(More customer reviews)How many pictures
will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital
camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most
difficult to get a straight answer about.Well, considering I worked
in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this
perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed
industries.
The Kingston 512MB Secure Digital Card, like most 512MB cards, will
store on average 568 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera,
426 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera,256 pictures when
used with a 4 megapixel camera, 204 images when used with a 5
megapixel camera, and 160 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel
camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are
going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting
available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and
may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors
including the complexity of the scene being shot and the
compression algorithm used by your specific camera.
I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether
this 512MB card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

(More customer reviews)I installed this
unit in my 2009 Subaru WRX. I removed it and returned it after 3
days.
The good:
-It has a good amount of power. I ran this to my stock speakers and
they sounded much, much better than they did with the factory
receiver.
-Good build quality. The physical unit feels well made. Mechanical
flip face works smoothly, buttons and volume dial feel solid.
-It's cheap.
The bad:
-iPod integration is terrible. There is no way to easily scroll
through artists/albums etc. You have to click an arrow to flip
through each individual entry. This is OK if you have a couple
albums on a nano, but not OK if you plan to connect an iPod with a
large library. Finding an artist beginning with 'N' took close to
100 clicks with my full 120GB iPod classic. And if you want to go
from Nelly to Nirvana, you have to start all over from 'A'
again.
-Poor screen resolution. Font edges are jagged.
-No dimmer. It has a dimmer connection wire, but it did not work on
my unit. The screen was at full brightness at all times, and the
manual dimmer control did not work either. At night it was like
having a spotlight in my dash.
-Restarts between sources. Every time you change sources, the
entire unit restarts. Screen shuts off then on and everything. It
doesn't take too long, 3-4 seconds maybe, but it is rather odd and
obnoxious. I took the whole thing out to check for a loose
connection when it first happened. Called Clarion about it and they
said it is normal operation.
-Navigation. The specs list this unit as being compatible with an
optional navigation unit. However, the only input for the
navigation unit is a component video connection. So if you were to
connect navigation, the VX409 would only serve as a monitor, and
you would not have touch screen control of anything.
Overall, the actual physical unit could be quite nice. However the
software feels like going back to using Windows 95.

