(More customer reviews)I will start out
saying this is an excellent tv for the price! If you are like me
you have probley read tons of reviews, shopped around, looked at
the sets in the stores and so on. I was able to get lucky enough to
view the TV's I was considering on to purchase at the local Sears
side by side. The sets were the LG60PS60, Panny TC58S1, Panny V10
& Samsung PN58B650. To be honest they all looked good! The
major deal breaker was the price point, the LG is around 200 to 300
dollars cheaper than the Samsung PN58B650 and about $1k less than
the Panny V10(... on line that is). I eliminated the TC58S1 from my
choice since I dont think it was in the same class as the other
three. The Samsung B650 & Panny V10 did have deeper blacks I
agree but for the price differance not an issue at all. The stand
comes mounted on this tv in which isnt to bad but if you have
little ones I would recomend mounting it on the wall... never know
with little hands ( get a good mount thou, the tv weighs around
125lbs or so). Hands down the set is better looking the the other's
I have mentioned, it looks like a big picture frame with the solid
sheet of glass that covers the front, not to mention makes it
easier to clean in the future.
They say you dont have to break in the tv but I did anyhow. I found
a free download to burn on a dvd disc that runs thru radom colors,
I used it when I was not watching tv prior to 100hrs. By no means
is the TV picture that good right out of the box, its not bad but
given time (over 100hrs) and use the "wizzard" that it has its to
bad at all. I did use a dvd calabration disc that I had borrowed
from a friend DVE ( long story short, it takes some time to play
with it) but when I was able to "dial" it in, WOW!
The sound isnt to bad, I was actually impressed with it since its
from a TV but never the less I use a surround sound set up so its
not an issue for me. Face it, most tv's are not good for quality
sound. The connections are pretty good, it has all that you will
need for a good set-up. Quick note, the photo that shows the back
panel is NOT correct. The connections such as HDMI and so on are
the lower right hand (if viewing from the back) and not in the
middle as shown above. Not a big issue unless you are mounting this
on the wall and using cables thru the wall as I did, so plan
ahead.
There is only one issue I have with this set thou, its the
reflection is gives out. Now I knew this prior to purchase so I
cant complain about it, its "glass"! I just thought I would warn
those who may not think about it. We have an open living room with
large windows on one side and an open kitchen in the back that when
the lights are on you can see the reflection. This is not a "knock"
on the set since most plasmas will have glare not to mention
anything with glass such as the new lcd/led's.
Image retention is not an issuse with this set ( at least not this
one), I have the orbiter set on to take care of that. If you do
have an issue thier is a white wash along with a color watch, I
found that to be very helpful if needed. As I had mentioned earlier
the picture wizzard isnt to bad, it does a fairly good job but to
get the full beauty you should think about getting it calabrated
with a DVD, it really help's! With that I dont think its ness. to
spend $300 to get if done by a professional but thats just my
opinion thou. Just be patiant with it, give it least 100 to 200
hours then you be amazed.
I have the LG BD390 Blu-ray player so I did not need to 60ps80
series to stream netflix ( great player by the way!) The image is
fantastic, I could not be happier. Standard tv is so/so, I believe
any set its going to look so/so but standard HD channels (720p
broadcast) look's very good! I had a Samsung 56' DLP that this set
replaced that I thought it was very good but after getting this...
hands down this set overwhelms it!
My final over-view:
I feel that I have chosen the right TV. The size, the price &
the picture... I am quite pleased with this TV. I have never owned
a plasma tv let alone a LG TV since most of them have been Samsung
( which is a great TV as well) but now I can say I am a LG fan as
well. Just a fact, side by side the Samsung B650 & Panny V10
may have a little bit better blacks but in your home you cant tell
the differnace. When I say "balcks" I mean more of a balance, I do
believe the LG has better color thou. I would have to say the Panny
V10 was very good but for $1k more no way. I gave this set a 5 star
due to the size, picture and price. I didnt want to spend more than
$2k for a set since that was my budget but I also wanted a great
tv, so in essance I found both! Maybe this little review may help
then again maybe not but I thought I would put my 2 cents worth
in.

