Summary: Catholic Bible Versions

Catholic Bible Versions

Are Catholics and Protestants both gambling that their bible versions are the true word of a god?

Both the Catholics and Protestants emphatically claim their bibles are the true word of a god but both versions of the bible are different. Not a lot different but the Catholic bible has seven more books than the Protestant bible. So this means that the Protestants are gambling that their god won’t mind them taking seven books out when they made their version of the bible and the Catholics are gambling that their god thinks those seven books are necessary; so these are two directly contradicting belief scenarios, right? If one is right then the other can only be wrong?

What you fail to understand Desiree is that the Bible is about the Church the Church is not about the Bible. The fullness of teaching remains within the Church and not from a book that gets its only authority from the Church. The Church did just fine for 400 years without a Canon of Scriptures. Jesus never taught us to write Scriptures or to canonize the Bible but it was done to combat heresy and quantify inspired writings. It was the teaching authority of the Church that decided that the Bible would be helpful for teaching when studied and understood within the community of the Church that produced it. God bless! In Christ fr. Joseph