(More customer reviews)I read all the
other reviews, good and bad before deciding to actually write one
myself. TiVo has its problems, and while I'm tolerant, perhaps
because of my own software engineering background, I can see how
many people might not be.
To summarize my review up front. Despite the problems, TiVo has
changed how I watch TV and my wife, very skeptical and tolerant of
her 'geek' husband is also a total convert. If our TiVo dies,
another one will be on order in 24 hours. We've had our TiVo for
over 2 years and we wouldn't be without it.
Now let's get to the nitty gritty. We have one of the first of the
Series 2 machines with a lifetime subscription and we did in fact
have to exchange it early in it's life. Since then, we've had very
few problems. Here they are.
The problems :
* The machine occasionally locks up and need to be rebooted. How
often? Sometimes several times a week. Others, maybe less than once
every few months.
* The machine occasionally reboots itself without warning. I'm
still not sure if this is deliberate. It's never done it while
recording or playing back a show, but it has done it while I was
watching live TV, which is not necessarily detectable unless I'm
time shifting. Things work great after the reboot, but it's a bit
irritating if I'm time shifting live TV, which honestly is
rare.
* Our first machine's hard drive died. We had decent service
replacing the machine, however we did have to pay S&H. TiVo
could certainly improve here, but the service WAS very
acceptable.
The nits (design issues, IMO) :
* My favorite feature is turned off and hidden. This is setting the
skip to 30 seconds. When watching live TV, hit select, play, select
30, select. This has to be reset every time you restart. I imagine
this is not the default to prevent lawsuits from unhappy networks
because I don't even watch their commercials sped up any more.
* I wish changing the channel didn't flush the 30 minute live TV
buffer.
* I wish the buffer was 60 minutes.
The raves :
* My favorite feature. 30 second commerical skip (see above).
* I virtually never watch live TV any more. Channel surfing is DEAD
in my household. My observation is that many people in other
reviews complained about how slow the channel changing is. I guess
this is true, even with the serial cable, but the whole point of
the TiVo is to NOT have to change channels or watch live TV any
longer.
Seriously, if you're intent on channel surfing, you won't get the
point of a TiVo and it probably isn't for you. My father in law
doesn't get our TiVo and it doesn't make sense for him or anyone
else with a 30 second - 5 minute attention span. A DVR doesn't make
sense for you at all. That doesn't denigrate your TV-watching
style, it just means don't purchase a DVR.
If you're the sort who likes to change channels during the
commcerical (I used to do that), TiVo doesn't make sense unless you
change your habits. I have. I don't watch commercials either.
* I have managed to catch up on all my old TV series using season
pass. This has been easy even when I'm not sure when the shows are
because TiVo finds them on various channels and surfs to record
them for me.
* Wishlists have turned up old hidden 2am gems that I like to watch
occasionally. This is fun.. to catch on old movie or find a show
with a favorite actor or topic.
* I thought at first that I had to watch everything my TiVo
recorded. No way, that isn't the point. The point is to have a
diverse set of wishlist items, season passes, and suggestions from
selected from thumbs up and down information you input over time to
always be able to watch if and when you decide to watch TV. That is
empowering as I now choose what and when to watch.
* We're starting a family soon, and TiVo supports parental
protection based on show ratings. We have it turned off right now,
but when our children get old enough to hold a remote, that will be
turned back on and customized to our preferences. That and we can
skip commercials are powerful tools in our parental toolbox.
* You can network your TiVo and hook it up to your home network for
updated TV listings via network instead of phone line and to play
your family digital photo album on the TV as well as your
collection of MP3's. If you have a stereo hooked up for movies,
this is very nice.
* The user interface is pretty easy to use. Even install, while
involving many steps is about as easy as one can make it given how
many decisions must be made at the user's end (how did you hook it
up? what kind of cable, satellite, etc? what channels do you get?
and so on).
* You can hack your TiVo. There actually are some good reasons to
do this.
1) It's cheap to add more hard disk space if you need it. I should
do this soon.
2) Part of the process involves backing up the hard drive. If
thehard drive in your TiVo dies, this means you have a backup and
may be able to repair your current box (with a lifetime
subscription in my case) instead of purchasing a new one.
3) Some people I know are also able to save video onto their
computer and burn their own dvds. I considered this but decided
against it for now because the quality isn't exciting, and the
legality is questionable (although you can now purchase a TiVo/DVD
burner combo that does the same thing).
Suggestions :
* Seriously consider hacking your TiVo once it's out of warantee at
least to add your own warantee of a backup hard drive, even if you
don't add hours to it. There are services that will do this for you
if you pay them.
Alternatives :
* Replay - I haven't spent much time looking at Replay. Their
approach has caused so many lawsuits, and they've been in and out
of brankruptcy, I decided not to bother. People rave about it
though.
* Ultimate TV - Microsofts offering. My brother-in-law enjoys his,
but it's no longer available. What's out there still works and it
seems to be a nice system.
* MythTV/FreeVo - these are free software systems that you can use
to build your own computer into a TiVo live DVR that incorporate
even more features like computer gaming and so on. I'm very
interested as a software engineer and will probably build one (and
have friends who have done so), but it's more of a hobbiest
approach and you do have to constantly tinker to keep it running in
excellent shape.
Final comments :
I love my TiVo. It has truly empowered me to watch what I want,
when I want, and HOW I want. I don't watch commercials unless I
really want to. TiVo suggestions have showed me that there really
is worthwhile TV to watch (we watch a lot of FoodTV, Discovery,
TLC, DIY, etc. type shows) available... more than I have time to
watch. Thumbs up and thumbs down on various shows have really fine
tuned what the TiVo records as a suggestion (only using available
space).
It definitely has little quicks and problems. I could do without
the occasional hangs and I'm always nervous that the hard drive
might crash. TiVo probably could use better customer service
although I have never had a problem. However, I use a lot of honey
in my interactions with customer service people (I used to work in
tech support) and almost always get better results than the irate
grumpy people I know, even calling the same help lines.
The value has FAR exceeded the cost, IMO. Watching what I want when
I want. Saving 15-20 minutes an hour and 7-10 minutes for half hour
shows by skipping commercials is time I spend on other things.
Watching more shows if I'm lazy, but more usually fixing up things
around the house and getting projects done. Hopefully you will find
the same, but at least you can make the decision informed in as
much detail as I can give in this little space here.

