(More customer reviews)I was willing to spend about $800 on a Home Theater System when I found this one during a search. It caught my attention, because it has an iPod dock. Anyway, I thought why not try this out and if it sounds bad, I'll return it. Well, I'm not going to return it, because I'm so impressed with it. The 5.1 sounds really awesome, but you have to buy the speaker brackets for $8.45 @ Wal-Mart, that really made the difference for me. DVD player really upscales it to 1080i and the iPod dock works good too. Bought it @ Best Buy for $189. I'm sure there are better HTS out there, but for this price it is worth to try.

No sound coming out of the speakers or the headphone jack at all.There are several online reports of this being a common problem with this model.Aparently it's not worth the repair....

I had to call Samsung ( on a SUNDAY no less, yes, they do ANSWER!) and they "fixed" my problem in less that 1 minute, VERY impressed with their support.

One of my students dropped this laptop from my desk but lo and behold nothing happened. I had it checked just to make sure but everything is perfect! Amazing! So durability wise its so good. Its fast with the internet. Picks up wi-fi so fast. The webcam is ok too. The picture resolution when I play dvd or from online is very clear. The design is just right. The touch pad is amazingly smooth. Its not sensitive but just right. Vista is good in this laptop. Before I forget, this laptop doesn't get hot fast on my lap. Excellent! It runs quiet too. All in all I don't have any problem with this.

In my system, sound goes out to Martin Logan SL3 speakers, which expose every flaw in the system (reference speakers for many magazines).I have yet to notice anything out of the ordinary -- the sound quality is superb.
The video quality is also superb, as displayed on our Panasonic CT34WX50 16:9 direct view monitor.No issues.
No cons, I have never been more happy with television.Buy this, you won't regret it.

This is an excellent budget notebook with a 15.6" screen that's only 5.8 lbs.We just bought two for my wife's parents (don't buy it for 3D games, as it has integrated graphics, but office apps and browsing are fine).

Pros:
- T6600 Core 2 Duo (not the Pentium Dual Core, lower-end C2D, ULVs, or Atoms)
- Relatively quiet and light (5.8 lbs)
- Big hard drive (mine had a Seagate Momentus 5400.6)
- Screen has relatively good viewing angles, horizontal and vertical
- Pretty good fit and finish for a plastic casing (although there's a somewhat flimsy lid that is separate from the battery)
- 4 USB ports
- VGA output is crisp (to 1280x1024, didn't try bigger)
- I haven't noticed the palm rest getting warm at all ... but you're not playing 3D games are you?
- You can select one language during boot up that's set forever, that is, until you restore from the recovery partition.The first time I chose Traditional Chinese.Works great.I restored (press F9 at boot) and selected English.Works great, didn't need to put in DVDs, and all the software reappeared.I even choose the option to use one C: drive, instead of the default 60% C:, 40% D:.
- Opening the notebook casing is easy -- find the "electronic - hardware" version (not the "hardware" version) of the manual on Asus's web site (search for K50, then click Download, then Manuals).The hard drive is easily replaceable.Relatively clean layout so I can imagine blowing out dust bunnies will be easy.
- Includes Office Home & Student 2007 (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/OneNote) pre-installed WITHOUT a product key.It asks for that so I assume you just punch one in and everything's great.
- Includes a trial of Trend Micro Internet Security for antivirus protection pre-installed.
- Aside from the Asus utilities, relatively little bloatware
- Turned off all of Win7's eye candy.Don't need that.
- 1-year international warranty.Includes accident protection (register for this within 60 days on the Asus U.S. web site, and it's non-transferrable from the original owner).No paperwork on extending the warranty.We're trying our luck in case the computer breaks down in < 1 year and they give us a hassle about it being a gift and the warranty being valid.

Cons:
- A bit fat
- The screen has a blue tinge, just like with Asus's TN LCD displays.You get used to it though.
- Glossy screen (reflections), not matte
- Two-finger touchpad scrolling is too sensitive out of the box with Firefox (although it might be okay with IE).Turning it all the way down, it's fine.
- The numeric keypad uses smaller keys!Difficult to use for folks with big hands.
- The arrow keys don't have space around them (and actually the right arrow key is bumped into the numeric keypad section), so you need to learn where they are.
- The keyboard and touchpad are on the left side of the computer because of the numeric keypad.You quickly get used to that, though, so no biggie.
- The touchpad buttons require some pressure to click, but you get used to it.
- 4 GB maximum memory.Just 1 user-accessible memory slot which contains 2GB.No biggie.
- No DVI.No port replicator option with that option.
- No Bluetooth, FireWire, eSATA, ExpressCard/PCI Express slot
- Integrated Intel graphics (not for 3D gaming, but great for 2D apps)
- The T6600 doesn't support Windows 7's XP compatibility mode.Most of the Win7 Home Premium notebooks I've seen have a CPU which doesn't support XP mode.Only Win7 Professional and higher supports VT mode anyway.Does XP mode matter at all?I have no idea.Search the Internet for that.
- It doesn't wake up when you open the lid.It does sleep when you close the lid.Yes, I checked the settings.Tip:Change the close-lid behavior to Sleep instead of Hibernate for a faster sleep, but battery will drain faster.

