(More customer reviews)In a nut shell, if you have the need to measure stuff under 1/16" regularly and you're not to particular about you're tools it's a good little rule. I needed a cheapo for one of my classes I'm taking in school. The clip-on-rule is too tight to slide well and causes burs and rough spots on the edge of the rule which would more then likely skew a scribe mark. It's finish is almost polished which makes it a bit hard to see depending on you're angel to the light. I just took an emery board and roughed it up to take some of the shine off. I do like that it has decimal equivalent on the back, for the scatter brained like my self that's a good time saver.

I bit of file work on the edges and some fine sand paper on the face will make it more user friendly.

(More customer reviews)I bought this tool to use for scrapbooking and card making.I like that I can make any size circle I want.I do like this tool and do recommend it - but there are a few drawbacks. I can live with them, but wanted to make others aware just in case-
1st - it leaves a hole in the center of my circle
2nd - I have not found the measurements to be accurate, so it has taken practice to get the correct size I am after
3rd - I really wish it had some kind of case to put it in, to not only protect the blade, but also to protect me from the blade

I was reading a recent special issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine entitled "The Ultimate Guide to Tablesaws 2004". In this magazine I found the article "19 Step Tune-up" by Paul Anthony. This article explained a lot to me and really emphasized the importance of keeping your tablesaw (and other tools) properly adjusted. He explained the many components of a tool that can be checked/calibrated using a dial indicator. I assumed throughout the article that he was probably using some $300 model that would forever be out of my reach. Imagine my surprise when he revealed that he was using the Grizzly dial indicator with magnetic base attachment, and that these items are precise and affordable on every budget!

Now for my review: Grizzly shipped my order in their usual speedy fashion and I have to say I am well pleased with this purchase. Once you hold this tool in your hands you understand that it is good quality without being frilly. The construction seems perfectly adequate, and my tests show this gauge to be quite precise as well. Within minutes after setting up my dial indicator I was able to determine that the aging blade on my tablesaw was no longer flat and needed to be replaced.

All in all, this is a smart buy that will allow you to fine tune your tools and check precise calibrations without hurting your pocketbook one bit.

(More customer reviews)I was ready to return this until I finally figured out that you have to spin the nut at the top of the 'snake arm' to adjust the length of its internal cable before turning the clamp arm at its base (because it is a slightly different length depending on how it is positioned).

NOTE: there are NO MANUALS at all with any of the three items that come with this!!!

Its not too complicated once you figure it all out, but it too me a while.

The snake arm thing seems like it holds quite well.I saw the reviews for the regular straight arm indicator holders complained of breaking plastic wing nuts so I thought I'd get this one and am glad I did.

The set of tips are ok but don't seem like I will probably use them except the one angled one.I was hoping one of the tips would have a wheel but none do.

The magnetic base is typical 'chinese cheep' but functional.It sticks well to thick metal but not to thin / curved metal (like the body of a car).

The dial indicator is quite smooth in its operation.I don't see any way to adjust or zero it (but I don't know if a good indicator would have this either).There is a button thing on the indicator that I can't figure out what it is for (I can unscrew it, but it is not a replacement tip).

(More customer reviews)This is a great item for anyone with a router table.I recommend it highly.My only problem was that my router lift was more rounded where it had to be attached so that it could work properly.I think including another piece for those of us with rounded router lifts would be a great addition and perhaps even 2 or 3 different sizes too.Secondly, the drill bit for setting the screws to hold the mount breaks all to easily for me.I found that the router lift and/or the router plate (backside)especially when it is a very hard plastic do NOT drill out well.In fact, I broke the drill bit and had to spend several minutes removing it.Then the screw broke in the hole I had drilled.I guess that I did not go deep enough and in trying to tighten the screw into the plastic I overtightened it and it broke.So, I had to drill out the screw with a larger drill bit and replace it with a somewhat larger screw.A lot of work, but in the end I love it and so does everyone who sees it in my shop.Buy it you will be happy, but be careful on the install...Good Luck

(More customer reviews)In trying to get cabinet face frames to fit closely to a wall, you'll need to scribe an edge of your piece.Norm Abrams showed us that time and time again.But where do you get a good compass to do that?

Look no further.This compass was made for this purpose, and it fits the bill admirably.I've tried the cheap stamped compasses that we all used in grade school geometry, and they'll always slip.I bought a good quality locking compass used by draftsmen, but the knob that holds the lead (and they don't take pencils) pushed the point away from the wall, making it worthless.I did borrow a good compass once from a friend that did do the trick.It was the Stanley 41-017, but it is no longer manufactured.(I am only including the manufacturer and number here in case someone does a search for it and can find this as a replacement.)In fact, I think that this compass is superior - it holds pencils better, is heavier steel and can scribe a bigger distance.

This is a serious compass, heavy steel.I think that it was made for woodcarvers, but it is perfect for scribing.No obstructions on the side with the point, and the sleeve on the other side is designed to hold a pencil firmly.The knurled knob locks the arms firmly in place.

A lot of review for a simple tool, I know, but it shouldn't be this hard to find a compass that gets it right.I'm glad this one did.

The only issue I had was having to calibrate them to be more accurate.I guess that's to be expected with shipping this type of item, though.I've used these micrometers to build my 402 big block engine and haven"t had any problems.

(More customer reviews)I got a pair of these calipers for those times when I have guests over at my shop.They have the virtue of being cheap and light weight.The lack of a locking screw makes holding a measurement difficult, and two decimal place accuracy means you can be off a few thousands either way due to rounding. For quality work, you will need to spend a whole lot more - my Central calipers were well over $ 100 and are considerably more accurate and feel better.These will get the job done if you are looking for an inexpensive alternative for woodworking, model work or similar, but I would not recommend them for precision layout.When the units arrived, the battery was dead in both, but since a spare was provided for each that was not a major issue.If not for the price, I would have given this tool two to three stars, but it does offer good value for the money.