your video card must already support analog signals (the stuff your

(More customer reviews)I bought this
wireless doorbell & intercom with expectations that it would
replace the existing hard wired intercom/doorbell system that I
have attached to my security system.
This item is nothing more than a glorified walkie talkie -- it even
squelches like a walkie talkie. When you push on the doorbell, the
microphone is activated and the chime noise originates from the
doorbell module. The receiving intercom module receives the "Ding
Dong" sound.How cheap!
Almost laffable is the fact that you can't put the doorbell outside
where it might get wet.According to the instructions, the doorbell
module should be kept in a place where there is not excessive
sunlight or moisture.ARE YOU KIDDING ME?I called Westinghouse to
confirm that it wasn't a typo -- to which I received a
recommendation to buy a clear plastic box to keep it in outside OR
-- get this.... put it in a bird house with the button where the
bird would enter!HAHAHA. I swear..that's what the operator
said.

side of the hinges was broken when it arrived. This was fixed after
a little do-it-yourself repair.After installation on a 30 ft eaves,
it supposed to be able to reach up to 300 ft, but after about 150
ft I can hardly see the illumination and the visible area of the

(More customer reviews)Firstly, this
review is being written on the 1.6Ghz, HP2133 Mini Note with 2Gb
RAM and Vista Home Basic (which was installed at the factory). I
have also read the myriad comments in the other reviews about poor
CPU performance and warm operation. Therefore, I'll avoid similar
statements, only to say that I have also noticed these issues under
certain circumstances.
Nevertheless, I have turned off most of the useless bells and
whistles in Vista and customised the OS to work adequately for the
tasks I perform. And what I do isn't necessarily trivial. I have
Office 2007 installed and it works fine to write university
assignments and work reports, etc. Word, with the screen set to
"page width" view is readable and as functional as my desktop. I
also installed Adobe CS3. Yes, it can be slow at times, but it
performs well enough to get the job done (using InDesign, Photoshop
and occasionally, Dreamweaver). However, I understood when I bought
the Mini Note, that it was not designed for multimedia production,
but more for multimedia presentation and for basic computing. It is
NOT a desktop replacement and was never intended to be.
The more I use my 2133, the more I love it. That doesn't mean I
haven't noticed some negative issues (other than those highlighted
in other reviews). I'll outline these below.
I won't comment on the touchpad, because I rarely use it. Most of
the time, I use the Mini Note on a desk or on my briefcase (placed
on my lap), so I plug in a laptop mouse. I would do this with ANY
laptop or notebook. However, the Mini Note does allow for more
space to use a mouse than a conventional laptop. Once I have
finished using the Mini Note, it fits in my briefcase with all my
other stuff.
Talking of placing the Mini Note in a briefcase; I am astonished
that there isn't a case or bag for it. Most laptop bags are too big
and would defeat the purpose of buying the Mini Note. As a result,
I use a cloth bag I got with a mixer tap (faucet) I bought for a
renovation. It is the perfect size to protect against scratches and
marks. This is not to say the nice brushed aluminium (aluminum)
case is susceptible to scratches; it's not, I just like to protect
my equipment.
The Mini Note's screen hinge and battery design prevents any
connectors from being located at the back of the unit (where I'd
like them). Hence, all the connections are on the left and right
sides of the machine. I usually plug the notebook mouse into the
left USB port and run the cable around the back of the Mini Note to
the right side. This keeps the cable out of the way and gives me
more room on the right for the mouse. This is OK if I am working
off the battery. But when the Mini Note is connected to mains
power, the huge power plug that sticks out the right side is quite
annoying and can get in the way of the mouse. HP, take note; please
redesign the next series to have an "L" shaped connector to keep it
out of the way.
Some other reviewers mentioned the lack of battery life. I agree
with this, too. Nevertheless, there are configuration tweaks you
can apply to help maximise battery life. In the BIOS I turn off the
hardware I don't regularly use, such as Bluetooth, LAN, Express
card, web cam, etc. If I need them, I just turn them back on.
Now, the screen; I love it. At 1280x768, it is bright and sharp,
therefore, usable. Yes, it presents some text and menus in tiny
fonts, but at the distances most people would use this machine, the
screen is readable. Most web sites fit within the browser view port
without horizontal scrolling. I'd prefer this over the offerings
from other UMPC manufacturers.
I know I said I wouldn't mention the temperature issues, but, I
feel compelled to state that after an hour or so spent writing this
review (I was distracted by a phone call) the Mini Note is hardly
warmer than the ambient room temperature. Of course, this is just
running Word 2007. But, as far as I am concerned, this is the sort
of thing the Mini Note is designed for; simple productivity
tasks.
Additionally, one reviewer stated that the CPU fan runs flat-out
all the time. He obviously missed the setting in the BIOS that lets
you turn this "feature" off. Normally, the Mini Note runs very
quietly, as is the case with mine right now. Although, I must admit
that twice now, when waking from "sleep" mode, the fan in my Mini
Note seemed to get stuck on full speed. A reboot fixed this, which
implies it is an OS problem, not the hardware.
What would make the Mini Note perfect? OK, a faster CPU would
definitely be welcome. Secondly, the 225mm (8.9") screen is fine;
however, the lid has a lot of wasted real estate. After moving the
speakers, it could accommodate a screen 50mm (2") larger (275mm or
11"). Even at the same resolution, this would make the Mini Note
considerably better.
That seems to sum up all my main thoughts on the Mini Note. But
suffice to say, after another hour using it, I love it even more.
Highly recommended.

