Understanding The Upper Cervical Autonomic Nervous System
Purpose
Understanding The Autonomic Nervous System
To understand how upper cervical care functions, one needs to first
get an idea of how the brain and spinal cord functions. The human
brain talks to the rest of the body through a enormous network of
nerves (kind of like an electric circuit). Connecting different
organs and systems of the human body (kind of like telephone wires
connecting telephones). This never ending communication is core for
the proper operation and health of every cell, organ, and system in
the human body.
The spinal cord sends information back and forth between the brain
and the body and is protected by the spinal column. When injuries
occur to spinal segments, the spinal vertebrae may misalign and
irritate [surrounding|adjacent} nerves, resulting in a "short" of
the irritated nerves.
Because the upper cervical spine is the most mobile area of the any
part of the spine, it is exceptionally vulnerable to injury, making
it the most likely area for spinal issues to occur.
Causes of misalignment's to the upper cervical spine include:
* Minor Knocks On The Head
* Concussions
* Spinal Injuries
* Car Accidents / Whiplash
* Falls, such as on slippery sidewalks, etc..
* Bad Posture / Stress
* Birth Trauma / Forceps or Stressful Births
* Ski / Bike Accidents
* Head Injuries
* Bumps, whiplashes, and/or blows to the head during sports:
snowboarding, biking, walking, martial arts, roller hockey, horse
riding, etc...
Vertebrae
The upper two bones in the neck have been isolated as the most
important in the spinal column because these vertebrae are found at
the critical connection between the brain(control center) and the
spinal cord.

Since the nervous system command and directs all activities in our
bodies, including our immune functions, any mis-alignments
triggering irritation to the nerves at this critical level in the
upper cervical spine may result in |poor function|dysfunction} of
the bodily organs serviced by the damaged nerves, thus creating
many health issues. Since all nerve signals needs to travel through
the upper cervical region in order to reach the lower parts of the
body. Most all functions of the body are affected by the spine at
this level. Upper cervical care tries to eliminate neurological
irritation; as without irritation, our nervous systems can
effectively manage your bodies' functions and maintain us in good
health.