Edit 12/10/09:

A few cons I've noticed:
- The two speakers are on the bottom of the notebook, at the front lip.You really need a hard surface to reflect the sound up to you.Definitely below average compared with other notebooks IMO.
- The Page Up / Down keys are above the numeric keypad -- way out of reach.It's an incredible hassle with Internet browsing.
- Remember how I wrote the graphics are good enough for 2D?If you watch a Yahoo! music video in full screen mode, that sucker will tear during fast motion.It's fine at the normal zoom level and with computers with discrete graphics.
- I'm always accidentally hitting the DVD eject button.Other notebooks I've used recess this button.

After hooking it up correctly, I could not receive any satellite signal. Removed this surge protector and everything went back to normal. I don't think it supports everything. If you have audiophile tastes, I'm sure this won't measure up. It seems like many people were expecting this to sound like an $1,000.00 amp. It may not sound like that, but it does, however, sound as good as amps 3 times it's price. I have owned many amps over the years, and this one works great in every way. For 95% of the consumers out there, this has plenty of power. If you have specific needs for more wattage, then buy an amp with more wattage for Pete's sake! If you have specific needs for audiophile quality output, then buy another amp for Pete's sake! This amp is made for the every day radio/music listener. it isn't made for people with specific audio needs. Don't listen to the bad reviews on this, seriously. They are written by people who should have known better than to buy this in the first place. They are written by BMW drivers who bought a Toyota and want to complain that it doesn't have BMW performance.

(More customer reviews)This will be the fourth receiver I've owned and by far the best. My last was the Onkyo TX-SR500, and it was solid. But I wasn't completely satisfied with the 5.1 surround sound generated from it. The audio was serviceable, but I knew it should sound better...especially considering it was connected to an excellent set of speakers (Onkyo SKS-HT500). So, without being too serious about it, I decided to look around for a new receiver.

I was specifically looking for an AVR that would support HDMI audio output now that I have an HD-DVD player, but frankly there aren't that many available in the store. I did find several affordable receivers that might be an improvement over what I already have. I especially had my eye on a Yamaha and this Harman/Kardon AVR. Neither supported HDMI audio, but they do provide HDMI ports for pass-through. Neither support TrueHD or DTS-HD, which also intrigued me.

When it was said and done, I decided those fancy features aren't really important for me right now. What IS important is a strong 5.1 surround sound at an affordable price. Did I mention both AVRs were out-of-the-box? I couldn't resist. I had heard some good things about the sound quality of H/K receivers and it's pleasing to the eye as well. I took it. And I'm so glad I did.

First, it has an amazing number of inputs and outputs. Plenty of ports for analog cables, coaxial and optical digital audio cables, s-video and component video cables. Maybe someday I'll actually have all those cables. As it is, I have my cable box and HD-DVD player connected with the fiber-optic cables and my other DVD/CD player connected by coaxial digital cable. And everything sounds incredible!

Now I don't want to imply that Onkyo is substandard. They make a great product. But my Onkyo AVR was probably a bit old and worn out. Sounds sometimes seemed muffled, particularly when watching movies with lots of explosions or gunfire. But the H/K is definitely an improvement. Right now, I'm watching one of the Harry Potter DVD's right now and I'm just enveloped in glorious 5.1 surround sound! The audio is sharp, crisp and, when need be, loud. When I played my Brandi Carlile CD, it sounded incredibly powerful and rich...and that's just from the Dolby ProLogic II - Music setting. I used to listen to CDs through the analogue cables to get decent audio quality from all 5 speakers and the subwoofer, but I think I'll keep the AVR on digital.

One thing that may turn-off potential buyers is the low wattage per speakers from the AVR-146 at only 30 watts per channel. I suppose if you need a new AVR for a huge Home Theater room you should get something more powerful. But I've had receivers with highter watts and they never sounded THIS good. I don't know what else to say about that...Harman/Kardon makes a great audio product and I'm truly enjoying my listening experience so far.

(More customer reviews)I just purchased this system 2 days ago and let me tell you it is a BLAST! Though you have to do some tweeking to bring out the full potential of this system. I read some of the previous reviews for this system and let me tell you some of the other buyers of this system did not know how to use this system. First of all the 320 watt subwoofer is fully adustable. So you have to adjust it up to level 4 then press the heavy bass button to bring out it's full potential. Next you need to go under system quick setup, then audio, then speakers and adjust them up to 5.0 ms to bring then up to speed.

