With the popularization of computers and the handling of hardware
components, it is very common to find users setting up their
computers and give them their own maintenance. However, working
with computer hardware will usually causes problems, not
necessarily in the physical installation of the components, but in
finding the correct driver for that particular card to work
properly.
Unlike what it seems,
Driver
Sweeper does not help to install drivers, but it is useful
to eliminate drivers you installed incorrectly. The application is
very simple and completely free, factors that make it a good choice
to help in the maintenance of operating systems.

Why should I remove the unused drivers?
There are several reasons for this, starting with the slow computer
performance, which can occur when you install multiple cards in one
computer. Besides the slow problem, drivers can cause many
conflicts. Driver conflicts are probably the biggest inconveniences
that a user can have, as some drives interfere with the functioning
of other, leading to the malfunction of certain components.
Another common problem is the incompatibility, which occurs when
they are still installing any component. Many drivers are developed
for other
versions of Windows and if you try to use one of
them is likely to display a notice indicating the lack of
compatibility. To solve part of the problem is simple, just use
Driver Sweeper.
Using Driver Sweeper is relatively simple, because the program
works almost automatically. In the first application window you see
some drivers that are common (ATI, Nvidia, Creative, Microsoft and
Realtek). To find them, simply click on the "Analyse" and wait
while the program searches for unwanted drivers.
After locating the drivers, Driver Sweeper displays a list of all
items found for removing. If you have confidence that any driver
from the list works, or is not considered as useless and want to
keep it on your computer, uncheck this item to not be removed.
Finally, you need to click on "Clean", for the program to delete
these drivers.
Driver Sweeper is a very useful program to make your computer
faster and without much "debris" that may cause incompatibility.
The program ceases to be a little interesting by the fact of not
having a large database, which could greatly facilitate the life of
the user to remove unused drivers.
The program design is not very well done, but should not bother one
bit of that aspect. It is worth mentioning that if you remove a
driver incorrectly, Driver Sweeper provides backup function that
lets you restore the drivers you want.
Driver Sweeper is recommended for all users who are concerned with
the performance of the computer or who fail to install a particular
piece of hardware in the system. The application does not work
miracles, but it certainly can be useful in many cases.

In this era of information technology, life without the Internet is
almost unimaginable. The number of people logging online is
increasing at an unprecedented pace. In view of this
ever-increasing traffic on the Internet, newer ways have been
designed and developed to expedite access to the web.
High Speed Internet or Broadband Internet is the way
to go these days especially if you use the World Wide Web on a
daily basis. In fact, many who have switched from dial up to a high
speed connection have sworn that they will never go back to the
days of the old method.
There are different Internet access services which ensure fast
access at very economical prices. These services are extremely
user-friendly, and the technology is available in different
variations to suit different purposes.
To find the best deal you must compare several providers. The best
place to do your search on

Go ahead and click on that intriguing ad. Do it. The only thing you
will get is a barrage of windows popping up faster than you can
click them off. Every time you try to do a search, you will be
whisked away to an adverting land instead. Worse, you could be led
to several sites you truly wish you and your kids had never seen,
including porn.
What you will get with your free
software download is tons of unwelcome guests. Your
computer will crawl and every move you make you will be tracked.
Welcome to spyware and adware land. You will never have just one
file in your system. They like to come in huge packets that can
have up to 36 files or more.
This is why they are so hard to get rid of. You think you found all
the files in your computer. Well, guess what? There are several
more under a different name that will now rebuild all the ones you
deleted. These mostly annoying and sometimes hazardous pests love
to weave their magic.
So now that you know you have this stuff in your computer, what is
spyware and adware and what does it do? You want to know how
harmful it can be and what to do to avoid it when possible. There
is a lot of debate among security experts over the exact definition
of it. Most spyware has the same type of characteristics, which is
that it is an information gathering software that invades your
computer sometimes even with out you knowing.
It runs in the background of your other programs and gathers
information and monitors your activity. It transfers that
information to another cyber destination that uses it to annoy you.
Most of this information is harmless and just tells someone how you
use your computer and where you tend to browse on the web. There
are forms of spyware that can easily get your personal information
such as user names and passwords and credit card numbers. This type
of spyware can be very dangerous to the infected.
Adware is different than spyware in one major area. It still runs
undetected and in the background, but it focuses on papering you
with advertisements. Pop-up windows will appear for no reason all
the time, trying to make you buy or claim something. Once clicked
on, they will bring you to a web site so you can purchase said
product or service.
These are usually legitimate products and the adware is just
annoying and not dangerous. The ads might even be of things you are
interested in. this is because the software monitored what you look
for on the Internet. This way the company can send pop-ups that you
will actually click on. Every time you do so, they get credit for
whatever you decide to buy, so some could see this as a good thing.
Others find this a breech of privacy and very annoying. Not to
mention, it is disturbing that a company has gathered information
based on where you browse and is now force-feeding ads to you.
If a program installs itself on your computer without your
permission to get your private information, then it is spyware. If
the program’s purpose is to show you countless and endless ads or
bring you to commercial sites, it is adware. You can call the
program whatever you like because what really matters is: Do you
want it on your computer?
While most of it is completely harmless and at is worst, maddening,
there are those programs that are more risky. There is no way to
tell which ones are safe, so to speak, and which ones are not. Some
of these can be intercepting your e-mails or instant messages. If
someone can decipher all your keystrokes and gain access to
pertinent information, you could be targeted for identity theft or
fraud.
There are even clever companies who will say you are downloading
anti-spyware and the program itself is spyware. It is very
important to get rid of these unwanted programs. If they are
slowing down your computer’s speed, you could be losing money for
yourself or someone else. All you need to do is to use a good
anti-virus or anti-spyware program and run it often. This will keep
unwanted visitors off and out of your business.

