(More customer reviews)This little devil
has saved my back many times. It is small enough to hang on a hook
on the wall. I had gotten it second hand from relatives that were
moving to Florida at least 8 years ago. I use it to clear my
driveway at home, and then throw it in the back seat of my car to
take it to do the sidewalk at my business. Usually, I use it one
hand as if using a vacuum cleaner. When the snow is deep...as being
plowed in at the end of my driveway, it is light enough to hold
like a shovel and scoop out layers from the top down.So it has
gotten some heavy use over the years.Last year during one storm I
used it to clear a 12'x80' sidewalk with a 2' packed drift made by
the snow plow so I could have trucks deliver to my store. I might
add that this is a task that a sane person would not have attempted
with this, but if I let it freeze up I would have been in
trouble.
While this is a big leap over using a regular shovel as far as time
and effort it does have it short comings. My two gripes about it are
that the extension plug would often be pulled out of it.I solved
that by making a knot as if I was first tying a shoelace and then
plugging them together.
The second and the reason that I gave it 3 stars is that it directs
the snow directly in front. Because of this I start in the middle
of the driveway and shoot it to one side and then do the same on
the other. I do the same when doing a sidewalk. This is a lot more
work then using a blower that directs the snow to the side, and
alot messier.Don't expect a clean manicured edge.
I have a corner house and the 180 feet of sidewalk were a real
pain. Because if this I recently bought the Toro 38025 1800 Power
Curve Snow Thrower that has a wider path and directs the snow. It
is still light enough to be thrown in the car, and I won't have to
deal with gasoline and starting. I would expect that it will take
me half the time and effort over this model.
While $200 more, it is worth it. Amazon also has the YardMachines
31A-040-800 Snow Fox for around $160 that has a 12' path and
directs the snow removal.

(More customer reviews)buying on the
internet is always scary. So far, I've relyied on other peoples
review on Amazon. This time, I feel like I must to help a few people
out.
First, my co-workers were skeptical about an electric mower, but
I've had the experience in the past.
Here are some of the benefits:
- you can look under your mower by flipping it over and not worry
about gaz or oil leaks.
- grass is cut from end to end of a yard easier with the flip
handle than those that don't. (that should include all gaz mowers)
Instead of closing in on the middle of your lawn, you start on one
end and finish at the other end.(I like it)
- this mower doesn't retain anything underneath. I didn't know that
some mowers would do that. From my previous experiences, you had to
clean up the mower every couple of use.
- height adjustment is super simple.
- electronic brake. If you release the power (bar!), the blade stops
in a micro second. This is great for safety.
- no smells of any sort (except first few minutes being a new
electrical product)
I wouldn't trade it, and my yard is not small.

of line from the spool on my yardstick(it was jammed) so I ordered
this replacement. As it turns out the original spool was nearly full
but I didn't find that out until I took it off to install the
replacement spool. At this time when the unit was one year old, I
decided to see if there was an extra batteries available because
the unit seemed to need more frequent recharging.I found out that
this unit is not available anymore including the batteries. As it
turns out I have three spools: the original, the spare one that I
bought at the original sale and now the third which was supposed to
be my spare. As I think about it now, I don't think I should worry
about replacement spools for a unit that will have a limited

