(More customer reviews)Having an organically-maintained/designed yard, no chemicals are used anywhere in our property.Our pond is 4 years old, around 10,000 gallons in size, 4 feet at the deepest point.Barley extract is the sole add-on for maintaining this pond, outside of:

A. periodic cleanups (minimal work: emptying skimmer baskets depending on the wind/weather, rinsing filters, adding extra water due to evaporation);

B. a major cleanup (since it takes half a day or so) in spring after all the ice thaws out; and

C. unscheduled cleanups immediately after storms pass by when a lot of leaves come flying out of the woods (our property is surrounded by trees and conservation forest).

All fish (1 dozen gold fish/koi and 1 dozen other small types caught from the wild) stay in the pond over the winter.We do not feed these fish, they get enough nutrition from the natural plants growing or creatures living in or visiting the pond.We initially started with 7 gold fish/kois and added the others over time.I remove some of them when they get too large, or when they make babies.

We see most of the fish (specially the bright orange ones) clearly even from our second floor window (the pond is ~50 feet away from the house).The pond looks natural and clean, however, we do not expect this pond to look like sparkling clean drinking water!

A lot of people may not understand that organically maintained and balanced pond does not equate to sterile, artificially sparkling clean pool water!I think that is a major issue when people complain about their ponds.

Our pond can get out of shape when I do not do regular cleanups.But wetry to monitor and correct problems before they get out of control.For example, if the waterfalls are not pushing the right amount of water, we check things out in the filters -- one time there was a poor dead frog in the pump's filter!If we've waited too long to remove the leaves, or forgot to add the barley extract for several weeks, and there is an algae bloom, we scrub the rocks all around and drain at least 25% of water then add fresh water (we've only done that once so far).When everything looks good, we resume adding barley extract again as scheduled.

So, my point here is that Barley Straw Extract really works if applied correctly, but how well it works depends on one's realistic expectation... it definitely does not work like a harsh swimming pool chemical, and it really works well for organically-maintained pond.(If any pond water ever gets too awful looking, I'd recommend scrubbing algae all over and pumping out most of the water and start with 90% clean water to make the barley straw's job more effective).

I have tried several brands of Barley Straw Extract and they all pretty much perform the same way.The only failure is usually on my part, when I forget to add as scheduled!

I usually compare the volume of water that can be treated by a specific amount of the extract, by brand, and I've found that:
1.The most expensive ones are usually those of big name brands.
2.Pricewise, it is best to buy the extract by the gallon.

Looking at the photo one would think that the fork that catches and holds the gate frame is made of metal, but upon receiving my order I found out it is made of PLASTIC! Maybe a strong plastic but plastic nonetheless. The only metal are the bolts and the inside of that vertical piece that engages/disengages the fork.

I am using this along with a spring assisted gate closer so just imagine how many gate open/close slams before this thing fails.

(More customer reviews)I've used one of these for several years to clean swimming pools.With the provided bag, it works to pick up small sticks and heavy leaf accumulation, but without the optional silt bag, if there is a lot of fine dirt or sand in the pool or pond, it won't take long before all the fine debris is stirred up to the point where you will lose sight of the bottom and what you're trying to pick up.

If you hav a lot of dirt or sand in the pool or pond, you WILL be wishing you had gotten the optional silt bag.The really fine silt passes through the silt bag enough to cloud the water, but the silt bag will allow the leaf eater to pick up and hold most of the dirt and sand leaving only the finest debris behind.

As supplied, I'd give the leaf eater 4 out of 5 stars.If it came with the silt bag IN ADDITION TO the leaf bag at NO additional charge, that 4 star rating would improve to a 5 star rating.

Only problem with the optional silt bag is that if there is a lot of fine silt, the water flow may reduce forcing you to empty the bag before the bag is actually full just to restore the water flow enough to pick up the leaves.

Best method, FIRST clean bulky debris (leaves, etc.) with provided mesh bag, then, if you don't have a vacuum to hook up to a pump to pull silt out of pool/pond, switch to silt bag to remove the fine silt.

