(More customer reviews)As soon as I saw an ad for this light I had to get it.I've had problems with previous lights coming on whenyou approached the motion sensor straight on so I thought this would be the perfect solution.The first light I received was damaged upon receiving it.The motion sensor arm was cracked (cheap plastic).I returned it and waited a month to receive a new one from Amazon.

Upon receiving the new light it sorta worked.At dusk the light gets confused and doesn't know whether or not to stay on.When it detects motion the light will flicker at dusk.Once the sun fully sets it will then work as described.Unfortunately the light just stopped working properly.It remains on regardless of motion or sunlight.Even taking a flashlight and shining it directly into the photovoltaic cell doesn't shut it off.

I'm returning it back to Amazon one more time.Maybe the third time will be a charm.If it doesn't work after this last attempt it will just be sent back and I will find another manufacturer.The one good aspect of the light it that it appears to pick up motion regardless of how the object is moving which is great.It also has a wide field of detection.

I bought three of these and use them in the afore-mentioned hallway to the bathroom and two closets.Wish they were waterproof so I can put them outside!Been searching for a good deal on these ever since I got them at a ridiculous price on Amazon a couple of years ago.No luck so far, but I may just pick up one more at 'regular' price.I would strongly recommend using rechargeable AAA's.Not a hassle at all to replace, but in high traffic areas like the hallway the batteries drain within a month.

I have nightlights located throughout the house, so that I don't have to flip on lights when I pad about the house at night after others have gone to bed.However, I don't like having them burning power all night when I'm not padding about, and the bulbs burn out too often. This product has an LED nightlight that comes on after dark. It's a very subtle, low power nightlight. When you walk in range of the motion sensor, a brighter set of multiple LEDs turns on, providing much brighter light for wandering about. I put Sentinas at the top and bottom of my stairs so that they automatically light up the stairs at night when someone approaches the staircase. It's a great saftety feature. I also put units in the kitchen and bathroom -- they provide enough light to navigate without use of overhead lights. This product also has a built-in rechargeable battery (unlike the similar unit that Brookstone used to sell, which only worked when plugged in), so you can use it as a flashlight. I really like this product -- it has replaced a whole bunch of separate nightlights, power failure lights, and flashlights. Nifty and useful gadget that makes it safer for me and my elderly parents to wander about the house at night.

Recently, we lost power in the middle of the night.All of the Sentina lights turned on automatically and stayed on until their photocells turned them off in the morning.The next night (when we still didn't have power), the Sentina lights turned on again at dark and got us through another night.Before, this recent experience I really liked this product -- now, I consider them a "must have" product for convenience and safety.

P.S. 8/14/06 One of my Sentina lights developed the same problem cited by another reviewer -- one of the LEDs stopped working. I sent a quick email to the Amazon vendor, and they immediately shipped a replacement, which arrived within two days. I couldn't have asked for quicker, more hassle-free service.

Update 4/10/10.Between my own house, my kid's college room, and my parent's home, I've purchased and installed ten of these units.As a safety feature, I put one at the top and bottom of every set of stairs and at each ends of hallways.With the motion sensor feature, the lights turn on automatically when someone steps into the hallway or approaches the stairs at night.Everyone loves the way the LEDs turn on automatically as you walk around the house at night -- much more convenient than flicking on the light switches, and great safety feature (especially for my retired parents).I've noticed that some reviewers have had quality problems with their lights.In four years, I've had two units (out of ten) go bad.One went bad right away and was replaced by the seller.The other went bad after 3-4 years.In a nutshell, the units I bought have proved to be highly reliable.Maybe the manufacturer started using cheaper components after I bought mine years ago; or maybe I just got lucky.In any case, mine have proved to be reliable and long lived.After five years, I'm still a huge fan of this product for convenience and safety, both during power failures and also day-to-day.

(More customer reviews)I installed two of these at the first point of the house that people will pass on the driveway.Unfortunately though, cars pass about 15 feet away and it doesn't really go off.Also, the range in motion of the lamps is a bit limited.The motion sensor range is pretty limited as well if you are trying to concentrate the lights in a particular direction.These would definitely work best for straight ahead motion sensing, which my application is not.

Set up was very simple and straightforward.The timer setting is great.The only problem I ran into while installing was that I mounted them on uneven stone and the plastic mounting bracket sort of bent out of shape when I screwed it in.

