(More customer reviews)So I didn't buy
this on amazon but at Crate and Barrel instead where you can return
the product should anything go wrong.
That being said, my husband has enjoyed latte's 5-7 times a week
now for over a month and the machine works great each time. The one
thing you just have to make sure you do is release the pressure in
the machine after you've let the machine cool down for some time.If
you don't I think the seal would have issues.
Also, the milk steamer should be cleaned periodically with hot
water or else you get junk built up on it.
Anyway, it's a great little machine and I love it.

(More customer reviews)Update: November
23, 2008:
I regret to report that this coffee maker stopped working today,
less than 3 years after I received it. The power light goes on, but
the heating element doesn't heat, and the water doesn't flow from
the tank. The warranty is only one year, so no recourse there. While
I was very happy with the Braun while it worked, I would expect a
fairly simple mechanism to last longer.
I'm not saying everyone's Braun will suddenly stop working at about
three years, and I don't know how well other coffee makers fare.
However, I do know that most Cuisinarts have a THREE-YEAR warranty
at no extra cost. With that timeframe, I could have replaced this
for free (or, no more than the the price of shipping.) SInce I gave
pretty much a rave review of this product, I wanted all potential
buyers to know of my experience with its durability. It may still be
worth purchasing, but I can no longer recommmend it without
reservation.ORIGINAL REVIEW:
This Braun coffeemaker brews coffee so consistently hot and very
flavorful that, if Aaron Copeland had worked for an advertising
agency (shudder), his moving composition, "Fanfare for the Common
Man," could have promoted it.Fortunately, he didn't.
OK, that intro was a stretch. So, without further delay, let me
sing the praises of this Christmas gift:
A.Temperature."It's not hot enough!" is perhaps the most common
complaint about coffeemakers. We can divide this into two
categories: First, the coffee is not hot enough when made, and
second, the coffee does not stay hot after it is made.
1.The Braun KF 590 (also known as the KF590E) brews very hot
coffee, when initially poured you couldn't take it any hotter
unless you had damaged nerve endings in your mouth. As with any hot
beverage, the coffee will stay warmer depending on the coffee cup's
insulation qualities (thick walls, relatively narrow, perhaps
pre-heated with hot water)
2.Temperature Duration. The carafe of my old Krups (Crystal Arome
Time, #400 series) seemed to keep things warm for about 20 minutes;
this was completely unsatisfactory and the main reason for wanting
a new one.My new Braun (thanks Mom and Dad!) kicks Krups' butt in
this area, keeping it hot for hours without a burnt flavor. The
default setting (until automatic shut-off) is 2 hours of heat, but
you can manually adjust it from 20 minutes to 3 hours.
B.Convenience of Operation:The Braun is relatively easy to use, but
a limited number of buttons (4) and indicator lights (2) operate
the clock, the automatic shut-off described above, and the
automatic start-up (setting the time that you want the coffeemaker
to begin brewing). It does take a bit of time to learn these
programming features; I consulted the brief instructions for a few
days before I got the hang of it.Once learned, it not easy to
forget.I don't think this should bea factor in deciding whether to
purchase this. The Braum brews coffee faster than in the old Krups,
and like many machines, this one stops the coffee flow when the
impatient (or the addicted) simply must pour a little java before
all the water has run through.Noise level is about average, you can
hear it brewing, but it's doesn't sputter loudly when done.Another
contrast to the Krups is the nicely designed carafe handle and the
ease of pouring coffee without spilling it.
C.Features:THE WATER FILTER-It's almost unbelievable that the
instructions don't include the replacement model number for the
"Braun Brita" water filter. They're not hesitant to tell you that it
"improves coffee flavor by significantly reducing chlorine and also
prevents calcification ... Provided that the cartridge is replaced
regularly every two months, it not only brews better tasting coffee
but can also extend the life of your coffeemaker by preventing
[this gets redundant] calcification buildup.Braun water filer
cartridges are available at your local retailer or Braun service
centers."
WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU...Use the following to replace the "Braun
Brita" water filter: The KWF2. (web citation:
http://www.theessentials.com/jump.jsp?itemID=994&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C8%2C65%2C336&iProductID=994
). As of this date, this costs $9.99 for a two-pack.At one filter
every two months (see below), annual replacement (assuming no
shipping) will cost you about $60, or about 75% of the current
Amazon.com sale price.Braun and Brita executives must be in their
cups about this sweet little arrangement they've brewed.
As stated immediately above, Braun's manual recommends that you buy
a new water filter every two months, but the Braun-linked website
above tells you to replace it every 70 brews. Depending on your
consumption, that could easily take three or four months, not two.
Also, running vinegar through the machine twice should dissolve
most or all of the calcification, and one can always just buy
bottled water.
Big Brother Braun reminds you that it's time to change the water
filter with a small but cheesy-looking 12-month "time for a new
filter" dial on top. This is a slightly annoying and unattractive
feature onan otherwise stylish machine. There's a permanent (but
removable) "gold cone" filter, the type of filter that most
aficionados prefer for its superior brewing properties. It appears
you can buy a replacement filter at Amazon.com, although other than
an accidental tear or accumulated stains (which can be removed with
baking soda and scrubbing), the filter should last for years.
However, it doesn't look gold and it's not clear to me whether
there really is a gold coating over the fine steel mesh. One can
manually swing out the filter holder, or lightly push a small
silver button atop the machine.Very nicely done.
D.Maintenance:Very easy: Wipe off the outside, run vinegar or water
through it, and take out the gold cone filter and run water over
it. Because part of the holder for the gold cone filter is
metallic, it is supposedly not dishwasher safe, the manual
recommends wiping it down with a damp cloth with a small amount of
dishwashing soap if desired.I didn't see any metal parts except the
metallic exterior of the holder; personally, I'm gonna dunk the
thing. Since the manual is so incomplete, you may want to copy the
"authorized" Braun Service Center number:1-800/272-8611.
E. Where to Buy Accesories:
1.The KWF2 Water Filter:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000062UH2/ref=ord_cart_shr/103-7519344-0327817?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance&n=284507
2. Gold-Tone Filter
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007W04A2/qid=1137279064/sr=1-12/ref=sr_1_12/103-7519344-0327817?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=284507
F.The Bottom Line:Easily one of the best coffeemaker out there, the
Braun KF590 makes delicious hot coffee that stays hot, and it sells
at a very reasonable price.I considered the Braun 600 "Impressions"
machine because of its thermos-like carafe, but that feature is a
double-edged sword, you can't see how much coffee is left.Aside
from the small but ridiculous water changer dial on top, the chrome
and black Braun 590 looks good and is moderately sized for its
capacity.
Look at the reviews of the other coffeemakers and you may agree
that this is the best one for the money.I will be updating this
review in a few months to let people know about the Braun's
durability.