HP 2133-KX870AT 8.9 Inch Netbook - 6 Cell
Battery
Product Description:
Small but mighty, the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC offers you a
full-function laptop that weighs just 2.8 pounds. Designed to go
where you go without weighing you down, it's perfect for young
students in your home, and robust enough to handle demanding
business applications for road warriors. Despite its size, it
features an 8.9-inch scratch-resistant display with a WXGA
resolution and a nearly full-size keyboard (92 percent). A durable
all-aluminum case encompasses the top and bottom of the notebook,
while an internal magnesium alloy support structure helps protect
sensitive components from damage.
The HP Mini-Note features a simple, refined design and
anodized aluminum shell that is sleek and sturdy yet lightweight.
See a larger view of all the external ports. It's powered
by the VIA C7-M ULV processor, which provides a 1.6 GHz clock speed
and excellent power management capabilities. Other features include
a 120 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (maximizing capacity),
tri-mode Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11a/b/g), integrated Bluetooth,
lightning quick Gigabit Ethernet, VGA webcam built into the
screen's bezel for video chats, and up to 4.5 hours of battery
life.
It comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows Vista Business, which
has a new user interface, named Windows Aero, that makes it easy to
navigate through the operating system and from application to
application. For instance, Windows Aero helps you juggle multiple
tasks at once by providing a three-dimensional, real-time, animated
view of all your open applications and documents. Vista also
integrates new search tools throughout the operating system,
includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that
can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
Processor: The VIA C7-M ULV (ultra-low voltage) processor
has a 1.6 GHz speed, 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a 128 KB L2
cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a
larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The
FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side
bus will deliver better overall performance.)
Operating at an average power of less than 1W, the VIA C7-M ULV
processor is the embodiment of cool processing and sets the
standard for next generation low power mobile and personal
electronics systems. It also features VIA PowerSaver technology
that further reduces power consumption by dynamically adjusting
the frequency and the voltage of the VIA C7-M ULV processor as
the system requires. This innovative technology can reduce power
consumption by as much as 50 percent while still ensuring
seamless mobile operation.
Hard Drive: The 120 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough
to room to hold a digital audio library of over 20,000 songs and
still have room left over for movies, games, and a large
collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also
quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to
Firewire and USB 2.0. It also includes HP's 3D DriveGuard, which
sends a signal to shut down the hard drive upon sudden movement
or shock by using a three-axis digital accelerometer chip.
Memory: The 2 GB of installed RAM (2 x 1024 MB, PC2-5300)
maximizes the capacity for this PC. It also offers a top-of-class
667 MHz speed.
DVD/CD Drive: The HP 2133 Mini-Note PC does not include an
integrated optical drive, but HP offers optional drives that