So far though, I would say I am more pleased with them than the one that came installed in our house, it's much less sensitive and is more accurate (leaves blowing on the ground will set off the older one).

(More customer reviews)I actually bought a slightly different model of this product that ... doesn't sell, the X-Contro by Lentek.It's the same thing but without the flashing light.I bought it because we were having problems with rats and racoons in our yard (rats eating from our bird feeders and racoons just tearing the yard up).
I was attraced to the Lentek products because of the 900Mhz motion detector that would set it off if anything moved within a 15' radius.What I found out was that the rats were too small to set it off, so unless I was willing to run a cord out to it so it could run in continuous mode, the rats were safe.
Luckily (I guess), within 2 weeks of setting it up, the motion detector had essentially stopped working and it was going off every 15-20 seconds whether there was any motion or not.That actually helped with the rats and I was a bit thankful for the defect.
However, the advantage of having the device activate every few seconds was mitigated by the noise that it made.New out of the box, the device makes a very pronounced clicking whenever the speakers turn on or off.It's audible enough that when it was setup outside and I had the windows open I could hear it on the other side of my house.Although annoying, that was acceptable to me.
But as time went on, the device became more and more audible, letting out fairly loud, gargled squeaks and chirps from time to time.It seemed to be most pronounced when the device would get wet (it claims to be weatherproof).Finally, today, it has gotten to the point where it is completely audible (and loud)regardless of the frequency range I set the device to.So, I have had to take it down -- since I live in a somewhat compact neighborhood, having that kind of noise blasting out every 20 seconds is a sure way to get death threats from the neighbors.
The most annoying part of this is that, in the end, it never seemed to deter the racoons, who continue to tear up my yard with abandon.Also, as another testament as to how cheaply this thing seemed to be constructed, there is a glued-on piece of paper that sits around the device's controls and provides captions for each.Within 3 days of putting this outside, that paper had curled up and pulled off the device because of the heat (90 F, but it was in a completely shaded area).

(More customer reviews)My neighborhood has had some nighttime vandalism, so I wanted to install a security camera.However, the neighborhood association forbids "architectural modifications", and you can't just slap a camera on the front of your home.This camera, with its compact size, seemed like the solution.I removed its base, leaving just a two-inch-long cylinder, and set it on a ledge outside a window with a putty cradle to hold it in place.I taped (should caulk) shut the little screw holes left by removal of the base.The cord from the power adapter is narrow and flexible, and the window shut over it easily.The camera is inconspicuous and has made it through many rains with no problem.See the customer image captioned, "Windowsill installation".

The camera's daylight picture is acceptable.You even have the option of running it off a 9V battery.I have detected no interference from my wireless router or cordless phones.

Now for the bad news.The camera's maximum infrared range is nine feet, so it is not designed for watching your yard at night.You can compensate for this with some strong lighting attached to a motion detector.However, at night the camera's infrared LEDs reflect off the camera's front window as a white, fuzzy halo that blurs the top of the picture. (Poor design, IMO.)Swann should have included a switch to optionally turn the LEDs off.

All in all, considering it as a learning experience, it was not a bad starter camera.However, I think that my next camera will simply be a long-range indoor camera looking through a window, aided by a motion-activated floodlight.

2/19/07 update: After a year of operation night vision remains poor, although it is somewhat improved by a motion-activated floodlight that I installed.I also attached a motion-sensing DVR, and it operates normally with this camera because I have put the receiver right up against the window next to the camera, so the picture is very stable.(Again, see the customer image captioned, "Windowsill installation".)

(More customer reviews)It was exactly what I wanted.It accepts 110VAC directly into the fixture and does not use a power adapter as some others do (which don't easily work if you are replacing a flourescent fixture that has 110VAC directly coming to it).The direct power also means that multiple fixturres can easily be 'daisy chained' together for a long under cabinet run.

The LED light is closer to natural daylight than incedescent, thus making the light slighty blue tinted.This is not as warm as normal bulbs but I found it to be quite aceptable.The light output is a bit dimmer than I had hoped for, but it seems adequate for countertop use.The light is more focused downward and does not spread as much as a flourscent fixture will, thus you should test the mounting position carefully before making the final cabinet attachment.

Also, the bottom of the LED bulbs is a bit lower than the compact flourscent fixture this replaced, thus a short person can see the bulbs now, when they didn't before, but since the light is mainly projected down (see above focus comment) the visability is not a problem.