(More customer reviews)Ive been on a
battery/electric operated yard tool craze. When my gas mower died a
few weeks ago I started looking into electric mowers as a
compliment to my battery operated BD, weedeater, blower, hedge
clippers. I was hesitant as an electric mower for a 12,000 lot is a
big step, giving up on ease of movement and power and selfpropelled
feature or so i thought.
Well i ordered off of Amazon and it came within 72 hours, free
shipping WOW and the price was terrific compared to local stores
and no tax...
Anyway, i put it together and it was ready to use within 10
minutes, really!!!
You do need an electrical cord to operate and i had 100' cord which
is perfect for my yard. My yard has not been mowed in several weeks
as my gas mower died and i did not want to spend the money for
reserection of a 4 year old mower plus gas prices are crazy right
now. I did plan my route since i would have a cord i was pulling.
Turned it on and it was amazing on how much less noise it was
compared to my gas mower. My wife came out and asked when i was
going to start but had been mowing for 15 minutes, lol.
I started in the mulching mode at first and not paying attention
had it on the lowest setting....it was going fine but when i hit
thicker deeper grass it did bogg down. I inserted the discharge
shute and even on the lowest setting in taller grass it mowed fine.
Once i realized i had it on the lowest setting and moved it up in
height comparable to my gas mower the electric mower never bogged
down one time even when mulching!!!The cord is not bad at all
although i did have to get used to it as i wrapped it around the
tree once and just laughed at myself. I thought i would miss the
self propelled feature, however, this mower is sooo light its like
pushing a vacum cleaner so i was managing the cord with my left,
pushing with my right and no problems, mowed like a champ, no
uneven cuts. My neighbors came out and were admiring the mower all
commented on how nice and sleeked it looked for a mower and how
quiet it was.
I would recommend this mower to anyone wanting to go electric as
the cord is not that big a deal like i thought i would be when
reading the reviews. So far so good B&D has a home run with
this mower.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the
Mosquito Magnet Defender (MMD) model about five weeks ago for my
parents home on a wooded, heavily vegetated lot in Ohio.
Having recently seen a TV interview with a West Nile Virus victim
that was nearly killed I felt a strong need to eliminate this risk
to my parents, who are at greater risk because of their advancing
age.
My father likes to sit outside on the patio for hours reading the
paper and smoking. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes make it difficult
to sit there sometimes. Even so, he is the type of person to brush
off the risk and refuse to wear repellent. A prime candidate for
West Nile should there be virus present.
I had a Defender shipped to their address and was anxious to set it
up and start sucking in huge quantities of mosquitoes. I was hoping
for spectacular results because I knew they would find out how much
the unit cost and question my decision to purchase it.
We assembled the unit pretty easily but we did have to purchase a
new propane tank before starting. The MMD appears to be a solidly
built unit designed for constant exposure to weather.
Determining the correct location for the trap is important and the
method is detailed on their website. You must also place the trap
within reach of an electrical outlet. The cord is quite long but
you will need an exterior outlet or a way to run the cord into your
house.
Upon startup there is a brief warm up period where the status light
on the power switch blinks red. When fully operational it turns to
a solid red and stays that way until the unit runs out of propane.
You can hear a quiet hum from the fan(s). The unit blows a downward
plume of warm carbon dioxide and simultaneously vacuums up the air
near the source of the plume. The warm CO2 and an Octenal cartridge
(included) attract the biting insects. The insects hover around the
mouth of the machine and make a number of passes at it until they
get caught in a mild vacuum and sucked into a metal-screened net
assembly. The air stream is strong enough to prevent them from
flying out and they struggle to stand up in the net until they dry
up and die. The open net is visible from the exterior of the
machine through a clear plastic access door. You can check the
contents of the trap without touching the machine. The net assembly
is easy to empty and is sturdy enough to rinse clean and reuse many
times. You're supposed to leave the MMD run 24/7 to maximize its
impact on the mosquito population.
In the first couple of hours of operation my unit caught a few
mosquitoes and a bunch of no-see-ums. The next couple of weeks were
about the same. I wanted to see hundreds of mosquitoes but got a
couple of dozen. The propane tank ran out after about three weeks
and I had a few dozen mosquitoes, a bunch of no-see-ums and a tiny
spider that crawled in to eat on the dead bugs. Not exactly a
justification for purchase. But there simply were not many
mosquitoes present in the yard at that point in their reproductive
cycle.
It turned out to be a mistake to measure the machine by the number
of mosquitoes in the net. As the previously laid eggs hatched the
MMD then captured many of the newly hatched young. Now I am in week
five (end of July) and the unit has captured about 50-100
mosquitoes in just the last 3-4 days. They appear to be newly
hatched young. I am excited to think of all the offspring these
insects WON'T be having and I am reassured that the MMD actually
works in the presence of mosquitoes.
And this is the key to owning one of these machines. They are most
effective over a period of time. Unlike a vacuum cleaner which does
it job in just one pass, the Mosquito Magnet takes in the insects a
few at a time and prevents them from reproducing hundreds more for
the future. Mosquitoes do not migrate so once you've knocked down
your local population it is difficult for them to recover. Having
spent a lot of money, the temptation is for wanting a spectacular,
instant return on your investment - but that is unlikely. The MMD
does catch mosquitoes and probably does so better than other
products. But the results are not instantaneous.
The real test will be after two or three seasons. If the MMD can
create a mosquito free zone for multiple seasons it will probably
have paid for itself. Of course, the more you dislike mosquitoes,
the more valuable it will be.
The downside is the cost of the unit. Is there a cheaper way to do
the job? Chemicals are probably cheaper, but those have a downside
too. The MMD works constantly and with no effort on your part for
three weeks at a time. It is easier, cleaner and safer than
chemicals.
Unlike Citronella and DEET, which temporarily repels the mosquitoes
only for them to return to bite another day and unlike poison which
wipes out the entire spectrum of insects, the MMD selectively kills
only biting insects. It permanently eliminates them in an
environmentally conscious manner. Other insects are simply not
attracted to the machine. The ease and cleanliness of the operation
are appealing.
I would recommend the Mosquito Magnet Defender because it is
promising over the long run. Its design and principle of operation
are logical. It does seem to capture a large proportion of the
mosquitoes that it comes into contact with and so far it appears to
be a good investment.
But only time will be the final judge of its cost
effectiveness.

