I stayed in Beijing to take up learn Mandarin classes and they were all in vain. The only thing positive with it was that I could converse with locals that use the Chinese language. I just hated the long boring hours spent inside a classroom.

You know what? I never learned that much! At that time, I was using Chinesepod (it’s something you put on your ipod and listen) at the same time while learning in classrooms during daytime. My vocabulary increased a bit, my phrases got a bit better but overall, I was still not fluent and had a hard time understanding people…and actually talking in full sentences.

Mandarin language classes will always be the popular choice but it’s those little things that are better when it comes to teaching complicated languages like Mandarin. Thankfully, living in a Chinese community for 6 months somehow affected me and made me learn to understand what they mean even if I couldn’t understand most of the words they say in their sentences.

Before my 6 months came to a close, I knew I just couldn’t face my family. I knew it cost them a fortune just to send me there to study…plus the cost of living there is not that cheap…it was along the times of the Olympics. I knew they will ask me about my learn Mandarin classes and how I should show off my “awesome” new Chinese tongue.

So on the fourth month of my stay in BJ(yup, that’s what they call the place over there) I just lost hope from my learn Mandarin classes. Not only were they slow in progress, it also just taught me little new vocabulary. I started to browse the net and found out this site about learn chinese easy. I was skeptical of course BUT I had no other choice because of all the internet censorships in China, you can’t use YouTube for crying out loud.
