Using dome cameras to capture images of people coming around or into your home is a part of many people’s security systems. Use the tips below when considering installing dome cameras as part of your home security strategy.
Dome cameras are available for prices from about one hundred dollars to prices ranging over one thousand dollars. As in the purchase of any camera, the price differences will depend on brand of your dome camera, the clarity of the photos it takes as well as additional features it has, such as the ability to zoom in and out, as well as the camera’s effectiveness in low-light conditions. In addition to the camera’s features, whether the camera is part of a surveillance system homeowner’s install, such as multiple camera setup that is accessible via computer for live viewing of home or monitored by a professional service, will determine costs as well as ongoing fees associated with monitoring.
When you are considering purchasing a dome camera consider what location you are trying to photograph. Whether a location is indoors or outdoors or whether you are setting up a system of cameras that view multiple areas in and around your home you will want to know the range of the camera’s viewing area as well as the quality of the picture obtained.
Consider how you want to view the footage from your camera. Cameras that can be linked to your PC for live images as well as those that are connected to a DVR are two options for dome-camera purchasers in how they view their photographic footage.
Infrared capabilities on dome cameras allow the camera to take photos in low to no-light conditions. These photos will playback in a black and white image. Even cameras that are not extremely expensive often include an auto-adjustment to accommodate light conditions in what is being photographed.
Identify the main purpose for which you are using your dome cameras. Unlike spy cameras, the visibility of your camera will hopefully operate as a deterrent to would-be wrongdoers in and around your property. For about $15 there are fake dome cameras sold specifically for display to deter nefarious activity.
Before seeking to record audio along with photographs, note that the lack of audio on cameras is deliberate because recording audio has much more legal protection than photographing images. Audio recording laws differ by state.
Do not get caught up in photographing everything. It’s easy to get caught up in what you can see using your dome camera. From wasting time at work viewing your home all day to invading another person’s privacy, there is such a thing as overkill and illegal conduct using a camera.
Notify people who come into your home that you have dome cameras. It is unlikely you will catch everything on video that goes on in or around your home without invading someone’s privacy, such as when they use the bathrooms in your home. Some people even get employees and others to sign a release that they’ve been notified that there are cameras in a person’s home.
Dome cameras can help provide homeowners with peace of mind by providing video surveillance of their homes. Use the tips above before buying and installing dome cameras for your home.

Home Surveillance Cameras - Watching over your home and giving you peace of mind
Recently I wanted to make changes to my home surveillance system so that I can see the surveillance footage live from both the living room television and the bedroom television. After some searching I found that all I needed to do was to setup an Video Transmitter Receiver System to send the signal to the bedroom computer wireless.
I used the Nyrius 5.8GHz 6 Ch Wireless Audio Video Sender Transmitter Receiver System IR Remote Extender to transmit and receive the video feed. Nyrius 5.8GHz can broadcast about 400ft in the open space of the house. If you try to transmit the signal from outside or through thick walls it only gets about 300ft. I hooked the transmitter to the DVR RCA jacks in the living room and connected the receiver to the RCA jacks on the TV in the bedroom. I am thinking about buying additional receivers to broadcast the surveillance video feed to every TV in the house.

With any networked device of this kind, setup is much faster and easier if you have a friend or know someone with network experience to assist. If you don’t have anyone to help, you’re still in luck! You can set up the Alarm Sensor Trigger to only record when the alarm sensor has been triggered. If non of the automatic settings meet your needs you can use the manual record setting.
What others are saying about Digital Peripheral Solutions Q-See QS408-811-5 8 Channel H.264 DVR with 8 Indoor/Outdoor Cameras and 500GB Hard Drive
Q-see brings the $12,000 DVR that the casinos use to catch card cheats down to the price a homeowner can afford. I recommend any home first install a MONITORED alarm system and make it BLATANT that one is in place (big bell box outside in a conspicuous place) – this will rid yourself of 90% of the crime because criminals know where to look for these and when they find them, they walk on to your neighbor’s house to rob instead. After an alarm comes video evidence of WHO did WHAT and WHEN with PROOF. Q-see gives you this. -HMMWV
As the very diligent reviewer above said, this is not a $3k security system, but it is more than plenty for any small to medium sized area. You’re not getting HD quality bank security footage with this thing, but man does it beat getting up to go see who’s at the front door…or anywhere else around the house for that matter. All I do is flip to channel 3 on any of my TV’s or hit the Meye app on my phone (its almost instant!). -B. Forooghi
