A minor downside of the Schwinn 220 bike is that it does need to be plugged in to an AC outlet for the display to work.  This is a minor irritation as it’d be easy for them to make the display battery powered, so be prepared for the need for an outlet or an extension cable.  The power is also needed to change the magnetic resistence of the flywheel so if you were using batteries you’d end up using a lot of them!  The AC cord what comes with the Schwinn 220 is approximately 55 inches long.

Schwinn220RecumbentExerciseBikecomputerThe build quality of this bike is very high and assembly isn’t too dificult.  You are looking at 45 to 90 minutes depending on your level of skill.  All the tools you need come with the bike so there are no delays whilst you go to the shops to buy a tool you are missing.  It is worth your while having someone to help you move the heavier pieces of this bike – they aren’t light (but it is sturdy, remember?).

A hint for assembling this Schwinn recumbent bicycle.  Attach the computer console to the mast before attaching it to the frame – it makes it slightly easier!

The seat has very good lumbar support and is comfortable.  However, after 30-40 minutes some reviewers state they feel the seat gets a little bit hard.

The bike is pretty much silent with only a small whine when you change intensity.  It is so quiet that you could even use it whilst somebody sleeps in the same room without disturbing them!  Don’t worry about the handlebars by the console – they aren’t actual handlebars but grips.  The handlebars you want to use are the ones by the seat cushion.

All in all, this is an excellent quality bike at an amazing price and comes highly recommended.  It will last you for a long time and give you some excellent workouts.

It is worth noting that a couple of the parts detailed on the parts list are already fixed on to the bike so you may end up chasing around looking for them if you don’t know this.

The console electronic cable from the front wheel hardware has connectors at both ends which have to be connected the right way around. Connecting these cables the wrong way (they are keyed for the right sockets) is one of the biggest causes of problems with the Schwinn 240 bicycle.

The manual that comes with the Schwinn 240 isn’t the best. Whilst the paper quality is great the diagrams are small and some users have had to use a magnifying class to see them clearly! If you go to the Schwinn recumbent bicycle website you can download the PDF’s of the assembly and user manuals. If you print these out then you’ll have much larger diagrams which are easier to read.

If you are planning on registering the bike then you will need the serial number which is located on the bottom of the fron stablizer. Make sure you take a note of this before you put the bike together.

One of the biggest plus points of this bike is the lack of noise. It is so very very quiet that every reviewer has commented on it and said it is amazing! You can easily watch television, hold a conversation or listen to music whilst using this bike without straining at all.

All in all this is a well made recumbent exercise bicycle which is very quiet and reliable. It is a serious rival for professional machines costing thousands of dollars.
