Most of the controversy stems from unsubstantiated hearsay, unscientific observation, and amateur SEO. The truth of the matter is that a good SEO can rank a static site, a WordPress site, a Blogger Blog, a Drupal Blog, or even some obscure web 2.0 site. The platform (site builder) doesn't matter. If the on page and off page SEO are solid then the page and the site will rank in time (Provided the keyword and competition research are spot on).