output for connecting to an external monitor or projector. Video is
powered by the integrated Via Chrome 9 video/graphics card, and it

via the internal 2-watt stereo speakers.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion

You also get super-fast wired connectivity via the Gigabit Ethernet

(More customer reviews)This idea is a long
time coming. I am using this daily for video on my Pocket PC using
a 4GB SD card. It accepts almost all other cards, although sadly
not Compact Flash for some reason. Consider San Disk makes CF
cards, its a shame it doesn't support them.
The recording quality is about what one would expect. On the small
screen, it is beautiful, plays smoothly, and is easy to configure
for your device. (It will automatically set itself to your device
by simply choosing it from a list, or you can set it manually in
about 5 minutes). Your options include size/resolution; format
(mp4, 3gp, etc); and FPS (15 or 30). I use MP4, 320x240, and 15
FPS. This records about 500+MB per 1 hour of recording. This allows
almost 8 hours of recorded video on my one card.
One tip: I use TCPMP on my device installed to a different SD card.
However, by putting a copy of the TCPMP folder on both cards, I can
swap them out and still see the video recorder to the card without
hassle. Works great!
Back to the video quality, this is NOT a device for recording video
files that look great on your TV. Even at the highest resolution
and 30 FPS, the video on the TV is quite fuzzy. This is only
slightly dissapointing, however, as you don't buy it for your TV -
you buy it for your portable. (If you want something like this for
your TV, get a TiVo already! =)
So in the end, I love this product so far! It installs in minutes
(just a couple of cables to route in your system). From there it
has a rudimentary yet simple system for either recording on the
fly, or setting a schedule to record things later. My 'best
practice' is simply to check the 'satellite' for interesting
shows/movies over night, schedule them, and then in the morning I
have a full card. Simply put the card in the PDA and start
watching!
Finally, it is worth noting that the San Disk site has already
posted a firmware update. It is nice to see they will support and
fix things as the need arises.

with a Swann C510R camera.Ended up not using it - it needs a lens
adapter (found with the Swann Wide Angle lens).
Pros:It fits, fisheye effect as designed when used with adapter
(not included).
Cons:Far too expensive for what it is - a cheap little piece of
plastic. It should be less than ten bucks.Without adapter it is only
good for the smaller non-standard cameras.