With swimming pools, I usually use this product for most of the leaves, then switch to pool vacuum with system switched to WASTE to vacuum fine debris out of pool after allowing 12 - 24 hours for stirred up silt to settle to bottom.

(More customer reviews)After reading many reviews here and in other sites, I decided to try buying one of each - the mini reef fish and the bigger reef fish.

I knew I had to protect the battery well (for both of them) after reading the reviews, so I isolated as well as I could to the point of making the toy look like it had barely survived a major operation.

What no other reviewer has mentioned to you is that the major difference from the mini reef fish is that there is no button to turn it on/off, only two small metal protusions (well hidden behind one of the fins) to close the circuit once is in the water (that is the hope at least).

That concerned me. I knew this was not a good sign to expect a long lasting life out of this toy.

The bigger reef fish has a button in that same location: You click on it and it starts. Simple.

After my many water proof bandages I turned the bigger fish on: It works, great! But the smaller one I can only test after placing in the water...

I wasn't that surprised when nothing happened. The poor fish just laid there, lifeless. OK, maybe I failed the difficult task of properly inserting a single battery. So, I remove all the bandages, put a new battery, make sure it is properly inserted, water-proof it again and place in the water one more time...

It works! Nice, they both work, people like it, all good.

Next day, turn the bigger one: No problem. Put the small one in the water: No good. Nothing.

You are probably expecting me to say I removed all the bandages again, try new batteries, etc... but no. I get the picture with this toy: Bad design, real bad.

Also, remember that even though it looks like you are buying three fishes (the big or the small one) you are only getting one. And you cannot choose the color.

Get the bigger one. That one is good.

(More customer reviews)I live in the Palm Springs, Ca area, and the wind often blows significant quantities of sand and organic particulates (filter-clogging mesquite tree leaves) into my pool.My automatic pool vacuum effectively clears the debris into the filter wherein lies the problem which the Blaster 3000 solves so well.I hate hosing /off/out my pool filter because it is time consuming, tedious, inefficient, and the results are often less then I would have hoped for.With the Blaster 3000, I hook up the hose, set it on the driveway, put the filter on it, and let it clean.15-20 minutes later the filter is really clean.This unit has made my most dreaded chore a snap, and I find that I am more motivated than ever to keep my pool looking its best without having to hire somebody to do it for me.I would recommend the Blaster to anybody with a pool that uses filter cartridges.

(More customer reviews)This is a really nice unit if it fits your purpose.I must stress however, that is if it fits your purpose.As I now realize, 25,000 BTU/hr is not an enormous amount of heat.This unit really is designed for use in a closed in space w/ minimal air curculation.The heating method is to raise the temperature of all objects in the radiant field so that the space stays warm.A breeze or draft will reduce it's ability to maintain the heat.The unit comes with a thermostat for mounting on a wall and setting a desired heat.I've eliminated the thermostat and just hard wired the unit.If it's cold enough to have it on, then I want it on.Mr. Heater advertises using the term "millivolt" ignition or something to this manner.This is misleading.This is not a electronic ignition unit!!!This means the unit has a pilot light.The pilot light heats a thermocouple which provides the "millivolt" current they refer to.The thermostat either "opens" or "closes" the circuit, depending on the temperature and thermostat setting.The "closed" loop opens a solenoid valve in the pressure regulator which releases the gas to the burner.
My unit is installed on a large covered patio outside approximately 8' above a sitting area.Sitting below the heater in a 8' diameter circle is nice and toasty, even with a slight breeze.Sitting across the table at 12' you can feel a slight warming effect with no breeze.More than 12' away....no impact.This is not a highly effective heater if used in an open space.As advertised....this is a garage heater.To get the heat I need I am adding a second heater across the patio from the first.
Clearances around the unit are important.I have 2' clear above my unit, and the lumber above the unit gets warmer than I would like.After 2 hours of use I can touch the wood with my bare hand without having to remove it, but it is quite warm.I'm thinking about 120 to 130F.I have some harditrim up there too and it is even warmer.Not too sure how long the paint will last.
Installation is a breeze.Includes a video if you need it, but there is essentially nothing to it.
Good buy....if it's what you need. If you are thinking of installing it outside......you may want to consider getting more BTU's.