(More customer reviews)Just replaced my 2
year old Panasonic Plasma with the 42pq30 from LG. The LG delivers
a fantastic picture, the 600 mhz fluid motion effect works
beautifully for sports and action movies. The ultra high contrast
ratio of 2,000,000:1 really brings out the dark backgrounds when
fitting. Oddly enough it performed especially well while I was
watching Charlie Rose. That black back-drop he uses really creates
a personal proximity between him and his guests. The classic
mahogany table is equally appealing on the set creating the
ultimate prop for shared space and time.
I would highly recommend this TV for anyone not looking to spend a
fortune on a good quality flat panel television.

(More customer reviews)This is a wonderful
home theater system. I have played a few movies since I got this a
couple of days ago and have been more than happy. The system came
well packaged and there were no signs of wear and tear when I
accepted delivery. The player and the speakers are in an attractive
matte finish, although the speaker casing seems light and made of
plastic (but then it is only $440, so can't expect anything more)-
nonetheless it looks good. Unlike my other home theater system, the
Sony DAV FX900W, which took a long time to assemble, I was able to
assemble all the four speakers in 15 minutes. The speaker unit
consists of three parts- the base, middle section and the speaker
(the top half). The middle section clicks into the base unit and is
secured by three screws. Then the speaker clicks into the middle
section (which is affixed to the base unit) and is secured by one
screw- simple as that. The speaker wires (not very good quality)
are sufficiently long to reach the DVD player from their respective
positions. Upon connection, I entered setup and selected 1080i for
the picture and increased the level for the center and rear
channels. On playing a DVD, the picture quality was very good for a
system of this price as was the audio. The radio and the ipod
connection work fine, although I think i will stick with using the
aux in jack for my ipod and not the USB- the problem arises when
the ipod is not fully charged as then one cannot access the ipod
library for a bit while the ipod charges via the USB (just like it
is when you connect a partially charged ipod to your computer via
USB). Sound quality playing the ipod and CDs is great. The remote
is not backlit which is a bummer. I don't understand why these
companies cannot provide this basic and essential feature on
remotes. The remote feels good though and should be liked by most
people (I use a logitech universal remote). BTW the system does NOT
come with batteries for the remote- so you need to buy them
yourself (two AAA batteries).
Now for the icing on the cake. I was able to find a code on the
internet to make this player region free. The code was meant for
another Samsung player but worked with this one too- so I am now
able to watch DVDs I purchased in Hong Kong and the UK-
Sweet!!!
To make your player region free (and I think any other Samsung DVD
player region free) follow the instructions below (you need to
follow the instructions exactly, else it won't work).
1. Remove disc from tray.
2. Switch off player and unplug from mains.
3. Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect mains.
4. Turn on player with remote. Wait for player to finish loading
and display 'no disc'.
5. Press enter on remote. (There will be no on-screen
response.)
6. Press 8, 4, 2, 6, 9 on the remote. (There will be no on-screen
response.)
7. Press enter on the remote. Player will automatically shut
off.
8. Turn player on.
9. Turn off.
10. Turn player on then off again.
11. Player is now region-free.
All in all I am really happy with this purchase. Good video and
audio quality, HDMI Out/ In, Tallboy speakers, $440 value and
Region free capability, make this system agood buy.
I hope this review has been helpful in making your choice. I don't
think you can go wrong with this player (for the price)

(More customer reviews)Purchased to
replace a 13-in tube set.Very satisfied with price &
quality. It's also lightweight and sleek.Able to set up right out of
the box and the picture is extremely clear with vivid colors.Able
to pick up digital channels not previously available on non-digital
tube set.The dvd player is at the top of TV almost in the center -
4 1/2 in space on right and 7 in space on the left.So it's
off-center to the right of the TV, not a side insert as I've seen
with other TV/DVD combos. Good remote control with a couple of
functions I haven't seen before such as "pause" which immediately
freezes any program - when you press pause again, it will start the
program wherever it currently is at that moment so you will lose
the length of time you "paused." Remote ergonomically easy to hold
but because it is long, a little difficult to use one hand to reach
all buttons. Also, there's no function for programming favorite
channels but there is a button to return to previously watched
channel.Must purchase a VGA cable and audio cable before hooking up
PC to use this as a computer monitor.Hook up is easy and picture
from PC clear. There's a pause when changing channels but it's not
too bad. I like this flatscreen a lot and think that the quality is
good.8/25/2010 Update:TV still working great.Small external
speakers have been added for fuller sound quality.