Few years back, we never really imagined how memory storage would
evolve into flash cards we know today. It is ever harder to believe
that the tiny rectangular piece of plastic could store thousands of
pictures, hundreds of songs, and even movies. Remember few years
ago when storing files could mean we have to settle for 3.5” and
the outrageously large 5.25”? You know what I mean right? Those we
have thought the future of memory storage- the floppy disks? With
the amazing capacity to store as much as 1.44 MB of files, these
floppy disks are really works of
technology.
But as we all know technology would not stop to evolve. This is the
reason why floppy disks are now the thing of the past. And as the
years go by, we have received memory storage cards that are as size
of post stamps. We even amaze old folks when we remove in from of
them those tiny card out from digital cameras, cellular phones, and
computers.
One of the earlier flash cards have the memory capacity not far
from floppy drives. 2 MB is enough considering you have the
reference point of 1.44MB. Shortly, the 4 MB came out. From then
on, several more powerful, smaller, and larger storage flash cards
came out. The 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128 MB came out. Up to now, the
128 MB flash cards are still being used although much higher memory
cards are now in the market.
Today, several digital devices are using 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, and even
8 GB and 16 GB flash cards. Those are the capacity of hard drives
just year ago. While hard drives are as size of car stereo cut in
half, flash cards can fit to your pocket just like having a penny.
The benefits of flash cards could be seen more popularly on digital
cameras where they can sit peacefully to the camera’s size. How
about computers? Computers still use hard drives to store memory.
And if you want some portable drives, the flash memory sticks are
used. Like flash cards, they are small with large amount of memory
capacity.
You might wonder how can a single tiny card hold such large files.
Let us put it this way: your file cabinet could only store limited
amount of files. And large cabinets are big. Big if you are going
to store all these filed digitally, meaning using electronic codes,
you can store as much files in one tiny storage just like the flash
card. Another reason is that flash cards have removed unnecessary
components that could enlarge the size of the card.
There are several types of flash cards used today particulry on
digital cameras. These came in different sizes depending on the
device it is designed to fit in. Here are several types of flash
cards used: MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick (MS), CompactFlash
(CF), Secure Digital (SD), SmartMedia (SM) and xD-Picture Card
(xD).
The sizes also depend on the capacity of the flash card against one
another. But the bottom line is, flash cards, no matter what the
size is, still carry significantly large amount of files in one
tiny square-shaped plastic card. Who knows, in the future we might
se 80 GB flash drives that can record and store several hours of
video.

Why should you consider switching over to a satellite TV since you
already have a cable TV? People today are looking for high-quality
entertainment that is specially packaged to suit their interests,
all at a low price. In fact, satellite TV business is becoming such
a big success in the market since consumer pay less to get more. So
why not invest in one?
Satellite TV holds a great advantage over the cable TV companies.
Not only is the picture and sound quality superior, but there’s
more choice in what to watch. Satellite technology allows the
viewer to receiver more than 130 channels on their home television,
which is far more than cable TV has to offers.
Pricing is a big seller for satellite companies. With similar or
lower rates than cable competitors, most satellite companies like
Direct TV
offer more content than you'll find anywhere else. Especially in
the sports sector, but including news, movies and shows in general,
a satellite package will offer amazing saving as compared to cable
subscribers.
Easy installation with minimum maintenance, less complications and
outstanding customer service have been the building blocks of
satellite's reputation. Factor in the simplicity of your
maintenance of your dish, which hardly requires any work on your
behalf, and the consolidation of the providers system in a few up
link dishes, and you begin to understand why satellite is a more
promising technology.
If you have decided to buy, where do you get it? I would recommend
purchasing your satellite TV from
DirectTV.com. Why?
It's because you may reap even more rewards from
direct satellite
tv who will offer freebies, great packages and fabulous
discount.

