Contemporary style emphasizes large simple patters, splashes of bold color and natural materials. A great way to bring some contemporary design touches into your home is through the use of contemporary drapes. This is a cost-effective and stylish way to update the look of a room without the effort and expense of a full room make-over. The right fabric can make a huge change in the look and feel of your room. Because drapery is inexpensive and there is such a wide variety of colors and styles, you can change your drapes frequently to match your tastes from year to year.
In order to make the best use of contemporary drapes, you will want to make sure it includes a color tone that compliments the other colors in the room. For example, the perfect curtain for a room with lots of dark heavy wood might include some brown tones as well as a brighter blue or green tone. If you are opting for solid color curtains, the color can be one that contrasts with the main room color, but you should probably add sheers in a complimentary color to keep the contrasting color from overwhelming.
Contemporary style also gives you much more flexibility and fun when it comes to hanging the drapes. A traditional curtain rod can be replaced with one made of wood, iron or metals in natural finishes which highlight the natural beauty of the material. Instead of the rod sliding through an opening in the curtain, you can use grommet rings or strips of fabric to secure the curtain to the rod. This makes the rod more visible and is a nice way to show off an attractive curtain rod. You could even bypass the rod altogether and find new, more creative ways to hang your contemporary drapes, such as using hooks screwed into the wall. Tiebacks for the drapes can be made from fun and unusual materials, such as a sheer bit of fabric in a contrasting color.
If there was only one choice of drapes, then it has to be faux silk. One of best ways to spend your money is to get faux silk drapes. In an instant, your home will appear luxurious and elegant. Faux silk drapes are made from synthetic fibers that mimic the real silk. Even though it is not real silk, faux silk curtains are just as elegant, classy and modern. No matter where you place your faux silk drapes, you will create a superb window accent with elegance, and all this without spending a fortune. Faux silk drapes will make you want to come home and admire your success for many years.
Faux silk drapes are in fashion today not only in homes but in hotels, holiday resorts and most high-end condominiums. Faux silk drapes come in many styles, patterns, sizes and colors. Today, one can find almost any color of style to suit your indoor décor. To augment the style, you can even match the faux silk curtains with other accessories like finials, rods and curtain tiebacks.
Faux silk come in various styles ranging from country style, modern, nouveau or suburban. The one thing about faux silk drapes is that the curtain must fit the size of the window; otherwise, the end result will be poor. Faux silk is easy to handle and look after. These drapes can be used anywhere and will immediately make your home look lavish. There are faux silk drapes to suit every budget, flavor and décor. If you are considering drapes, try faux silk- you will not be disappointed.

Question by kp1080: What color drapes would look
good on chocolate brown(MeltedChocolate-Behr) and light
brown(ToastedWheat) walls?
This is for the family room and I have an expresso colored
sectional and glossy back and silver tables with a glass top. I
would like to add Blue(aquamarine) colors into the room – drapes,
accessories, lights, rug. My husband thinks we should also add
some Orange elements into the room, like Orange paper lights (not
sure what they are called exactly). Suggestions? Also, what is a
good place to get all these at a reasonable price?
And Oh…the style is modern/contemprary
Best answer:
Answer by RachelI would go eith either the blue or the
orange, but not both together. I think that the blue would help
to lighten up the brown walls and espresso sectional better
though.
I always like getting curtains from JCPenney – great prices and
you can return them right to the store if you don’t like them.
The rods are cheaper at Target though. I put a link below to some
modern looking curtains; I really like the grommet top. Have fun
decorating!

Whether you’re refurbishing your home or finalizing the interior décor of a new home, you will need to pay special attention to the window treatments. Luckily for modern home owners, contemporary window treatments have something for every taste and style. Whether you want traditional or modernistic, it’s all there. You simply need to choose wisely.
So, what are the latest and the most popular in contemporary window treatments?
At one time, blinds and shutters were very much in vogue. In fact, they ruled the roost, so to speak. The reasons are simple. They looked very stylish, were easy to operate and clean and were quite affordable. If you are attracted by the simple straight lines of window blinds, you can choose from different materials and colors. Shades made from natural materials like bamboo and jute impart a rustic country look while metallic blinds give the room a sophisticated feel. Woven wood shades are also in demand as they look excellent in certain settings.
There are different shades to choose from, namely, roman shades, roller shades, solar shades, cellular and pleated shades. Of these, roman shades are catching on in a big way in contemporary homes.
Window shutters are also an option that you can select from if you are looking for something contemporary in window treatments. Shutters have a control mechanism that allows you to regulate the amount of light to be let into the room.
In spite of these new arrivals, curtains and drapes still figure as the most sought contemporary window treatments. One reason for this could be the availability of unlimited combinations of color, design, prints and fabric. You simply cannot run out of choices when you are selecting curtains.
Among curtains, sheers enjoy a superior place and position. These offer a delightful treat to the eye as they can allow sufficient light while offering a hazy view of the outside. Heavy fabric is commonly used in rooms where plenty of light is not a requirement. By combining sheer curtains with a heavy fabric, you can control the amount of light quite efficiently and beautifully. However, this design is slightly out of vogue these days.
Large prints are back in fashion this season, with geometrical designs and stark colors taking center stage. On the other hand, many modern homes make use of sleek lines and muted colors to get the simplistic look.
Contemporary window treatments allow a lot of flexibility when it comes to accessories. Delightful grommets, valances, shade pulls, cornices and curtain rods can become fitting embellishments for the fabric and the décor of the room.
For the décor of the room to ‘click’, window treatments must be in keeping with the rest of the room. Some people decorate the room sparingly so that they can easily accommodate a striking window treatment. Others may choose to opt for simple window treatments so that the room does not look too busy. Either way, contemporary window treatments offer you enough variety.

Question by Aster: Tall skinny windows and lots of
them-Any ideas for window coverings?
I’m remodeling a 30X22 foot room. It’s a kitchen and living room
all in one, but not my main living room and no TV.
The challenge with this room is the windows. There are 7 windows plus french doors. 4 of these windows are 6 feet tall and only 2 feet wide. They all currently have 2″ wood slat blinds. I think I want to dress up the windows, but don’t know what to do with the skinny windows. I’m not crazy about valances in general. My style is casual contemporary leaning toward traditional, but the kitchen is going to be ultra-modern with a 9X7 foot island.
What can a person do with this many windows PLUS having these narrow windows?
Best answer:
Answer by lilymy mom had some off size windows in her house and the problem she faced was that any kind of covering blocked most of the light. she had been learning stained glass art for a while and decided to make some fittings for her windows. they were beautiful and with all the colors she used the light coming in became part of the theme of the room.
wish you well,
lily

Question by Vt4pedro: where can I buy retro modern drapes not too expensive not ikea thanks?
Best answer:
Answer by Miss KittyFor retro stuff, you definitely can’t beat checking out the local thrift store – they usually do carry things such as curtains/bed linens/kitchen & bath towels.
Or you could always go to your local fabric store, buy some fabric and make them yourself – you usually don’t need to do much sewing, and sometimes not any at all if you just drape the fabric over the rod.
Best of luck!