great! I recently bought a 1970's home that had only one cable tv
jack in the whole house, nowhere near where I wanted to put a TV.
This thing was very handy while I was crawling aroudn the
crawlspace and attic. It's great for testing those self-done
coaxial cables to make sure they work before you hook up to the
cable company and are ready to watch tv.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this
netbook because of the small size, excellent price, long battery
life, and great customer service that HP is known for.
As far as the computer goes...
The computer itself is very light weight and easy to tote around.
Not too heavy in a purse or bag and the size it great for
concealing what you're carrying, say on a city bus or train.
I'm not a big Winblows fan so I changed the OS to Linux Mint 8 and
that gave me back around 8 or 10GB of space that the old OS was
eating up. There is plenty of room on the hard drive for a
mid-sized music collection, lots of files, and plenty of pictures
with room to spare.
The keyboard is great, but lacks a home key, page up, and page
down. The touch pad gives you the ability to double click or single
click by touch and there is a button on the keyboard for a
right-click action.
The AC adapter is plenty long for most tasks and the battery life
is excellent.
The webcam is fairly low quality but for basic things, such as
using Skype or other conferencing methods, it will do the job.
Speakers and mic are great and produce good quality sound for a
netbook.
Customer Service...
After having the 210-1030nr for only two weeks, my hard drive went
bad. No drops, no spills, no crazy room mates, just went bad. I
called HP customer service and they were excellent! They're sending
me the shipping materials to send the computer back and are footing
the repair bill for me. Great customer service, just like I
expected.
The 210-1030nr would have earned that fifth star had the hard drive
not gone bad on me. I know, however, that this is a rare occasion
for a netbook and sometimes things are not made properly or other
issues occur that are beyond my, or any one else's, control.
This HP has performed very well up until the hiccup with the hard
drive. My boyfriend was very impressed with the machine, despite
his initial aversion to it's small size; he was worried it would be
fragile or flimsy. He will be purchasing one for himself very
soon.

(More customer reviews)Prior to this, I
had thought I had to run a second cable throughout the house to get
both my four modulator channels and the cable TV in all rooms;
either the cable interfered with the modulator channels, or vice
versa, or both. The highest channel on the incoming cable is 89. I
inserted the four modulator channels two channels apart starting
with 100 (that is, 100, 103, 106, and 109). The way to use this
item is to filter before the cable goes into the modulator; just
screw this filter onto the cable TV input to the modulator, connect
the incoming cable TV to it, set your channels above 99, and put
your house cable system directly on the modulator output.
Everything looks great. Picture and sound are clean (including
ProLogic) on all the cable channels, and clean on the four
modulator channels. If that's what you're trying to do, this little
item can save you a lot of money, a lot of hassle, or both.

(More customer reviews)I've had the system
installed for a little over a year now and have given up - it's
just too flaky.
Probably OK if you are at home and can unplug it every once in a
while to force a reboot and re-association with the Z-wave devices,
but just not robust enough if you are away for more than a week or
two. What happens after a while is either a) the gateway doesn't
respond or b) it no longer sees the devices. It would probably help
if one could reboot it remotely via the browser, but that isn't
possible.
When it works it works fine, but the web browser interface is too
limiting and at any one time there is probably a 40-50% probability
that remote control over the web will work.

Magazine, and featuring state-of-the-art Z-Wave wireless mesh
technology, the HomeRemote Pro requires no hard wiring or special
installation, saving you thousands of dollars when compared to
traditional home security and monitoring systems.
This starter kit includes the following components: The HomeRemote
Pro Internet Gateway; HomeRemote Pro Door Sensor; and HomeRemote
Pro Lamp Module.
How the HomeRemote Pro Monitoring System Works
The HomeRemote Monitoring System lets you monitor your home, secure
it from intruders, and control its appliances and power usage via a
cell phone or an Internet browser while you're

also use it to monitor your children or pets, or keep tabs on an
elderly family member. And business owners can use the system to
keep an eye on their premises or employees.
By connecting the included Pro Internet Gateway to your Internet
router, you'll effectively create a wireless network that
"connects" your home to the Internet. And by adding HomeRemote Pro
accessories to your home, such as the included Pro Door Sensor and
Pro Lamp Module, or other HomeRemote Pro-enabled products, such as
Electrical Appliance modules and Pro Motion Detectors (sold
separately), you'll have the option of remotely controlling your
heating and cooling system, lighting, blinds, garage door, and
virtually any electrical appliance in your home.
If you want to add surveillance features to your property, by
installing HomeRemote Pro video cameras, such as the Wireless Video
Camera or Video Camera with Night Vision, you can monitor your
premises 24/7 in real time from virtually any place in the
world.
The comprehensive web interface lets you check on the status of
your home and turn on lights, shades, and other appliances. View