(More customer reviews)Pros:
No more lawnmower fumes and heat in my face.
Cutting my lawn is now very quiet.
My hands are no longer tingle from the vibrations coming from my
old gas powered push mower.
Sturdy handle design. This is very important.
Very easy to assemble and use.
Very small footprint, easy to store.
Virtually maintenence free.
Cons:
This mower DOES NOT like tall thick grass. You'll really have to
push hard to get it to go through thick grass and will probalby
have to go over what you just cut a second time to make the lawn
look manicured.
If you fertilize your lawn you'll need to cut it about every other
day.Like I said this mower does not like tall thick grass.
If you have any large mature trees in your yard this mower is not
for you. You'll spend too much time picking up very small twigs that
otherwise will get caught in the mower blades and bring you to a
sudden stop.
Little bumps in the lawn have a tendancy to bring the mower to a
stop.
Brill could have made cutting high grass easier if this mower was
capable of cutting at a higher leangth then what is available.
Other observations:
The size of your lawn doesn't matter as long as it is fairly smooth
and not too hilly.
Don't throw away the little metallic strip that comes with the
mower. This is your blade gauge and will cost you $10 to
replace.
Overall if your in good shape and have patience with this mower you
should be okay. The most improtant suggestion I would make is that
you hold on to your gas mower to keep your grass under control when
rain prevents cutting, otherwise you'll be in for a shoving match
with this mower.

(More customer reviews)I've used one of
these for about fifteen years,a slightly earlier model 1414-16.
It's been a very good mower. It is very easy to push, and cuts very
nicely. Solid metal, yet deceptively light. Its pretty easy to
maintain.Oil the bearings annually, and sharpen the blade every
year or two.Once you've done it once, sharpening the blade takes
about 30 minutes, a screwdriver and a wrench and some valve-lapping
compound, and is pretty easy (about the same complexity as
assembling a new kids bicycle), but is greasy. That's all you ever
have to do.Fifteen years later mine cuts as well as the day I
bought it.
I like to think I'm getting more exercise, but the truth is that
because of its light weight and good cutting mechanism, its no more
effort to push around than a gas mower (if you don't let your grass
get too long......).
The only problem I've had is that you have to frequently tighten
the nuts holding on the wheels.
If you haven't had a push mower before, a couple of caveats:It does
cut more cleanly than a gas mower, but you do usually have to make
two passes. Also, you have to keep current with mowing. If you let
the grass get too long, you are REALLY going to sweat to cut your
lawn the first time. Also, it really won't cut bermuda-type grass
very well at all.

Start
The PR827ES is powered by a reliable 205-cc Briggs and Stratton OHV
engine that is designed for use in colder climates. There are two
ways to start the engine: electric or traditional recoil starting.
Electric starting fires up the engine by using the included power
cord connected to a standard 120-volt outlet, and then pressing the
electric start button located on the engine. The engine will start
without priming.
The deep-tread 16-inch tires are powered for easy maneuvering over
snowy terrain. The drive speed lever controls the snow thrower's
speed and direction (forward/reverse). The traction drive lever
allows the user to quickly engage or disengage the drive
system.
Two-Stage Snow Removal Clears Deep Snow
With a wide 27-inch x 23-inch (W x H) intake and two-stage snow
throwing capability, the PR827ES is able to clear snow more
efficiently than a single-stage model. Two-stage snow thrower
technology employs an auger with an additional impeller for greater
efficiency--removing snow faster and throwing it farther. The
adjustable skid plate allows alterations to the height of the
scraper bar for use on a variety of surfaces, including concrete,
dirt, and ice.
The discharge chute and deflector are controlled remotely, allowing
the snow to be directed away from the user and thrown at a chosen
distance. An integrated tool facilitates quick cleaning of the
discharge chute.
Conveniently Located Control Panel for Easy Operation
The PR827ES features a convenient control panel for managing the
various functions of the machine. Located between the comfortable
loop handle grips, this panel allows the user to control the drive
system's speed and direction, the deflector's angle and direction,
auger operation, and engage or disengage the drive system--all
within arm's reach.
An integrated flood light illuminates the work path for easier
removal of snow in low-light conditions.

(More customer reviews)Expensive - for the
price they should give you six units. It is very difficult to tell
if the units are working. You have to touch them and take a shock to
test them.It is also hard to tell if they are keeping the deer away
since there is no way to tell if they were tripped.I bought them
because I only have a few deer that wonder in to my two acres.I
move the three stakes around about every 4 days.So far I have not
seen any deer or any signs of them for the past four weeks.Buckshot
and buzzcuts continue to be my most effective deterrent but these
new contraptions require much less time and effort and the
neighbors don't complain about wounded Bambi's running through
their yards.Suggested improvements woudl be to increase the shock
voltage, add a on indicator light and a discharge indicator
light.

(More customer reviews)This rain sensor
replaced an older Toro wired rain sensor which failed after about
10 years of use. Although this unit functions reasonably well, I
did not rate it 5 stars (when the previous model definitely was)
because it takes much too long to react. In some cases it required
4-5 hours after a 2 inch downpour to turn off the sprinklers when
set at 1/2 inch. My previous unit, which was also set at 1/2 inch
would react within minutes of reaching the 1/2" mark and would, in
fact, turn off the system while in mid-cycle. I e-mailed Toro
customer service to inquire if this was normal and never received a
response. I may reset to 1/4" to see if it reacts any sooner.
