How do you tryout for an NFL Practice Team and when would those tryouts be held? Links to register appreciated?
My husband played college football at GSU. He didn't go to Pro Timing Day immediately afterwards as he'd planned but wants to get back in the game now and is wondering how to do that. He's interested in the NFL of course but a practice team would make him happy as well. Any directions to registration forms, trout schedules, and information on how to go about this would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!
First off who the heck is GSU? Georgia Southern, Grambling or some other school? 1. You have to get invited to a teams camp then fight your way through the various cuts and right before the 53 man active roster is set teams select who they want to keep around and who they think they can let go and pick up later. If you make it to the final cut on a NFL team then there is a good shot you can make a squad. 2. He needs to get in contact with agents and scouts- This will get his name out there. Lets face it the NFL knows 99.99% of everyone good enough physically/mentally to play in the league so if your hubby wasn't invited to the combine or asked to come to a camp on as an undrafted free agent then odds are at the time he didn't cut the mustard. Nothing wrong with that, most of us faced that reality at some point, but one year out it will be even tougher because now he's off the radar. 3. He might want to try some semi-pro leagues until he gets a call from the NFL. It doesn't pay much but its pro ball 4. I would really suggest getting into coaching at this point. Tell him to go get a G.A. position while he completes his masters and with a little luck + hard work in 10 yrs. he could be a coordinator and earn an easy six figures. Which isn't bad for 32/33 years old. Then if successful in that capacity 5 years later he could get a head coaching job which puts him on track for the big bucks.