(More customer reviews)First of all, let
me say that this unit is very well worth the money. As "just a dvd
player" I give it FIVE over FIVE points (or ten/ten if you
wish).
The unit comes locked for Region 1 DVDs, but can be easily unlocked
(just google for the asnwer) to make it region-free. I have tested
my unit purchased on amazon.com and unlocked with Region 1, region
2 dvds purchased from Britain, and region 4 DVDs purchased in South
America. It just works.
The unit's COMPONENT-VIDEO output is superb, even if you use an CRT
TV. I recommend you get a quality component video cable and use
that instead of the "composite video" output.
When playing MPG and AVI files, the component video output shows
pixelation and artifacts on low-quality or low-resolution
avi/divx/mpg files, but when playing back the same files and
switching the tv to component video, these problems go away!.
Component video, it should be noted, is superior to "s-video"
(which just separates color information from luminance), as each
basic color (Red-Green-Blue) travels on a separate shielded
cable.
Now, the "extras" besides basic DVD playback
1. DIVX and XVID are supported. But some .avi files will play back
with NO SOUND if the original file was encoded with a "codec"
(compression algorithm) that is not supported by this unit. Just
because a file plays back ok on your PC with "Windows Media Player"
it doesn't mean it will playback in this unit.
2. DVD-R media *IS* supported. You might need, however, to update
the firmware (it's available for download from the philips.com web
site. You have to download a .iso image, burn the data to a cd-r,
press a key combination on the remote and then insert the cd-r
disc).
Now the problems:
1. Even while DivX is supported, mpeg4/divx files compressed with
the Divx Pro software using the "QPEL" (advanced motion
optimization and prediction) will NOT PLAY on the unit. The unit
will display an ugly "QPEL CODEC NOT SUPPORTED" message and stop
there. There's no way to play back QPEL encoded files on this unit
(it would require a much faster processor inside).
2. ZOOM LEVELS ARE INCONSISTENT. On DVD movies, zoom levels
featured are 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 4x. However when you are playing back
".avi" (mpeg4/divx) files, you will find that often the only zoom
levels available are "normal" (no zoom) and "2x", and that's
it!.There is no 1.5x zoom level when paying back mpg and divx
files! So forget about watching that wide-screen (4:3 format) movie
in full screen by switching to 1.5x zoom mode. If it's a DVD movie
you can. But if it's a DivX/MPEG4 movie you can't!.
3. A-B loop doesn't work most of the time on DivX/AVI files.
Sometimes, when it does work, after you selct an a-b loop, you turn
the feature off by pressing the a-b key once again, and when you
want to create another a-b loop, the feature no longer works!
(unless you press STOP and PLAY the file once again). VERY
annoying.
4. PHILIPS doesn't seem very interested in updating the firmware.
The last update is dated May 2004, and there has been no update
since then, even while the number of bugs is high (see above).
However, even after all this, I think that for ~$70 dollars or less
including Amazon.com's free ground shipping, you can't go wrong
with this unit, as DVD playback is superb, and the ability to play
most (but not all!) .mpg / .avi (DivX/MPEG4/Xvid) video files is
just a nice extra to have in there as a "bonus".
Burning .avi and mpg files to DVD recordable media also works.

Philips DVP642 DivX-Certified Progressive-Scan DVD
Player
Product Description:
Tap into multimedia fun with Philips' broad-format, high-style, and
ultra-slim DVP642 DVD player. The DVP642 is not only a high-end
progressive-scan DVD player equipped to offer scintillating images
on high-definition and HD-ready TVs, it's a tech-savvy player that
spins your MP3- and JPEG-encoded recordable CDs (as well as Kodak's
and Fuji's variants of the same) and CDs loaded with MPEG-4 and
DivX video (3.11, 4.x, and 5.x files), perfect for viewing
Internet-sourced content in your home theater. Want more? The
player also converts Region 1/All Region PAL-formatted discs (the
video standard in Europe) for viewing on standard NTSC televisions
(and vice-versa, if only for video CDs).
