How to Speed Up Metabolism

How to Speed Up Metabolism

Need to speed up your metabolism quickly? Over the 6 years I’ve been struggling to lose the tire around my stomach, I went from one of those poor saps looking for a magic bullet to finally figuring out how to effectively burn fat throughout the WHOLE day – and it all came down to keeping my metabolism rate high all day long! So how did I do it?

alt

Below are the 5 steps that you need to speed up your metabolism rate quickly. I use them daily, and I recommend copying them down and start living by them – you’ll be amazed how quickly the rolls start to fall off your bones when you incorporate these steps into your daily lifestyle. I also included a superfood I love that burns up to an extra pound of fat per week just because you eat it while adding flavour to dull meals :)

First, the 4 steps you can start taking today to speed up your metabolism significantly by next week!

#1- Understand how your metabolism works.
To understand how your metabolism works, you just have to know what it really is. Your metabolism is the amount of energy or calories that your body burns to maintain its vital functions throughout the day. Not just when you’re exercising either – but when you’re shopping, sleeping, even as you’re sitting reading these steps now, your body is burning calories to maintain itself!

The metabolic rate depends on your body composition. Muscle requires more energy to maintain itself daily than fat does, so the more muscle you have, the higher your usual metabolism is!

Your metabolic rate can be manipulated based on how often you eat, the FOODS you eat, and your exercise (hint: cardio isn’t the best way to lose fat) – so now that you understand what metabolism is, here’s how you’re going to boost it!

#2 – Stop starving and start eating 5 – 6 meals EVERY day.
If you’re confused, our old friend Mr. Science explains the logic behind this.

When you eat food, your metabolism rises in response to the food to break it down into nutrients usable by the body. By eating 5-6 meals throughout your day – you basically fool your body into a CONSTANT fat burning state for throughout the day! And whenever it burns off your daily eaten calories – it moves on to your fat reserves, which when you finally start seeing the inches burning off your waist.

The myth that eating throughout the day is bad started BECAUSE people usually snack on total crap 99% of the time. Chocolate, donuts and chips. If people started eating that 5-6 times a day instead of just 1-2, health problems would rise very quickly.

Therefore, you have to watch what you’re putting into your 5-6 daily meals. If you can part with Twinkies, the benefits are a faster metabolism rate and never feeling hungry throughout the day! A great trade-off – in my opinion!

#3 – Eat HEALTHY Fats And Plenty Of Protein!

altYou’re probably thinking, “Oh no, here she goes again telling me something totally ridiculous like eating fat helps raise my metabolism,” - but Mr. Science is here to save the day yet again!

You’ve probably already stumbled upon the terms “good fats” and “bad fats”. Well, the good fats (Omega 3-6-9 fatty acids) that come from fish, eggs, milk and nuts regulate the levels of a hormone called leptin, which is directly responsible for the speed of your metabolism rate and the point at which your body starts to store calories as fat. This means the more healthy fats you eat – the higher your metabolism will stay at!

If you hate fish like I do, there are plenty of alternatives, you can even get it in capsule form! (Though I don’t recommend capsules, whole foods have the antioxidants you’d miss if you only took pills)
If you’ve ever heard of the Atkins diet, that’s what it’s based off. Now, I don’t recommend that you start making bacon, eggs and steak 100% of your daily diet – but studies prove that adding an extra 20% of protein to your diet directly results in an extra 5% higher fat burn right away… so you have a choice between burning MORE fat and enjoying steak and pork chops, or GAINING fat from a disgusting processed pizza. An easy choice, if you ask me!And as far as protein goes – your body spends more energy digesting and converting it than carbs or fats. American nutritional journals have shown that you burn TWICE the calories digesting protein than fats or carbs.

#4 – Exercise Is Important, But Cardio Is For Suckers!
Whether it’s swimming, running, biking or walking, cardio does speed up your metabolism rate for HOURS after you finish – and I can’t argue with that. But did you know that your metabolism increases for 1-2 DAYS after a weight training workout?

altThis is true because your body maintains the elevated metabolic rate during the recovery period your muscles go through after the trauma from the weight lifting – which generally takes 24-48 hours. This means that if you hate cardio – you can easily eliminate it by combining proper whole/unprocessed foods with 3-4 weekly 45 minute weight lifting sessions!

Finally – Here’s the fat-destroying superfood I love to eat!

Ready to learn the superfood you can start eating today to burn an extra 300-500 calories every day with no extra work?

