(More customer reviews)I used this product to feed a 10 pound cat dry food morsels.I used the feeder for exactly 1 year (before the cat died).My cat was an obsessive eater.She would make our lives miserable by begging, rather attacking us for food; waking us up 4 hours before breakfast and purposefully ruining anything we were doing 2 hours or more before dinnertime.We had tried two other automatic feeders during the previous 10 years and she had broken into the two other automatic cat food dishes in no time (one she broke into within minutes).She did not thwart this feeder, she really only tried twice to break into it but gave up fairly quickly and never tried again.I had purchased the chute, which is an accessory, which may or may not have been needed to thwart her attempts.The feeder, itself is much smaller than the pictures reveal, which is a good thing.

I had the one hopper (it comes with) and purchased one additional "hopper extension."So, my feeder had a total of two square plastic "hopper" pieces.With the hopper and one hopper extension, I only had to fill the feeder up once a week, which was an unexpected liberating bonus.It was incredibly nice not to worry about twice-a-day feedings or even filling up the feeder daily (unless the power went out).

Generally, a problem with any hopper style feeder is you can only put one type of food in the machine, so they are eating only one flavor/brand all week.(We tried layering foods, but each food was different in size, so that did not work with this feeder.)And a specific problem with this feeder, for cat food, was it took about 10 minutes to set the hopper each time the morsel shape of the food changed (to unplug it from the timer, move it away from the cat, and actually set, test, reset, and retest the amount dropped).And to set the feeder, it required a high level of precision, since one tiny movement of the setting, altered the amount of food it would drop dramatically.Then, once I set the feeder with the precision of a watch maker, the amount of food dropped each feeding was inconsistent.I was required to set with precision, but the feeder dropped within a range of amounts.Generally, by the end of the week, I liked to think each feeding averaged out to the correct amount (of a 1/2 cup per day).

I also found that when the hopper was full/near full or it had 20% or less left in the hopper, it dropped out a lot more than it was set to drop.When it was only 20% full, the feeder ran the risk of dropping every morsel of food remaining in the hopper.I just learned to keep it 20% or more full.When it was full or near full, the weight of the food in the two-piece high hopper seemed to push a greater amount of food out (than it was set to drop).

The feeder did work, in that the cat could not get into it, it fed her sufficiently, and within a week of owning the feeder, the cat learned the feeder fed her and not us, so she quit waking us up daily at 4AM for 8AM breakfast or aggressively begging for food and annoying us 2 hours before dinner daily.The feeder did separate us from the food in the cats' mind, which made our lives unbelievably better.The last year we had the feeder with her, our lives improved tremendously.Glad we bought it.

(More customer reviews)I bought one about 6 months ago, for the same problem as the other reviewer--my cat would pester me at 5:30am. At first, it seemed like a godsend, but I quickly found some major issues with it, and now it's broken. My issues:

1)The 9v battery lasted only about 2-3 weeks, which gets pricey after awhile to keep changing;

2)I had to time my refills of it with the next scheduled feeding (every 6 hrs for my cat), or else his schedule would be thrown off. There was no way to 'set' feeding times. It resets itself every time you refill it. So for example, if I was leaving for the weekend at 2pm, and I normally fed my cat at 6am/pm and 12am/pm, then I had to make sure I cleaned/refilled the feeder precisely at 12pm, or else it would get off-cycle. Perhaps not a big deal for most, but it was frustrating for me to make sure I was home at 12pm or 6pm so I could set it to his schedule. I thought this was supposed to make my life easier?! I found I often had to overfeed him, or let him go longer than 6 hours without a meal in order to coordinate times.

3)At times when I couldn't coordinate the feeder refill to my cat's schedule, and set it for whenever I could, when I got back from being away, there was no way to tell if he had eaten recently or not. My cat certainly wasn't telling me he was full! So I probably ended up overfeeding him at times because he is a master manipulator, and I couldn't tell if he was really hungry or just begging! I started marking one side of the feeder as TOP, then I'd have to count the number of times it rotated to see when he last ate.

4)On that same note, the feeder doesn't know when it's full or not, so if it's turned on, it just keeps rotating until the battery runs out. I once forgot to refill it, and it kept rotating, empty. My cat ended up clawing it to try to get to a full food compartment. Poor kitty! Bad mom!

