My Big Fat Gypsy….Prom

Yep, that’s right. It’s not just gypsy weddings that have incredible dresses; its proms too! The new series of My Big Fat Gypsy weddings is due back on Channel Four soon and this season will be featuring proms too. As any self-respecting MBFGW fan will know not all gypsy girl’s stay in school until they’re 16, which is why we probably don’t see more scenes like this each June:

Looks like Brian's date for prom was a real knock out.

Wowzer. We don’t think we’ll be selling dresses on this massive scale any time soon. Baring in mind how much they weigh, the delivery would probably cost as much as the dress ;-)

Disney Prom Movie Trailer

OMG. This is going to be huge.

Hot on the heels of HSM, Disney has just released a trailer for its next sure-to-be-blockbuster movie franchise ‘Prom’.

‘Prom’ will centre around the lives of a group of American high-schoolers in the months leading up to prom. And unsuprisingly the film’s writers have been able to find enough drama to fill out a full feature-length movie.

Disney has decided to cast mostly unknowns for Prom although you may recognise Yin Chang (Gossip Girl) and Nicolas Braun (10 Things I Hate About You).

While Prom is sure to draw comparisons with HSM (it is after all, set in an American high school) there is one crucial difference; Prom is not a musical

*Gasp*.

Hopefuly this RomCom will at least have enough laughs to make up for it.

While Prom will enevitably be missing the musicality, gloss and effronesque-magnificence of HSM we don’t doubt it will be a hit. After all, Disney + Prom + Prom Dresses. Could anyone ask for more?

Watch the trailer now:

So what do you think: will Prom be as big of hit as HSM?

Extreme Dresses Alert

My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding is back, providing a window into the amazing world of the gypsy wedding. Once again viewers up and down the country have been left stunned (in a gleeful yet judgemental way) at the sheer size of the dresses.

As we discovered during the first programme in 2010, in gypsy circles, the objective of every bride is to have a dress which is bigger, poofier and more outrageous than all of her friends. And as each year passes, the dresses have grown and grown now reaching epic proportions. Let’s just hope prom dresses aren’t heading the same way.

Okay so get ready for it. Here comes a dress from the new programme:

Gypsyweddingdresswithfairylights

Quick. Get her out.

It’s like the dress equivalent of a quicksand. She’s going to dissapear any minute.

Do we detect fairy lights?

Bravo.

Ah well at least it looks easy to walk in.

GypsyWeddingDressesNope. Okay. Maybe not.

It doesn’t get any better going down the aisle either. One of the most classic moments of the 2010 show, was watching one of the brides have to do the ol’ bridal kick step march. If you’ve never had the joy of watching this graceless entrance, it’s where the birde’s skirt is so big & heavy she has to kick the dress forward to make room to take her step. And as you can image. It looks. just. great.

If you’ve missed it so far you can catch up on 4od. Best watched with chocolate and your most judgemental friend.

Katie Perry Electrifies People’s Choice Awards in Neon Dress

Katie Perry scooped up two awards at the People’s choice awards this week wearing this amazing prom dress:

Okay. So maybe we wouldn’t actually wear it. But then we don’t attend many award shows.

Her amazing dress featured ombre died tulle with what looks like an electric blue spatter effect. Our highly trained dress detective tells us it looks like 3D fabric pain has been spattered over the dress.

3D fabric paint. Remember that?

So if you’re after re-creating that look head down to your nearest hobby craft.

Chances are though, you’ll just look like you’ve been paintballing in your prom dress.

Perhaps not then.

Hollywood Style Awards – Best & Worst Dressed

Eek. What is Kate Bosworth wearing?

The Hollywood Style Awards took place last night, drawing an array of celebs on to the red carpet. Unfortunatley not everyone made the grade in the style stakes and we ended up seeing some of the worst dresses we’ve seen for a while.

A usually stylish Kate bosworth drew attention for all the wrong reasons in this bizarre creation. Sure less is more Kate, but this t-shirt-sewn-on-to-a-bedsheet dress is just taking it too far.

Unfortunatley Lea Michele fell into the same looks-like-something-made-from-a-curtain style trap with this unflattering gown:

But just when we thought all hope was gone, there was a glimmer of light. Despite the fashion faux pas going down, Gossip Girl regular Katie Cassidy was on hand to remind us what a decent red carpet dress looks like. Katie took a fashion risk in the right way with her revealing yet classic black lace gown.