(More customer reviews)Noodles' review is
just about exactly what I was going to write. Our old ProAroma was
a better machine. It's hard to believe anyone at Krups would think
it was an improvement to lock out all controls except "off" when
the machine is on program mode. You want to change the program? Set
the program "off" time longer? You have to turn it off to do that.
Then, when you turn it back on to keep the coffee warm, it thinks
you want to brew a new pot, and starts an "empty reservoir" alarm.
The automatic start program doesn't cancel after it runs, it stays
on. Uhhh... Krups? It's obvious that I would have to actively tend
to the machine - like add a filter? Coffee? Water? before it makes
coffee again. Wouldn't it make sense to assume that I would be
capable of setting the program again at that time? Krups thinks you
should be forced to remember to turn the program off (not possible
when it's still warming the carafe!) if you don't want to use it.If
you forget LATER, after the program time has run it's course, it
starts the "empty reservoir" alarm nice and early Saturday morning.
Our ProAroma was completely programmable any time - and it had more
features. This machine is definitely a step down. Oh, wait - I
forgot - the carafe has a lid that won't come off, won't open far
enough to stay open by itself, and stained brown in a month. How am
I supposed to fit this in the dishwasher - with the lid closed? I
guess so. I wish the old carafe with the snap-on, snap-off lid
would fit this thing. OK, so I got it for $60, much cheaper than
the last few (non e-bay) ProAromas would have cost me. But I feel
bad that I didn't just spend $20 on Mr. Coffee. I think this
machine was not only built in China, it was designed there by
someone who had never laid hands on a ProAroma. Coffee is fine, but
so is it when I boil water in a kettle and pour it over the grounds
in a Melitta filter...this is just handier. The machine feels
sturdy, not cheap. My gripe is in the programming. Oh, yeah, I
forgot - they moved the electronics back under the heating element,
where coffee and water get spilled on it. Not up high like the
ProAroma's.

(More customer reviews)We were generally
happy with the Cuisinart DCC-100-- while it lasted. A few months
ago it started working intermittently. It wouldn't always brew the
coffee. Finally it stopped working altogether. The hot plate was
not very warm, and it looked as though the problem might be the
thermostat. So we took the coffeemaker apart. There appear to be
two coils--a high power unit for brewing the coffee, and a lower
power coil for keeping it warm. A thermostat in a round white
ceramic package monitors the temperature. It was open, even at room
temperature, so the high power coil never went on. Took it apart.
Found a very brittle plastic ring, and very corroded contacts.
Opinion-- the thermostat is of poor quality. The contact materials
appear to be of poor quality, very pitted, unable to sustain
extended use. The brown plastic ring that actuates the contacts
appears to be made of a material that cannot sustain the heat. This
is based on a sample of just one unit, but my recommendation is to
stay clear of this unit unless/until Cuisanart finds a new
thermostat vendor and publicizes that action.