The DVP642's progressive-scan functionality allows compatible TVs
to display the even and odd numbered lines of an image in a single
pass. This minimizes screen flicker, which is easier on your
eyes.
Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're
merely thinking of "someday," the DVP642 stands ready to deliver
the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to
as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video
image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a
conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper
images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
Playback options include five-disc resume, which lets you pick up
where you left off on your five most recently viewed DVDs (not
applicable for MP3 or JPEG CDs), disc-lock parental controls, and
picture zoom for magnification of select images.
The player will play JPEG images one by one automatically, letting
you zoom in, rotate, or flip the picture vertically or
horizontally. For MP3 playback, the player offers track time
display, album and track selection, and repeat (disc/album/track).
The DivX media format is MPEG-4 based video compression that lets
you save large files like films, movie trailers, and music videos
on recordable media.
Philips' 4x video upsampling offers smoother images even when
viewing interlaced (nonprogressive) signals through the player's
component-video, S-video, or standard composite-video outputs.
SmartPicture provides optimum picture settings for color,
brightness, saturation, contrast, sharpness, etc., to enhance your
overall viewing experience at all times.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro
Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Dolby Digital 5.1-channel
surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's
digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical)
for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

DVD-Video player, remote control with batteries, a user's manual,

(More customer reviews)I couldn't wait for
this product to get off back-order status from Amazon so I went to
Elgato's web-site and purchased it directly from the manufacturer
(for more $).I could not believe my eyes when I saw the extreme
clarity of the digital picture! It was noticeably better than the
analog signal AND with the digital side you have control of the
contents just like a TiVo (meaning, you can back-up several seconds
or pause or go all the way back to the beginning). You lose the TiVo
characteristics on the analog side (unless you record the show) but
it is still acceptable to use if the station doesn't come in
digital form at your location. The hard drive space will quickly
become an issue if you record several hour long TV episodes per
week.An hour long show will eat up about 7 - 8 GB's on average but
this can be cut down 4.5 - 5 GB once you edit out the 16 minutes or
so of commercials.
I have the MacBook Pro 2.0 Ghz Core Duo w/100 GB 7200 RPM hard
drive and the 256 MB video card. When I plug into my 30" ACD I have
a beautiful HD picture of any TV show I wish. The Elgato TV software
works wonderful with the Front Row mini remote control, although,
with a great deal of menu jumping, it is fully compatible with all
functions just like a full size TV remote.
The TitanUSA web-site gives complete TV listings and downloads
these updates to your hard drive for viewing on your Elgato TV
software via menu like listings similar to TV Guide.Just clicking
on the little red ball next to the listing is all you have to do to
record that particular show. You can then edit the listing so that
it records this show every week.Works just as well as my TiVo
except... excuse me, NO EXCEPTION! It works BETTER than my TiVo
because it records in HD!My old TiVo can't do that and the new ones
can but you have to pay TiVo monthly subscriptions now because they
don't have any more lifetime service contracts.
The available formats that you can convert your recorded content to
is truly amazing. It will even allow conversion to your video iPod
automatically or you can use Toast to archive your shows to DVD or
CD.
One caveat I must mention:This small USB powered TV tuner thumb
size device runs very HOT!Mine stopped working after only 3 weeks
of occaisional use.The company is sending me a replacement but I
would still recommend this product to any Mac user!It is that
good!Hey, I might buy another just to have one on spare in case the
first one craps out again.I'll not entertain another TiVo purchase
with computer products like these available.
Oh yea, to those PC users out there; I was a Microsoft user since
the DOS days (for 20+ years) and I switched to a Mac and never
looked back!No more spyware and virus downloads or blue screens of
death!Mac OS X is so much better than Microsoft could ever hope to
be and Apple's next Leopard update will make Microsoft's Vista
users enviously wanting to switch. This may be just my opinion, but
it is a solid one.

(More customer reviews)Sony DAV-HDX576WF
Home Theater System
Overview:
Another "Home Theater in a Box" design (HTIB), the Sony
DAV-HDX576WF tries to be all things to all people and does
satisfactorily in some areas and poorly in others, so a mixed bag.
