Every winter wardrobe should have a pair of boots that can be worn with just about everything and go from day to night faster than you can say “cocktail hour”. These Fitzwell Oregon Wide Calf Boots are a stellar choice when it comes to finding yourself the best boots for large calves.
Here’s why we love them:
These boots are super comfortable and feel true to size. They have plenty of room for the ample calf. You’ll want to get them in both suede and calf since you’re sure to love them.
I’m a huge fan of Marie Claire staff writer Nicolette Mason. She makes fashion accessible for bigger women everywhere. And while those of us with large calves aren’t always plus-size, we can certainly draw from her expertise. In her article entitled “Chic Shoes for Plus-Size Women” we get the inside scoop for finding the best boots for large calves. Mason writes:
Made-to-Measure Boots: Custom fits aren’t just for the one percent anymore! Find your calf size by following the instructions at duoboots.com, a U.K.-based shoe line that specializes in cool boots that fit just right no matter your measurements. Choose from over-the-knee, shearling-lined flat boots to sassy mid-calf heels. Best of all: free shipping!
This site is exciting for a lot of reasons. It has a fitting guide tool bar that allows you to input the exact circumference of your calves and the color you’re looking for. Just be warned: It is in centimeters.
For an option that’s closer to home and also offers free shipping, I prefer Zappos.com. They also offer a large selection of boots for large calves. The search tool is not as easy to navigate as the UK-based company but they do have some inexpensive options that may appeal to the gal on a budget (like me). They also have product reviews from customers. Here are some of their best boots for large calves (according to customer ratings):
Minnetonka 14” Sheepskin Pug Boot — Made of

Ever since they arrived on the scene, Ugg has been crushing it by making stylish, comfortable, eye-catching footwear. Unfortunately, not every Ugg boot is fitted for larger calves but we will not be stopped. Here is a look at some of the best Ugg boots for big calves this season.
Ugg Lynnea
In typical Ugg fashion, the Ugg Lynnea can be worn both up or down. They come in both leather and suede lined with sheepskin. These boots make our best Ugg boots for big calves list because of the peek-a-boo split back which is both cute and functional and for the elasticity of the leather. They also receive rave reviews consistently on zappos.com.
Ugg Classic Cardy Tall
Normally, I am weary of tall boots because they tend to be too narrow in the shaft for large calves (unless they are made specifically for big calves) but I am confident that these boots will do the trick. For the average gal these boots need to be sized down and the major concern is that they won’t stay up on the calf. It’s like they were made for big calves!!! They are super warm and comfortable and come in tons of super cute colors. They have all the warmth you’d expect from an Ugg boot with just the right amount of give for your calves.
Ugg Ultra Short
Short boots are an obvious choice when it comes to boots for large calves but sometimes even the short boots can be a problem. The Ugg Ultra Short is the answer to this problem. They are your classic Ugg perfected. This is the ideal every day Ugg boot. Wear them under your favorite jeans without any calf interference whatsoever.
UGG Bailey Button
Two words: Elastic Closure. Originally added for convenience in order to get those boots on and off with ease, the elastic closure is soon to be your calves’ best friend. The sea foam insole covered in sheepskin makes these ultra comfortable boot a must-have this winter.
I for one am thrilled that riding boots are the trend right now. They are comfortable and look great almost year round. A great pair of riding boots for large calves is a going to go a long way this season and almost certainly carry into the next.
Let’s face it: It is getting cold outside and that means its time to find your winter style. An interesting coat with belt detailing will look fun and layer beautifully. The combinations of camisoles and blouses you’ll layer underneath it are as limitless as your imagination. Cooler weather calls for corduroy pants like the ones pictured above to keep you warm and keep your ensemble interesting. Add to it all a catch-all hobo bag, eye-catching jewelry and great pair of riding boots for large calves and you’ll be ready to conquer whatever winter throws at you.
If you are looking for a reliable boot with a solid reputation then I highly recommend the Fitzwell Mentor Wide Calf Riding Boots. They are stylish and extremely comfortable for wide calves. They are the kind of boots you’ll want to get in more than one color.
We’ve all picked up a few pointers when it comes to getting dressed. Practically every plus-sized woman knows just how flattering vertical stripes can be or the miracle of a good girdle however, we may not know what else to do besides purchase a whole lot of black. In an article by Good Housekeeping entitled “The Rules of Plus-Size Style” by Kim Johnson Gross we find out what kind of boots for large calves are flattering for our robust shapes. When it comes to boots for large calves Gross says:
If you’re an hourglass, look for Ankle boots (to extend the line of the leg).
Try these granite suede boots with platform from Via Spiga. The extra height of the shoe will add visual length to your legs for a look that is flattering and fashionable.