1 Lea Michelle – 2 Dresses

Can’t make up your mind which dress to wear to that special occasion? Well it seems neither can Lea Michele, who wowed the crowds with two evening dresses at last night’s Billboard Awards.

Lea was attending the ceremony to receive the first ever Billboard ‘Triple Threat Award’ in recognition of her achievements as a singer, actor and dancer. She started the evening with a demure black dress with long velvet sleeves, but finished the evening in a cream Versace mini dress.

It seems that Lea may have been caught between a show stopping cocktail dress and the more sophisticated black dress for the event, before choosing both. And why not? Lea was clearly in the mood for a celebration.

‘Everybody at Glee — we work really hard, singing and dancing and all of that — I’ve been working for a long time in musical theatre and everything, so this award really just makes me feel so much like hard work is paying off,’ she said.

Being as it was a triple threat award, maybe she should have gone all out and chosen a third gown! That’s a triple best dressed threat right there!

Kate Middleton’s Issa dress is a sell out!

The dress worn by Kate Middleton for the announcement of her engagement to Prince William has been an instant sell out.

The blue dress, £385 by Issa, has flown off the shelves since being seen on the bride-to-be. And it’s hardly suprising, not only is Kate gorgeous, she’s also soon to be a Royal. Who could ask for a better model?

The beautifuly cut knee length evening dress was an elegant choice, matching both Kate’s eyes and her saphire engagement ring.

With the announcement of her engagement to Prince William, the style stakes have been raised for Kate. Sales of this dress suggest she’s passed her first test with flying colours.

What does it take to win a pageant?

Ever wondered what it takes to get that sparkling tiara? And more importantly, is it even worthwhile? Rebecca Mitchell was crowned Miss Charity Wiltshire Pageant wearing the Gabriella Prom Dress by Prom Royalty so we asked her for her thoughts.

Rebecca is a true pro and she very kindly agreed to share not only her thoughts on the process, but also her top tips for pageant success.

Top Tips for Pageant Success

by Rebecca Mitchell

Entering a pageant is a daunting thing and most girls try to avoid being scrutinised for their looks and personality. If you are one of the minority who has decided to give it a go, then good on you! Pageants are not all about beauty but about charm and character. They make you feel fantastic and I see it as an excuse to be pampered and make new friends.

My first pageant was when I entered the Miss England Pageant in the Miss Wiltshire heat. This involved a live show in front of hundreds of people and 5 judges (including the previous Miss England) in a nightclub. We had 2 rounds; a club wear round and a ball dress round.

alt

My first thought was ‘what on earth am I going to wear for the club wear section?’ and ‘What are all of the other girls going to wear?’ But the truth is. It doesn’t matter what the other girls will be wearing and generally, it doesn’t matter what you wear.

When choosing what to wear, pick something stylish that will flatter your figure. Judges don’t want to see anything too short or too tight. Go for a colour or pattern that represents you, as the main questions you will be asked is: ‘How does your outfit represent you?’ or ‘what made you pick your outfit?’

Whatever you wear, just walk with pride and think in your head ‘I know I look good!’ and the judges will be thinking the same.

Ball dresses for Pageants are tricky to get right. You don’t want one too big, too small, too revealing, too plain… The list is endless. The most important thing of all is that you feel comfortable in it.

If you feel good, then you quite frankly look good!!!

My thought for the day is ‘Pageants are pushing vulnerable girls into the limelight, but bringing confident young ladies out of it.’

These tips are a guidance as to what I recommend doing in the build up to a Pageant.

Follow them… They helped me win Miss Charity Wiltshire!

1.     Make sure you sure wearing something comfortable – The judges will be able to tell if you are not 100% happy with what you’re wearing.

2.     Make sure you eat lots of fruit and veg and drink plenty of water leading up to the event – This way your skin will be glowing and any unwanted spots will be rid of!

3.     Get a good night’s sleep the night before. Bags and groggy throats are not the top thing the judges will be looking for!

4.      Practice what you are going to say to the judges and go through every possible question they could ask you. This way, you will have an answer for everything.

5.     Finally, be confident. You have as much chance as every other girl stood next to you. Confidence is the key to success.

Good luck!