(More customer reviews)I bought the original design about 5 years ago after losing half my Koi from our pond. After the 3rd year, the eyes 'dulled' and didn't look real. (we lost a couple more fish---not realizing what had happened)

I replaced it with a new 'Gator Guard' and all is well again. I would suggest replacing it after 2 or 3 years. I'm going to see if I can purchase the plastic eyes in the future & save some $$$.

I live in Point Pleasant, NJ. This thing has saved my fish.
Sorry to see that some people haven't had the same luck.

Not only has it saved my fish, but keeps the ducks and heron and any other large birds from my property and above ground pool ever since. I let it float on the water and the water is always moving via the waterfall or the fish swimming. 5 stars from me!

(More customer reviews)I purchased an iHeater in July of 2009. I live in an area where we do not need heaters until late October or mid November. I started to use the iHeater in my newborn son's room in late November. The heater worked fine for about 30 days or so and started to shut off for no reason. I called the customer service department and got a fax number to send the receipt to. I faxed it in. Nothing. I waited for just over 45 days and then called again. Again was told to fax the receipt in. I again got no response. I tried calling several times to get a message that the hold time was 3 minutes. I tried numerous times and was always told 3 minutes, even though I was would more liek 10-15 minutes, it then gives an option to leave a message. These never get returned. Amazingly enough I get a call back after I faxed again in October to tell me that I was out of the warranty period and they want another 59.00 to get it fixed and then have a 7 day warranty. I asked why I would care about the 7 day warranty when the 12 month warranty wasn't upheld. The rude robotic customer service rep didn't care. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told it is against company policy to let a customer speak to a supervisor. One would have to call back. Sounds kinda fishy why a customer is not able to speak to a supervisor about a product issue.

They still refuse to fix the product and I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN AND RECOMMEND THAT YOU DON'T EITHER. MY SIBLINGS HAVE OTHER BRANDS OF INFRARED HEATERS AND RECOMMEND THAT YOU BUY ANYTHING OTHER THAN IHEATERS!!!!

I've had the base & one remote sensor for four months.Temperature is accurate and I haven't had to replace the batteries yet.The large display is easy to read.

It's nice to know the outside temperature before getting up & dressed.

The flaw:The tenths of a degree position on the base unit's local temperature is faulty.That wasn't worth the trouble to return & replace, but it's a sign of sloppy quality control.

(More customer reviews)I was reading about house keeping and baking soda. I thought it will be really great. Because It has a lot of uses, cheap, not bad for you, and good for the earth.
This is how I use baking soda.
1. I use only 2/3 of laundry detergent and use 1/2 cup of baking soda. It makes clothes really clean and good for the world.
2. I use 1/2 spoon to wash my hair. My hair feels dried when it's wet. But later when my hair is dried, it feels really soft.
3.I exfoliate my face with baking soda like it says on the box. My skin looks clear and soft. I was using St.Ives scrub stuff. But I like baking soda more than that. Because its particles are really fine. So I just think it will be better for my skin.
4. I use this to take a shower. Put 1 spoon of it on shower clothes with body shower stuff. My skin feels dried but cleaner and later it gets not dried without lotion.
5. I use this to brush my teeth, too. I love it. It has salty taste.. You will may not like this. But after brushing, breath smells good, cleaner, and it is supposed to make teeth whiter.
I just love using baking soda now. I found 75 ways using baking soda by searching Google. I am expecting baby and I will use baking soda to clean my babies diapers, clothes later.
It has uses information on the back of the box. And You can give friends as a little gift. I ordered 3 boxes and gave 1 box to my friend and told him how to use them. And He loved it. Great thing to share i think..
