It sounds as if Shakira is jealous of your fiance only when you are around. You are the number one or alpha person and your fiance is number two. She is happy to be with him when they are home alone, but feels threatened if he tries to ‘take your attention’ away from her. He may not be doing this but to Shakira, he is. That is why she is hitting out at him.

You need to make a big fuss of her when your fiance comes in when you are in bed or relaxing in any way. If she sees you are still giving her attention even though he is there, she will be happy. As she gets used to this, you can start to reduce the amount of fuss you give her. Encourage your fiance to keep on feeding her and playing with her. She will start to learn that you are both ‘alpha’ people and that she must accept that. This shouldl solve the problem.

I am hoping that someone, anyone can help! My cat; Shakira is an 8 year old tortise shell short hair domestic. She is the love of my life & my finance’s too! But lately she has gotten into the habit of hissing at Derrek. She is fine with him while they are home alone from 3-5 but as soon as I get home & I go in the bedroom & lay down. She will jump up there with & if he comes in there she will hiss, slap him & run away!? I dont understand.. She loves him, lays in the chair with him for hours letting him pet her & the suddenly she just turns. Even if he gives her; her wet food at night there are times when she just whacks him one good time & later feels bad for it & literally comes up to him & apologizes in her own way (mostly by rubbing on him & purring). I know it hurts his feelings & we have gotten to the point that I try to keep her away from his side of the bed at night! Please help, I know Shakira loves him & he loves her but they cant go on like that.. Sadly enough I can take the cat pull her tail, throw her in the air, bite her ear & kiss & hug her till she cant take it anymore & she will come right back to me! *disclaimer** I have never hurt my cat I was just exaggerating! lol