People read e-mail everyday. Many people also have multiple e-mail
account. To make it easy, we can use email program like Microsoft
Outlook Express to read all the email on multiple account. Did you
know, email message created by Microsoft's email program and saved
as files will have the MSG file extension.
The
file
extension MSG files are actually email messages that were
encoded with MSG extension that Outlook can read. Generally this
extension can be found on computers running Windows operating
systems.
File
extension MSG file contains data such as name id, attachment,
recipient, sender, body of the message and others. Some parts of
the file are encoded in binary and others are in ASCII. This MSG
file can also be sent over the Internet to allow a recipient to
download the file and open it with a designated software
application.
Once Outlook is used to send emails, it generates files with MSG
extension.
File extension MSG files can be opened with
applications such DFVIEW.EXE, but may not contain comprehensible
email message. Applications supporting this file include
Outlookfiller, OutlookEML, MSGconverter and OpenOffice.

As far as you know CD and DVD duplication require just a couple of
things; a computer with a burner, CD-Rs or DVD-Rs, and the proper
software. Recently CD’s and DVD’s have become very cheap, both in
respect to the disposable media and the burning hardware. Buying a
CD or DVD burner has become an affordable solution to making
back-ups and a lot more.
CD media and burners have been around for a very long time. They
have become very affordable for many.
Blank CD-R for CD
burners are either 650MB or 700MB in size, a lot smaller than that
of a DVD disc. CD burners have dropped dramatically in price. So
much so that they have become an absolute standard for any new
computer. Some computers have multiple CD burners to make burning
multiple copies of data a lot easier.
DVD-R media and burners were released a while after
CD’s. They cost more than CD’s but also offer better features such
as 4.7gb of storage space and compatibility with DVD players. DVD
burners and media cost more than CD’s but the price gap is slowly
closing. Most new computer will have DVD burners or at the very
least DVD readers.
Although CD burners are somewhat slower than today’s DVD burners
they do have more pros than con’s when comparing to a DVD burner
for data back-ups. CD-R disc can either hold data or audio and can
be read in almost any CD-ROM and if the CD-R is made into an audio
disc then its possible to read the disc in a Hi-Fi or a car CD
Player – you will need to make sure the drive has the ability to
read
CD-R media, most newer models of CD Players are
compatible to read CD-R media.
DVD burners only have the advantage of size of CD burners. Now that
DVD burners are becoming more and more popular, the prices of CD
burners and media are dropping dramatically making them a very cost
effective purchase.

I’m sure you have heard this from a friend before, even some of
your computer literate friends; but what I want to warn you of is
that this is a dangerous question to be asking. You for sure know
about viruses and that anyone today is vulnerable to them if they
haven’t taken appropriate efforts to protect themselves, but other
than that you don’t really know what is out there and how to really
protect yourself properly. In the next few paragraphs I want to
tell you some critical information to save you lots of time and
money and tears.
So viruses are, just like their biological counterpart, parasites
in that they use a host to exist and more importantly to replicate.
A virus is made up of computer code that is written in such a way
as to insert itself into existing code of (most often) an
executable file that already exists on the host computer. It uses
the internet mostly to travel but can and has been transferred by
removable forms of media like floppy disks, smart cards, etc. Like
viruses, worms use the computer as a host, but only in order to use
the hardware, as they do not need the host computers software to
replicate. Trojan Horses are another example of malicious software
or malware that use techniques that evade the natural and built up
defenses on a computer. The point is that there is more than just
viruses that you need protection from and not all anti virus
software (especially free anti virus software) provide the
comprehensive coverage that you need.
The sad thing about
free anti virus software is that it lulls
computer users into complacency and they end up as bad or worse off
than when they were virus free. The companies that offer these
freebies are doing it more or less as an advertising ploy, bringing
more traffic to their sales page.
Now there is a caveat to this that I would like to explain and that
is that free anti virus software is better than having nothing at
all. So, if you are too poor to purchase your own security software
package than by all means get it on your computer. However I
seriously doubt that if you are able to purchase a computer you
would not also be able to get anti virus protection. Consider it
nothing more than a necessary maintenance cost, kind of like
putting oil in your car every once in a while.

