A latest research has revealed a link between common sexual
transmitted diseases (
STD) and prostrate cancer in men. The study was
done by Harvard School of Public Health and Brigham and Women’s
research Hospital, which claimed that the sexual infection
trichomonas is associated with increased risk of deadly
prostrate cancer.
Men usually suffer from prostrate cancer the most and are most
common form of cancer in men in Western Countries. The risk
factors for prostrate cancer need to be identified to determine
how to reduce count of the disease. One of the main risk factor
is inflammation which is important for the progress of
prostrate cancer in men. The reason for inflammation is still
not found, but researchers estimate that trichomonas vaginalis
attack the prostrate due to which inflammation occurs. This
sexual infection is said to affect 174 million people in the
world per year and is one of the most common form of sexual
infection.
The problem with this
STD is that most people may not know they are
infected, because it doesn’t show any symptoms.
Various researches have been done to assess the link between
prostrate cancer and trichomonas vaginalis. A study was
conducted on 673 men suffering from prostrate cancer by testing
their blood samples and comparing the infection status with
those who have not diagnosed with prostrate cancer. The output
showed that trichomonas vaginalis can be linked to more than 2
times increase of the prostrate cancer at the advanced stage
and 3 times increase of prostrate cancer that leads to
death.

Gonorrhea is heading towards the next Superbug as it is
increasingly becoming resistant to antibiotics. This is surely a
concern as latest report suggests that gonorrhea treatment is
becoming tougher since the bacterium is becoming more resistant
to certain drugs. It is estimated that
Neisseria gonorrhoeae type is more likely to
get resistant to all STD treatment methods.
Gonorrhea is one of the most
popular and widespread sexual diseases, and if left untreated can
lead to ectopic pregnancy, infertility and pelvic inflammatory
disease in women. STD treatment for this disease include single dose
of antibiotics, cefixime or ceftriaxone.
Selection of proper
antibiotic would become difficult for treatment as the organism
has much resistance for any drug to eliminate. Earlier penicillin
was used for this STD treatment but it is no longer valid and
additional agents are used for treatment. The bacteria causing
gonorrhea is capable of adapting any situation that’s why it has
become so resistant.
Drugs used currently,
cefixime or ceftriaxone
are much more effective and
stronger than previous ones used to fight the disease; however
cefixime to some extent is unable to provide proper result. A
time will come when the two popular drugs will no longer able to
control growth of the disease.
STDs like gonorrhea are
evolving to become more resistant, so it’s vital that treatments
and drugs need to be modified to heal the infection. Dosage for
drugs could also be increased to make it more effective on the
bacteria.

The incurable form of gonorrhea, the next super bug is arriving
soon. The disease is increasingly becoming resistant to drugs,
which was once eliminated with penicillin. Soon a time will come
when this disease can’t be killed by any antibiotic.
The disease has transformed much during these years and medications
have become less effective than before. Some of the strains causing
gonorrhea are ineffective to various drugs used for treatment of
this disease.
The problem though in its initial phase may achieve a gigantic
proportion, so something must be done to eliminate the problem.
Experts study suggests that gonorrhea is the second most common
sexual transmitted disease (STD) in United
States. 336,742 cases of gonorrhea were reported in 2008,
According to Centers For Disease Control and Prevention the number
jumped to 700,000 cases this year, much higher than previous
year.
Various factors lead to the problem, such as undiagnosed cases or
improper treatment of the disease which can result in other health
problems. Teenage girls in the age group of 15 and 19 are more
likely to suffer from this disease, if they do not undergo
treatment at right time that leads to infertility, pelvic
inflammatory disease or ectopic pregnancies. People who have
gonorrhea must have treatment if detected early; otherwise patient
is more likely to get infected with deadly
HIV. Sometimes children born with infection
acquired from infected mothers. So it is essential that one should
be serious about undergoing treatment of gonorrhea.
