if the used o-ring wear out, and you can replace them right away.

The exact size of Fenix E01 is 7.1cm in length and 1.4cm in diameter. How small is that? Get yourself a ruler, and yes, it is that small, just like my skinny little finger.

This flash light is too small for a clicky switch, therefore, Fenix designed this flashlight to have a twist-open switch, which can be turned on by simply turning the front cap. Typically, a cheap flashlight with this type of switch mechanism tend to turn on accidentally by itself, because of bad manufacturing accuracy and tolerance. A little tap or press on the cap and you'll realize your flashlight battery depleted even before you know it. A whole different story for Fenix E01, its build quality is superb! My dad had used this over a year now, and so far, this flashlight is satisfyingly functioning well.

However, I find it funny that it doesn't have a protective glass cover, yet it still manage to meet the IPX-8 standard, which is a standard for waterproof product - able to submerged in 1 meter water for 30 minutes. Surprisingly versatile for outdoor use, whether you are going out for a river side camping, working on a wet environment, out in the dark when it is raining, Fenix E01 will not fail you.

The end cap is a three spoke flat surface, which enable it to stand like a candle (which you can turn on the flashlight and leave it stand vertically on a flat surface to illuminate a room with white ceiling), but i don't think 10 lumens for Fenix E01 is good enough to read a book if its used in this way, however, for emergency uses, it is okay just to have a small room dimly lit up.

In addition, one of the spoke has a hole in it, which you can put the included steel key-chain ring. Attach it to a lanyard, key, or hand phone  makes Fenix E01 a handy gift for everyone.

Another great feature of Fenix E01 is the regulated circuit located at the light cap. This circuit enable to provide12 hours sun mode, and 13 hours moon mode, which means constant brightness for 12 hours, and slowly dim to nothing for the next 13 hours. However, I find that the "moon-mode" doesn't really seems useful to me. But 12 hours for a single AAA battery is good enough for my dad to get his job done without worrying of replacing the battery in awhile.

The useful range for this 10 lumen beam is only two meter. Further than that, you will see a fade away purple beam resulted from the dispersed white beam. This flashlight is definitely for normal reading use only. If you are trying to get out from the forest using this flashlight, just forget about it.

Fenix E01 is manufactured in different color, mine is olive color.

Its fairly cheap, considering the quality and versatility. A great gift for your love one, and a useful thing to hang around your key-chain!

Fenix E01 Lens is one of my lens about this product, but in Squidoo community. Check it out if you are interested!

If you don't know what is Squidoo, check out this blog post.