Women with pear shapes are advised to wear mules, while women with rectangle shapes should stick to pointed toe pumps. If you want a sexy pair of boots to lengthen and slim those legs then try the Fitzwell Medalion. The pointed toe will continue to add length while providing more warmth then a pump or mule.

Ugg Classic Short boots for large calves
I’m always looking around on the web to find the most interesting articles on fashion and boots for large calves. I stumbled across the interview of Polly Allen Mellen. In case y0u have been living under a rock and don’t know her, she has been a fashion editor and stylist for over 60 years at Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, and the former creative director of Allure. In an article entitled “How to Wear Bold Colors” Mellen says:
• Get it right. I think saturated colors look bold and very modern, but the color you choose has to be perfect. If you want a red, don’t settle for orange or eggplant. Search out the ideal crimson. Every once in a while, I feel the need for a little prettiness, and I’ll reach for a softer color or even a pastel. But whatever it is—a dress or skirt or a suit—it has to be a glamorous classic, nothing too saccharine or girlish.
• No frills. With bright pieces, everything should fit beautifully, because color doesn’t hide flaws. I’m a stickler for details: The armholes must be high the way I like them, and the neckline must be just right. I avoid ruffles too—extra details like that are unnecessary and overwhelming when you have on a sumptuous color.
• Neutral territory. A saturated hue looks best when it pops next to a neutral. Black is a constant, of course, but in summer I tend to wear more navy, which works beautifully with pink. Khaki looks great with orange and lettuce green. In warm weather, I think white works as a neutral too. I’d wear well-cut white pants with a simple T-shirt in a deep sapphire blue or a fire-engine red. I also think color is a wonderful way to punctuate a monochromatic outfit. If I am wearing black or navy head-to-toe, I’d never carry a plain black bag—it’s much too somber. I have a wonderful red handbag or a snakeskin bag in bright green that I’d use instead.
• Make sure you’re feeling it. Wearing a bright color is a responsibility. People will naturally look at you, and you have to hold their gaze. Once, during the collections in Paris, I wore a red jacket to the morning shows. When we had a break, I went back to my hotel and changed into a navy one. That red jacket was just wearing me out; I wasn’t up to it. You can’t wear a bright color on a bad hair day or a day when you didn’t have time to put on your makeup. You have to look your best to pull it off.
Bold Colors and Boots for Large Calves
If you’re wearing an bright hue from head-to-toe consider pairing it with a pair of classic black boots like the Fitzwell Kyoti Plain wide calf boots shown here. Too much color can be overwhelming and way too matchy-matchy. If you want to wear bold hues on your feet then try these UGG Classic Short in pansy. It will pop when worn over black tights.

Hawaii Fashion this Fall
Aside from the absolutely beautiful beaches that Hawaii has to boast about, we have some of the finest weather there is. We hardly need to think about cold weather, however, that does not stop us from following the Fall fashions including Fall’s best boots for large calves.
According to Royal Hawaiian Center R Magazine (Summer/Fall 2011) the Season is looking rich in deep tones and feminine silhouettes. In a segment entitled Fabulous for Fall, we find sexy lace up booties paired with sophisticated dress in a muted palette and fine fabric. Playsuits and onesies continue to trend well into Fall in thin fabrics covered in animal prints, layered playfully over interesting geometric shapes. Wedge heels and platforms (like the 4 inch ones below) are also making the fashion scene in desert boots.

These beautiful booties in Taupe are an outstanding choice for the Fall and will transition well into the Winter. We love it because the suede is feminine and interesting and the laces are functional as well as inviting. The taupe color is warm and will goes well with the onesies, jumpsuits and dresses this Season. These ankle boots are a terrific choice when it comes to boots for large calves as they run slightly big and are extremely comfortable.