The delicious solution is hot peppers! It’s all because of “capsaicin”, the substance that gives peppers their “hotness”. You’ve probably noticed your heart rate increase or felt a little warm the last time you ate something spicy – and studies show that hot peppers (or anything moderately spicy) will raise your metabolism up to 25% for a WHOLE 3 hours!

That means all you have to do to start losing an extra pound of fat per week is to start adding a little spicy hot pepper in with a daily meal. You can test this starting TODAY without any extra effort – and see the improved metabolism results by next week!

Remember to write down and re-read the 4 steps I outlined – I swear making these simple changes to your daily life will yield greater results than anything else you’ve previously tried to speed up your metabolism.

Oh, and if you want to find out what worked for me personally (when you can figure out your “metabolic type”, you can eat perfect foods that literally obliterate fat as you eat them) - Click the video below to see the video that teaches you how to speed up metabolism and burn 10lbs in 2-weeks

How to Boost Metabolism with Solid Diet and Exercise

alt

Burning fat and muscle toning are a couple of common goals for people. You can accomplish these goals by boosting your metabolism. This can be done with a well rounded diet combined with consistent exercise.

Boost Metabolism By Having a Solid Diet

Diet is the first thing you need to factor in. Having a good diet can greatly boost metabolism. When people ask me how I lost so much weight, I always refer them to here because it played such a big factor and it is an amazing resource.

Speed Up Your Metabolism by Doing Some Muscle Toning

If you are a girl, you may be afraid to put on a little bit of muscle because you will look too bulky. However, this is not true. Females do not put on muscles as easily as males do so don’t even worry about it. You need to work out your muscles because muscles actually burn calories for weeks when they are repairing themselves. This greatly helps speed up metabolism. Try working out with weights a few times a week.

Cardio’s Effect on Speeding Up Metabolism

Doing cardio is an important part of speeding up metabolism. There are numerous ways to do cardio so you have your pick at which one you prefer. Do cardio at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes or more. This will boost metabolism and burn off fat because you are keeping your body working hard and expending a lot of energy.

Boost Metabolism By Staying Active

Try to increase your activity throughout the day. Staying active will keep your body burning energy, and allow you to speed up metabolism. For example, instead of lying down and watching TV, you could stand up and fold laundry. I like to park in a far away parking space so I can burn more calories just from that extra little bit of walking. Not to mention, I no longer have to fight for that front spot!

Sleep

You should try to get at least 7 hours a sleep each night. When you sleep, your body gets a chance to repair and recover. It will also help build that lean muscle that will speed up your metabolism. If you are not getting enough sleep, you can actually slow down your metabolism and increase your stress levels.

Metabolism Misunderstandings

altThe term metabolism is often confused with other terms related to health and fitness. I hear people blaming their slow metabolism on their genes quite often. This isn’t true, and I learned first hand. This myth has also been taken advantage of by many weight loss company’s trying to push their products. I would like to clear up some misunderstandings of the word “metabolism.”

There was a commercial the other day that claimed you can take a pill and raise metabolism without the need for proper diet or exercise. They also lied to viewers by saying something like, “You can’t lose weight because you have a slow metabolism. People who are skinny are born with faster metabolisms.” This is complete non-sense and I do feel bad for the people who fall for this.

I have found that this term is quite often misused by weight loss companies in order to sell their products. This is not to say that some fat burners don’t work, but they certainly won’t work without proper regular diet and exercise. Most fat bruners are designed to use fat for energy during workouts instead of muscle tissue, or sugars. I was able to lose my weight without a fat burner. All it took was a lifestlye change that included a proper diet and regular exercise. This allowed me to greatly speed up my metabolism.

Genes do play a role in how fast your metabolism is. However, the reason this is misunderstood is because the differences in metabolic rate is very small from one person to the next. Someone that naturally has a slower metabolism can easily speed it up through the methods I have outline. They can actually speed it up to the point where it is even faster than someone who may naturally have a quicker metabolic rate.

I just wanted to inform people who might think they have become a victim of their slow metabolism. There are many different things you can do to speed up metabolism. You can start by looking at my step by step guide  here: how to speed up metabolism

Your 2011 New Years Resolution

altI know many of you would like to lose some weight this new year’s! I know that was my New Year’s Resolution for quite a few years. It was only a couple of years ago when I finally got serious about it because I was so disgusted with the way I looked. I finally realized that I needed a complete lifestyle change and fitness and diet were top priority.

Here are a few things that helped keep me motivated and on track to accomplish my weight loss goals:

Write down your goals

Writing down my goals where I could see it everyday served as a good reminder of how badly I wanted to lose weight! I recommend you do the same so you can guarantee that you see some results.