File extensions are unnoticed yet are very crucial parts of the
computer world. But many people are still unaware of the basic
foundation and principles behind the it. Let's take a look at what
are file extensions and the important role they play in the world
of computers.
File extensions help computers locate correct application for
specific files. Operating systems will not look into the content of
the files to be opened, but instead, it will immediate locate the
file extension of the file and locate for associated
application that can render the files. This helps the computer to
organize its functions and work much faster. Most operating systems
like Windows require the use of
file
extension, but some do not like Unix.
These file extensions are also beneficial for us. By simply looking
at the filename, we can determine what type of information is
stored to that and what applications can open these files. Have you
noticed that when your computer acquires an unknown file, it will
ask your permission to look for associated program to open it or
look for these programs over the Internet? These file extensions
make the work of the computer easy. Once there is no application
associated with the file, then the computer will immediately ask
the users assistance to help look for the source files.
Without
file extension, some operating systems will be
having problems in recognizing and organizing files. This is how
important these file extensions are. In simple words, file
extensions are the connectors of a specific file to an application
that can render the file.

One of the fun parts of owning a computer is, of course, access to
the Internet. The worldwide web is chock full of useful
information, readily available at your fingertips! It is also home
to potentially lethal viruses, many of which can wreak havoc on
your system within moments. The following four programs can help
you avoid trouble; best of all they are absolutely free.
Firefox – a web browser for the ages.
Okay, a web browser that beats
Internet Explorer by
preventing pop ups and harmful scripts from being downloaded to
your computer. Lots of nifty features too, including tabbed
browsing, live bookmarks, and tons of add-on features.
Spybot Search and Destroy – gets rid of adware, spyware, and
malware. Blocks the installation of spyware before it occurs; works
in conjunction with antivirus software, not as a replacement for
one.
AVG Antivirus – offers basic antivirus protection including
scanning email attachments for viruses and scanning of all hard
drives, removable drives, and external drives on your computer. A
paid version does some additional tasks and includes technical
support.
Zone Alarm – if you don’t have a firewall
installed on your computer, you are opening yourself up to
potential catastrophic security breaches. With Stealth Mode enabled
you can search the Internet in private, away from the intruding
eyes of those who might want to steal your important
information.
As with many
freeware programs, “pro” or professional
versions of the software are sometimes available to give computer
users a maximum amount of protection, for a price. Still, all four
of these programs have something to offer and are worth exploring.
Your computer safety and privacy is essential, insure it today by
downloading the programs that are right for you.

Pocket PCs are small devices but is very powerful that it holds
almost all of your activities, personal information, and business
matters inside its bin. For executives and aficionados, Pocket PCs
are already part of their lives. They can’t leave the house without
their most priced Pocket PCs. Connecting to the web or checking an
email are just one of the many wonders of Pocket PCs. With all
these, have you ever considered the security of your
Pocket PC?
Convenience equates to risk. Admit it. A Pocket PC is one very
convenient way of connecting to the world without just a click of a
button. It offers more possibilities attached with convenience.
Although, these added conveniences puts an owner at risk. In
addition to security problems and threats that you have to face
regarding your desktop computer, you can have the same problem with
your wireless device through networking.
The smaller the size of your device, the easier it is for your
Pocket PC to become more vulnerable to the naked eye – stealing it
or file corruption. You have to protect your device in three
security levels namely: network, data and physical.
Network security refers to the assurance that the device will not
fall into the wrong hands and other people won’t be able to use it
to tap into your network. To avoid such internal problems, you have
to take some steps in protecting your entire network by considering
some of the factors below.
- Disabling WiFi and Bluetooth connection when not in use. This
is helpful in saving your device from unwanted outside
connections, increasing the life of the battery and stabilizes
further security.
- Use notification and monitoring programs to track and detect
hidden activities done in your Pocket PC.
- Administrators must establish a governed policy for the
hand-held device that will connect to the network.
- Always update your LAN driver in order to use the WPA or WiFi
Protected Access instead of using WEP.
- Use private networking virtually to be able to connect to
your company network.
Data security refers to the assurance of the device to be safe
in case it falls to the wrong, prying hands. Even if the OS is
accessed, you’ll have the feeling that your business and personal
data will not be accessed. Managing this can be easy by doing the
following:
- Store your sensitive data on your memory card then remove it
when not in use. Make sure that the memory card itself doesn’t
get lost.
- Don’t allow any access to applications that might be used to
read important data. Use a software like PDA Defense.
- Always see to it that sensitive data are encrypted wherever
it is stored.
Physical security refers to the protection of the device from
theft or loss and prevents OS accessibility in cases of the device
falling into other people’s hands. This is also considered as your
first line of defense.
- Store and carry the device securely. Never let your hand-held
device just hang around your pocket or kept inside a shoulder
bag. It’s better to keep it very close to the body as possible or
if not, put it in a briefcase that’s also secured with a pin
number or attach a PDA case to your belt.
- Prevent OS accessibility. You can at least put on a password
or security pin code before opening the device. Use a very strong
supported password.