(More customer reviews)First off; water
does NOT leak from the back. There are two small vents just above
the 12 cup mark which will allow overflow to spill out for safety
reasons. If you're getting a water overflow, that means you OVER
FILLED it.
That said, I didn't have too many needs when I purchased this item.
I needed something cheap, and one that I could preset a brew time.
I got this one on sale at Target (not my choice of stores, but I
just happened to be there) for $25. I've had it now for over a
month and it has worked very well for my needs.
I only buy fresh coffee beans, so I cannot say how tasty the coffee
is for a drip coffee maker, but it works perfect for my freshly
ground beans.
There is only one problem I can identify. For some reason, a small
amount of ground up coffee overflows into the canister beneath the
basket which holds the filter. Occasionally I even find a very few
grounds into the water chamber as well. So far, to date, I've not
gotten any into the actual pot, but there is something about the
way the water drips that is causing this overflow.
I did however figure out a trick that has helped reduce this
behavior. Instead of piling coffee into a mountain in the filter, I
even it out to a flat bed of coffee. Perhaps I should've been doing
that all along, but it was never a problem until I got this
particular machine.
Overall I'm very pleased with this coffee maker and am happy with
my purchase.
Pros
Preset brew time works perfect, quickly makes coffee, results are
tasty, great price.
Cons
Grounds sometimes found outside of filter basket, but can be fixed
as noted above.
The Bottom Line
This coffee maker brews quickly, is easy to use, can be preset for
brew times and makes good coffee too.

(More customer reviews)Makes good coffee,
espresso, cappuccino, etc.
It tends to have problems quite often that require having Miele
visit. If you decide to buy this, get the extended warranty. That's
not very expensive, but then again this unit costs more than $2500.
And keep your inexpensive drip coffee or inexpensive small espresso
maker plugged in for the times that this unit needs repair. After
Miele telephone support agrees that its not user-fixable, they tell
you that the on-site service guys will call. So it can be several
days before you have the unit working again.
Extremely unforgiving of user errors and it's not easily
user-fixable even with the help of Miele telephone support.
Can be difficult to clean: there's a honeycombed insert into the
drip tray that creates hard to clean crevices. A bad idea given
that coffee is oily and sticky.
When the brew unit goes wrong, as it has couple times for me, I
wish Miele would ship me a replacement unit and then have me ship
the problem brew unit back.

thing to finally find what you have been looking for after
searching, and researching and reading and asking . . . That's what
happened with me and how I eventually came upon this amazing
appliance.
For the longest time, I've been looking for a device which can make
coffee & tea - hot chocolate is a bonus and not a necessity. I
went to Bed Bath & Beyond, K-Mart, Walmart, Target and dozens
of other stores I cannot even begin to recall.
I'll cut to the point: I found this 3-in-1 beverage center,
purchased it immediately and could not possibly be happier. The
electric tea kettle boils quickly, has 4 different temperature
settings: Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate or Boil. It brings the water
to the proper temperature quickly, is easy to clean and easy to
use.
Also, I am partial to French Press coffee makers, which always seem
to make the best coffee. If you haven't had a French Press before,
get this. It's more than worth it and will make some fantastic
coffee.
I could not be happier with this purchase and highly recommend it

(More customer reviews)Not sure if the
first reviewer is misdirecting his dissatisfaction. Sounds like the
spending of the vacation money was the real problem. Because this
machine is perfect, and I have nothing bad to say about it. Other
than that it does look a little Spartan, but only in a minor
way.
It brews an wonderfull espresso, with thick, golden, foamy crema.
It brews it absolutely perfectly, and consistently everytime.
Overall the functionality of this machine is superb, and very
customizable. Each button can be programmed to YOUR specifications,
so easily a monkey could do it. The cup warmer is genious, the
clean-up is easier than ANY drip maker I have used/owned. Overall
the machine is also very quiet.
The 'Foofy' drinks (as I like to call them) are top notch! My wife
prefers the lattes, Chai teas, etc. The frother on this machine has
it's own dedicated thermoblock boiler, so there is no lag time, and
the froth is excellent. Micro-bubbles as good as any Barista. Water
filtering system is great, easy to activate, grinds, tamps beans
which is excellent. Also has a chute for already ground coffee,
good for Decaf, or flavored.
I guess you could complain about the plastic on the outside, but
this does not bother me at all. and frankly seems easier to keep
clean, which is a concern since milk etc splatters on the machine
when you froth. Also keeps the machine lighter and enables you to
move it without breaking your neck.
The ONLY difference between this machine and the S9A is the
following:
Exterior look, S7A has black accents, S9A has the same plastic
accents, but in silver.
S9A comes with the Frother X-Press, which quite honestly is useless
unless you are entertaining and brewing several milk drinks at
once. Anyway, frothing in the cup is fun.
The cup warmer on the S9A has stainless tray, whereas the S7A is
plastic.
Otherwise, the functionality and insides of the machines is the
same. And this is where both of these machines shine, on their
functionality. They brew excellent, hot, delicious, rich, coffee in
less than 60 seconds. They are tried and true, well-reviewed
models.
If you are in the market, don't think twice about a Jura, the
quality is fantastic, and end result brew is second to only a
Semi-Auto.