5)The dial turns VERY slowly, as it is also automated, drawing on that same 9v battery, which is why it drains so fast. My cat waits for the feeder to kick in, so as soon as it starts, he's got his head stuffed into the compartment, and he inadvertently (or purposely!) pushes the lid along, which I think caused it to break.

For me, there were too many factors making it not worth replacing. I ended up spending more at Petsmart on another feeder (C50 Auto Pet Feeder) which only does 5 meals, but it runs on 1 AA battery, and you can 'set' the timer anytime you want. Only the timer draws power. The rest of it is on a simple hinge mechanism, so it swings very fast, is QUIET (unlike the first feeder, which is loud), and isn't dependent on what time of day you refill it. One other feature is that it has a finite turning radius, so when the feeder is empty, it knows, and it won't keep rotating. To restart it, I have to reset the clock, then turn the lid back around on that same simple hinge mechanism, in the opposite direction. It's REALLY easy to reset, but what's good is that if I forget to refill it, it doesn't taunt my cat with an empty bowl by continuing to rotate.

It also has a battery-life counter so you can see when your battery needs replacing, as well as a cover for the timer mechanism so your cat won't bump it or otherwise damage it.

I've had it 4 weeks now, and the same AA battery is going strong, and it's a breeze to use. I only wish it had more compartments, but I'm more than satisfied with it!

My babies only weigh 5 lbs and 6.7 lbs. That is too high of a dose for them. I give them 1/4 teaspoon when their tummies are upset. It starts working within 30 minutes. They do not like the taste of it,so I cannot not mix it with their food, so I use a dropper.

(More customer reviews)I have a long-ish haired cat, (and 3 short haired) she's only a year old and when she started throwing up my vet gave me this (and totally over charged me. $18...)

I tried giving it to her on a spoon like the vet told me but when that proved totally useless I just mixed it in with a small amount of wet food. I only mix it in to about as much as I know she would eat, she goes over to the shared dish if she's still hungry. Once it's added in she can't tell and even the other cats are interested. (None of them liked it when I tried to mix it in dry food. It was just an idea; it may work for some cats.) She hasn't had a problem since.

Over all it works great if you can get it into your cat. That's why I also give it 4 stars.

(More customer reviews)The main product works great, a geared down motor spins the auger slowly, durable made unit, comes withcovers for outdoor use. The unit itself I recommend for portion control of small to medium dogfood pieces etc, which i use it for. One of the mounting plastic pieces where broken on arrival, called the manufacturer (US importer) number and they sent a new one promptly.

The timer is another story, the first one worked for 20 minutes, the second one they sent me has issues, wiggling the plugged in plug will contsantly leave the output on, cheap stuff. Resulution is to the second so the chip in it is ok.

(More customer reviews)I used Fresh Step clay litter for quite a while; but I decided to try this clumping litter when it was recently on sale at the store. This Fresh Step "Premium" clumping cat litter is excellent for your favorite kitty's litter box. The company states that it is very good at absorbing odors--and, by golly, it's TRUE! The odors are minimal at the very most and it is quite comfortable even for my rather sensitive cat. Moreover, I really like how the litter has the capacity to absorb and prevent odor causing bacteria in the litter before my cat even uses his litter box.

If you have more than one cat the manufacturer does recommend, not surprisingly, that you use more cat litter in the box. Otherwise, if you have just one cat, two or three inches worth of this cat litter spread about evenly throughout the empty litter box will do fine. You should change the entire litter box once a week on average. (I change mine about twice a week just for my cat's comfort.)

It's also a good idea to scoop out any "kitty remains" every other day or so. If you can do it every day, that's even better. Be very certain NOT to flush any "kitty presents" down the toilet as the manufacturer warns against this. I suppose it could clog toilet pipes. Moreover, as you may suspect, any "kitty leftovers" could have some nasty germs that we don't want so wash your hands really carefully after you clean the box or even after you just remove any "kitty presents" with a scooper.

I recommend changing the entire litter box at least once a week. Place the contents of the used litter box into a trash bag and discard as you would any other garbage.

In short, this is a great cat litter product at a great price. The contents of the bag last a long time, especially if, like me, you have only one cat.
