Bluehost is a
Joomla hosting company that has been in business
since 1996. So, while it is an older company, many seem to disagree
on how professional it is. Apparently, a lot of people have been
having problems with Bluehost, but just how problematic is this
company? It is, after all, all over the Internet. It has hundreds
of thousands of users, it offers many unlimited features, and it
boasts some of the best support on the Internet.
So what can we find out about Bluehost? A number of customers
complain that Bluehost is lying to them. Bluehost offer unlimited
storage, but complain when users exceed 50,000 files. It also looks
like they may have storage limits, even though they say they don't.
What's the truth? Are these reviews dead on, or is there more to
the picture? We'll try to figure this out.
Firstly, Bluehost does advertise unlimited space. Now people are
complaining that Bluehost is telling them that they have too many
files or if they exceed the maximum number of megabytes which
shouldn't exist, since storage is supposed to be unlimited.
Ok, so what does this mean? Bluehost does indeed advertise
unlimited storage on their site, quite heavily in fact. It's all
over the site. The exact meaning of unlimited seems up for debate
though. From the customer's point of view it seems odd that
Bluehost would limit you to 50,000 files when they advertise
unlimited storage. From Bluehost's point of view, a normal webiste
should never even come close to using 50,000 files. If you're using
that many you should be looking at VPS or a dedicated server. A
shared server is just that, shared. It's meant for equal use
amongst all on the server.

Tips To Find The Right Joomla Host
How To Find A Great Joomla HostDate Published: Dec 02, 2009 - 2:47 am
If your site is too big for shared hosting, but not big enough for
a server, VPS hosting is made for you. It keeps costs down by
having more than one user on the same hardware, but still allows
all of the flexibility you get from a dedicated server. The main
server is split into smaller, virtual "servers". In the end you get
all of the independence and flexibility that comes with a dedicated
server, without the larger price tag.
When shopping around for the right VPS hosting company, it is a
good idea to keep your eye open for a certain number of deal
makers. Some of these may be absolute necessities, and some may be
completely useless. This list is some of the most important items
to be looking for in a potential VPS hosting company.
What hardware are they running?
First, see if you can find out what type of servers the VPS hosting
company is using. You want to make sure they are using dual CPU,
quad core Xeon processors. Also make sure that they are using
hardware based RAID on their drives. They should use at least RAID
5, but RAID 10 is better due to it's speed and stability.
What software do they offer?
If you don't have your own operating system preference, it's tough
to beat CentOS 4 or 5. Your VPS should, of course, also come with
root access that is unrestricted, giving you administrative access
to your website and the server which it is hosted on. You also want
to check that you can get cPanel with your VPS and that you can
host unlimited domains. If they are not, research what the
alternative is, because cPanel is fairly common, and also one of
the best. You should also get at least 2 dedicated IP addresses.
So, make it a point to ask this very important question before you
write your new Web host a check for the first month.
Avoid long renewal terms
You also want to be very careful if you choose to pay in advance
for hosting services. Even if you get better pricing you may want
to move next month, or the host may go downhill. You should always
look to pay monthly so you can leave when you need to.
Make sure you do your research, but for most sites
VPS
hosting makes a great choice.

If you're too large for shared hosting, but not big enough for a
server, VPS hosting is perfect for you. It gives you the ability to
share a server with several other customers, while still allowing
you the room and flexibility of a dedicated server. The main server
is broken up into virtual servers that are separate from one
another. In the end you get all of the independence and flexibility
that comes with a dedicated server, without the higher price
tag.
When looking around for the right VPS web host, it is a good idea
to keep your eye open for a few deal makers. You will find some of
these things more useful than others. This list is some of the most
important items to look for in a prospective VPS web host. Good
luck, and happy hunting!
Check the Hardware
The most important thing you want to check on is the hardware the
VPS web host is using. Quad core Xeon servers are some of the best
around. Also make sure that they are using hardware based RAID on
their drives. They should use at least RAID 5, but RAID 10 is
better due to it's speed and stability.
Check the software
If you don't have your own operating system preference, it's tough
to beat CentOS 4 or 5. You should also check that you get full root
access to your VPS so that you can run or install anything that you
need to, within the hosts terms of service. You also want to verify
that you can host as many domains as you think you may need. Also
check that they offer the control panel that you like working with.
If they don't offer cPanel check what other control panels they
offer. cPanel is the most common control panel and one of the best.
You also want to make sure your VPS comes with at least 2 IPs. You
will need 2 IPs to setup nameservers on your domain.
Don't pay too long
You may also want to avoid paying in advance for hosting services.
Even if they offer a better deal, you never know what changes a
month will bring. You should always look to pay monthly so you can
leave when you need to.
Make sure you do your research, but for most sites
VPS
hosting makes a great choice.