(More customer reviews)I had a Super
Automatic espresso machine a few years ago until it went out. I
figured it would cost more to get it fixed than it was worth. So, I
bought this Saeco Odea Giro and I love it. My other machine was
digital and had more options, but was also more expensive. I much
prefer the Saeco Odea Giro because it is easier to use, quieter
than my other machine and hopefully will last longer. As with most
products, the more options and computers you have on it, the more
of a chance something will go wrong.
The Giro was designed by BMW. This makes it less boxy looking, like
most other espresso machines, and therefore much more pleasing to
the eye. The controls are simple and straight forward. Turn it on
and it heats up in 30 seconds. Select the amount of coffee to be
ground, turn the dial for the amount of water you want and press
the brew button. Of course, once you set the first two options,
then you only have to press the brew button for the next cup. And
that is it. The maximum amount of water it will dispense is about 9
ounces. Of course, if you press the brew button 2 times then you
will get twice the amount or two cups of coffee. This amount of
water works fine for me because I drink cappuccino.
I have tried different brands of coffee such as, Lavazza,
Starbucks, Peets and Illy. I have found that Illy is the smoothest
and no bitterness, but is the most expensive. I usually use
Starbucks because it has a nice flavor and fairly mild. Coffee is
subjective. Just try different brands and blends until you find the
one you like the most. Just do not use a flavored or highly oily
coffee bean because it could plug up the grinder.
There are four lights on the front. One is the on or ready light.
Another one is to let you know when to decalcify. The third light
tells you when you need to empty the used grounds, dump box. The
forth light has different functions that could mean one of several
things. This light will either be on steady, slowly flash or
rapidly flash. This light will warn you of one of the following.
The water tank is empty, bean hopper is empty, drip try is full,
water tank is not pushed in all the way, service door is open, brew
group is not installed correctly, coffee bean cover is not securely
in place or the water circuit needs to be primed. Just read the
manual to see what the light status means.
There is an optional Aqua Prima water filter you can buy. This
filter is a must have if you use tap water. Otherwise, you will get
a buildup of calcium and other minerals that decalcifying may not
totally get rid of. Plus, your coffee will taste much better.
I can not address the froth wand because I have a separate machine
I use for cappuccino, but I am sure it works just like other
espresso machines.
As with most espresso machines the coffee is not quite as hot as I
would prefer. So, I preheat the cup by simply putting about one
third cup of water in the cup and microwave it for 40 seconds. This
also helps keep the coffee hot longer.
Maintenance is easy and quick. Fill the bean container when it
needs it. Empty the dump box every day or whenever it tells you.
Empty the drip tray when needed. Fill the water tank when needed.
Rinse the brew group at least once a week.
Here are some helpful hints. If the machine has not been used for a
few hours and is cold, when you turn it on it will dispense a small
amount of water out of the spout. This action primes the pump and
cleans the spout of any coffee residue. Place a cup under the spout
to collect that water and dump it. That way it will not go into the
drip tray and you will not have to empty it as often. Also, do not
let the water tank get too low or it will stop in the middle of
brewing.
I highly recommend this espresso machine. You could spend a few
thousand dollars on one with all the bells and whistles, but the
end result is the same. They all make coffee or espresso in the
same way.
UPDATE: This was the second Saeco espresso machine I have bought.
The first one, which was a different model but the same brand,
broke down after a little over 1 year. This Odea went out in less
than 6 months. Therefore, I have to downgrade my star rating to 2
stars because of reliability. I will no longer buy this brand. I
bought a Delonghi and am very happy with it thus far.

(More customer reviews)We bought the
B&D TCM700 in August and other than some minor adjustments to
use it (compared to our old B&D press and brew)it worked
satisfactorly. A week before Xmas the brew cycle began to act up.
It was using only 2/3 of the available water. Went to B&D
website and to my surprise this model does not exist. Seems they
have replaced it with a different design. Still trying to reach a
live person at B&D regarding the problem. Recommend something
similar, but different manufacturer.