After that you need to press the surround music button which will really fill your room with awesome surround sound. And last but not least you CAN use this system as audio while watching daily tv programs as well. What you have to do is run an auxiliary cable(red and white) from the aux slot on the back of the receiver/dvd player to the aux slot on the back of your tv. Then you press the ext-in button until it says aux. And boom! You have theatre sound for your daily viewing. I can't get enough of this system. It really blew away my expectations once I finished tweaking it.After some minor tweaking this system really thumps on level 30 yet it can go all the way up to level 50. It really shines on cd's and radio.Also sounds great on dvd's as well. Good surround sound for daily viewing. Can't wait to play some xbox on it as well. So to any potential buyers breezing through this review and thinking about it getting this system I can promise you won't be dissapointed. Grab one now!

(More customer reviews)I bought this camcorder on September 28, 2003 when it was still fairly new on the market and more expensive than it is now. By July 2004 both the LCD screen and the viewfinder just went black. No image but I was still able to record audio. I reported it to JVC. They told me I had to send it in for repair, which I did. It seems that this was a common problem. They didn't ask too many questions. The warranty had already expired so I had to pay a couple hundred dollars. Six months later, the same problem again. I called JVC again and told them the problem. The technician who attended to me suggested that I turn it off and disconnect all power for about an hour and then try again because "that usually works." Now what kind of advice is that? I need this camera to shoot footage of events. What am I supposed to do each time this happens? Turn it off for an hour and ask the event organisers to postpone their events for an hour? Anyway, even that super solution didn't work, so I called again and they said I had to send it in for repair again. So I asked, would I have to be sending this camera in to you every six months? "No," she responded but "thank you for calling JVC."
The words I would like to use to describe this camera and JVC cannot be expressed here but do not buy this camera!!! For the short period of time that it did work, it was great, but I will never buy this or any other JVC product ever again.

I thought about fixing it and then selling it used but then my conscience wouldn't let me pass this problem on to someone else. So I decided to write this review.

(More customer reviews)I had it for almost three months.I am generally happy with it although I feel that I could have gotten something else at a cheaper price with better quality if I didn't want something so compact.
First, the picture quality suffers significantly in any low light, like other posters have pointed out, but it is still acceptable for most amateurs and home-moving making purposes.By the way, when I say low light, I dont mean dark, but simply a low light environment like a room in a daylight without the internal lights turned on.The picture gets very grainy as darker it gets.But, it is still acceptable though.Having said that, the picture looks absolutely sharp under normal condition, especially outside under the sun.
Second, the battery lasts about 45 minutes tops. You definitely need to get a second or even a third battery if you want to tape some of the popular home video taping events like graduation.Not using the LCD screen helps, but I bought a camcorder with LCD screen so that I can use it!
Third, the digital image stabilizer is not that good.This is a common fault with other camcorders with digital image stabilizer.If you really want the smooth picture stabilizing function, you have to go with optical image stabilizer, which will set you back some more money.
Fourth, Firewall connection cable (IEEE 1394) is not included, and you have to buy one.You cannot use USB connection to transfer movies from the camcorder to your computer.Be aware of this and add another $$$ bucks to the total cost if you don't have one.
Fifth, the microphone range is very limited.Unless you are within 10 feet of the camera, you will not be heard. Plus, if you talk while filming, you will be the loudest voice on the tape by 100 times over others around you.It is that sensitive.On the infamous Canon camcorder feature of picking up the motor noise, I think it is not that bad.You can hear it, but it is not really that loud.I will be surprised if most camcorders don't record at least some motor noise especially at ones at this size.Unless you are absolutely sensitive about picking up some, very faint noise in the background, I would disregard this popular (almost religious) Canon complaint when thinking about purchasing this camcorder.
Sixth, it is remarkably small, and it is about the size of my digital camera.So, I guess you are giving up on some features for the compactness of the device.
Overall, the camcorder has worked fine without any mechanical problem in three months of ownership.I called the 1-800 call center for some technical help, and they were very helpful.I think you can get better features at a much lower price if you can deal with a camcorder that is not so compact but still fits in one hand.

(More customer reviews)I'm a big fan of the HP HDX series.It sits at the top of their Pavilion line and is one of the best built notebooks sold in the retail channel.It's aimed solidly at consumers looking for a high end entertainment laptop.Because the material quality is well above average it's not necessarily the best value: you can get these specs for less money, just not with the same build quality.This is a good choice for someone looking for a notebook that can handle more than just web browsing.The biggest drawback of this HDX model is a slightly under powered battery and a little more weight (though again, much of that lies with the superior frame and shell).

Let's go over the specs:

CPU: The Core 2 P7550 runs two separate cores at 2.26GHz and has 3MB of on chip cache.The Core2 line is the best notebook CPU out there today and and this model this is about in the middle of the mobile Core2 line in terms of performance.At 35W it sits in the same thermal envelope as much slower chips (such as the Mobile Pentium line).Having two cores means you can run your full internet security suite and not have your computer freeze up for events like a virus scan.