Award-Winning Z-Wave Wireless Technology
At the heart of the HomeRemote Pro System is Z-Wave wireless "mesh"
technology, an award-winning wireless standard for home automation.
Unlike traditional remote technologies that rely on infrared
signals, Z-Wave is not affected by walls or other barriers, and it
offers two-way communication, giving you confirmation that your
commands were received and executed. With Z-Wave, the guesswork and
finger-crossing is taken out of the equation.
Because each "module" or HomeRemote Pro accessory acts as a
repeater that extends the distance of the Z-Wave signals, with a
few easily installed and strategically placed HomeRemote Pro
accessories, your entire home can be covered in a matter of minutes
without any hard-wiring or special installation.
Easy Set Up: No Special Tools or Wiring Required
Setting up a HomeRemote Pro Monitoring System up couldn't be
easier. Once you connect the Pro Internet Gateway to your router,
you log into the HomeRemote Pro Web site, where you can customize
your HomeRemote Pro System by naming the rooms in your home. (You
can also personalize your HomeRemote Pro Web page with photos of
yourself and other custom touches.) Then it's just a matter of
plugging accessories into outlets throughout your home and adding
them to your system.
The "installation" of HomeRemote Pro accessories is as easy as
plugging in one of the several HomeRemote Pro modules into
available electrical outlets. Once the modules, which are about the
size of typical home appliance timers, are connected, you simply
plug your lamp or appliance into it. The modules let you control
appliances remotely (you can schedule them, or turn them on or off
on demand), and they will also act as "repeaters" that effectively
extend your home's Z-Wave wireless network.
You're now ready to control your home through a browser from
anywhere in the world. And by adding your cell phone number to your
account settings, your Internet-enabled cell phone can be used to
control your home and even stream video of particular rooms.
Note: HomeRemote Pro has two levels of services, basic and pro.
Some features mentioned above require a pro-level service. Click
here to see a comparison chart of the differences in features and
capabilities between the basic and pro-level services.
Other HomeRemote Pro Features
The HomeRemote Pro System offers several customization and
monitoring features that give you the ultimate in control and
oversight of your home.
Using your cell phone, you can access your HomeRemote-connected
appliances and surveillance equipment from anywhere. View larger.
The system's Scene/Scheduler feature allows you to create a rule
that applies to a group of different appliances. For example,
instead of turning all your lights off one by one from your cell
phone as you're leaving your house, you can set a Scene called "All
Lights Off" that turns off all your lights with the press of a
button, or turns them off on schedule you've created.
The Alerts and Notifications feature send email and text (SMS)
message alerts to designated recipients whenever a specific event,
such as the opening of a door, occurs within a room. Device Linking
allows one module or sensor to trigger other modules to turn on or
off. Opening a door, for instance, could trigger all the lights in
your home to turn on.
And to help you keep an eye on your property, Activity Logs let you
view recent and past events in your home if you suspect suspicious
activity, or if you simply want to monitor your home while you're
away.
The optional Pro Video Camera (l) and Pro Video Camera with Night
Vision (r) lets you monitor your home from anywhere in the world.
Expanding your HomeRemote Pro System
The HomeRemote Pro System can be customized to grow as your needs
grow. New modules and sensors can be added at anytime. You can add
additional HomeRemote Pro Wireless Door Sensors, Motion Detectors,
Appliance Modules and Lighting Modules, or specialty products, such
as window shades, thermostats, garage door openers, keyless door
locks, light switches, and outdoor lighting modules from other
HomeRemote Pro compatible manufacturers. The HomeRemote Pro System
is compatible with all products featuring the award-winning Z-Wave
technology logo.
HomeRemote Pro Services
Basic-Level service is included with a purchase of a HomeRemote Pro

computer....initially. It does look very sleak but has some huge
negatives
- lots of known problems with motherboard and LED screen (just
google it). I had my motherboard replaced x2 - once when I first
got it because the battery wouldn't hold a charge and again for the
screen.Dell came out and did it but still a pain.
- the fan runs ALL THE TIME.With normal usage - internet only the
fan seems to run all the time - it's very loud and disturbing
- my screen completely broke on its own after 13 months.
So beware - starts out okay but you'd better get the long warranty
and beware of the fan problems