Keep Track of Your Progress

I kept track of my progress by taking a picture of my self once per week. It is easy to think that you are not making any progress when you look into the mirror everyday. By taking weekly pictures, I was amazed at how much I progressed. This motivated me even more to keep going!

I also only weighed myself about once per week.

Keep a log of what you’re eating

Keeping track of calories is a good way to prevent yourself in indulging high calorie sweets. Counting calories may seem boring to some, but I think it is a good way to keep motivated.

Browsing the Fitness Related Stuff

When I needed a motivation boost, I went to my favorite fitness message board and just browsed around. Believe it or not, this really helped my motivation a lot! One of the message boards I liked was the bodybuilding forums. They have some excellent advice as well as other people that are trying to accomplish the same goals!

This very site you are on is also a great way to stay motivated. I will be posting more helpful tips for you to read up on so that should help keep you going strong!

I hope everyone has a great new year! Best of luck to all of your goals.

If you have any questions or advice, please feel free to leave a comment below.

Raise Metabolism – Which Vitamins Do You Need?

altOne thing that really helped me raise metabolism was the metabolism boosting foods found in the diet solution. These foods all have the important vitamins that can greatly improve your digestive system and raise metabolism. The good part is that they will also help burn more calories in a short amount of time, even when you’re not exercising! By simply following the right diet that provides all of these vitamins, you will be losing fat in no time!

Here are the vitamins that will raise metabolism:

Vitamin K – Converts glucose from sugar in to glycogen. This will allow food to be used for energy instead of being stored as body fat.

Vitamin H (biotin) – Releases energy from fat

Vitamin B12 – Burns fats, carbs, and proteins and helps relase energy for an immediate metabolism boost.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) – Helps metabolize proteins

Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) – Burns off fat for energy use. Also prevents food from being stored as fat.

Note: All of these vitamins as a whole will raise metabolism greatly. They also help increase the effectivness of your body’s functions. This will lead to more energy and more fat burning!

Vitamin B3 (niacin) – Metabolizes food more quickly and helps speed up your digestive system

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) – helps digest any food

Vitamin B1 (thiamine) – Helps digest carbs. For example, bread and rice

While this all may sound pretty techincal to you, it is actually very simple! All you need to worry about is following a well balanced, healthy diet like the one I followed and you will ensure that you are getting all of these vitamins that I listed.

These are the best vitamins that will raise metabolism because they greatly improve the effeciency of your digestive system and prevent food from being stored as body fat. Just follow a well balanced diet regularly and you will lose the weight in no time! Just be prepared for your friends and family to ask how you did it! ( the reason I made this site! :) )

My Step-By-Step Speed Up Metabolism & Burn Fat Guide

How I Lost All of My Weight – Step-By-Step

Step 1

Get the Diet Solution Guide

The diet solution was the biggest factor that lead to my weight loss. It will show you foods that will actually burn off body fat and increase metabolism. I started the diet solution in December ’07 and lost 50lbs by March ’08. The fat just pretty much fell off. I can almost guarantee you will lose 5-10lbs in the first week alone following this guide.

Get The Diet Solution by Isabel De Los Rios Here

Step 2

Eat 5 to 6 small meals per day

Eating 5 or 6 meals a day will speed up metabolism because your body is contantly working and burning calories by digesting all of the food. Most people eat 3 meals a day and they have a slow metabolism. This is because their is too much time in between meals and your metabolism slows down when there is nothing else to digest. This will lead to your body storing more fat.

So stick to eating every 2-3 hours to increase metabolism. Doing this while following the Diet Solution will tremendously help your fat loss goals.

Step 3

Drink more water

Drinking a good amount of water will speed up metabolism because it allows your body to absorb and transport all of the good nutrients your body needs. I recommend drinking about a gallon of water a day. Carrying arround a water container helps a lot :)

Step 4

High Protein in each meal

The reason you want to have high protein in your meals is because your body takes longer to digest protein. This will help you not feel so hungry all of the time and prevent you from eating large quantities of food. You can refer to your diet solution guide for a good list of all the high protein foods that will speed up metabolism and burn fat :)

Conclusion

Follow these steps consistently and your body will have no choice but to increase metabolism and burn body fat!
Don’t be suprised to see yourself noticeably thinner in 1 week.

I have been overweight for most of my life and It has been an ongoing struggle. I was finally able to be lucky enough to come across something that worked great. It involved eating foods that speed up metabolism and actually burn fat. This technique allowed me to not only lose all the weight, but also keep it off for good! I get asked many times how I was able to lose so much weight. This site was made so I can refer people to it who were in the same boat as I was.