The basic components are the following:
(1) Receiver (Main Unit). You get a basic 5.1 surround sound
receiver facilitating six sources or inputs: DVD, TUNER, AUX,
SAT/CABLE, TV, and DMPORT. The DVD player and AM/FM tuner are built
in to the receiver. These internal sources in more detail are
configured as follows:
* DVD: The internal DVD has five trays to hold five DVDs or CDs.
The DVD outputs 5.1 surround sound through the 576 wireless
surround sound speaker system, and outputs video three ways: HDMI,
component, or composite. You can use the DVD/CD player to play
Data-CD or Data-DVD disks that have MP3 song files or JPEG image
files.
* TUNER: The internal FM tuner stores 20 stations, and the AM tuner
stores 10. Reception is strong and clear if the antennas are
positioned well.
The other four sources facilitated by the receiver are external
(AUX, SAT/CABLE, TV, DMPORT). Three of the four external sources
are audio only (AUX, SAT/CABLE, TV). One is both audio and video
(DMPORT), but the video is composite quality only. Of these four
external sources, one is accessed on the front panel (AUX) and the
remaining three on the back. The types of external source inputs
are as follows:
* AUX: front input, miniature stereo phono (audio only)
* SAT/CABLE: RCA stereo (audio only)
* TV: RCA stereo, or digital coaxial, or digital optical (audio
only)
* DMPORT: proprietary connection for MP3 player dock (audio and
video)
Note that the three output ports on the back of the 576 are: (1)
video only, and (2) hardwired internally to just the DVD player =
are not configurable to output any other sources (except the
composite also can output from the MP3 player). To repeat for
clarity and emphasis on the three video outputs:
* Digital HDMIOut (internal DVD only, video only)
* Component Y-Pb/Cb-Pr/Cr Out (internal DVD only)
* Composite RCA Out (internal DVD or MP3 player only)
Finally, you do have one other out port, the miniature stereo phono
headphones connection on the front of the 576. Using this
connection mutes all the external speakers, naturally.
(2) Speakers. You get a 5.1 surround sound speaker set, the front
stereo pair on stands, a ported, passive subwoofer, and two smaller
surround speakers that are wired to a small amp that communicates
with the main amp wirelessly. Thus, be aware that you need an AC
outlet near where you want to put the surround speakers for the
surround amp. Connections are bare wires into all speakers, marked
for polarity, but color-coded plugs into the main unit that fit
only one way to insure proper polarity. The front stereo speaker
stands have to be assembled, which takes a little time, with one
part about threading the wire into the stand not quite so obvious.
Once all connections are made, setup goes fairly well. The
autocalibration mic has plenty of cord (perhaps 13-14 feet) to work
even a large den. The mic at least gets the estimated distances
pretty good, but the individual speaker level settings were way
off. I had to go back and redo all levels manually. I did this
autocalibration several times just to make sure I had not missed
anything, and every time I still had to adjust the levels of the
speakers manually. You might have to do this as well.
(3) Wireless Surround. Surround sound to the rear speakers is
wireless. The main unit comes with a wireless transceiver that
broadcasts surround audio on the 2.4 GHz band to the surround amp
wireless receiver. The surround amp is quite oddly shaped, to be
honest (over a foot long! 13.5" x 3.5" x 4" LxWxH). The surround
speakers, in fact, are wired. That is, these speakers are hooked
into this oddly shaped surround amp by running speaker wires from
wherever the surround amp is to each speaker's terminals. Hence,
the surround sound is only "partially" wireless. Also, seems that
Sony has not provided enough wire really to run the speakers,
especially not if you have to do something like go up and over a
door frame. I had to add a length of my own speaker wire to get to
a corner just 12 feet away as the crow flies. Setting up the
wireless system is straightforward, and, following instructions
carefully, goes without a hitch. You have three ID switches (A, B,
C) to choose from to match up among your wireless units (to
distinguish from other possible S-AIR units in the neighborhood,
but the conflict could hardly occur given limitations of range,
unless in a small apartment).
(4) Digital Media Port Adaptor. This is a fancy name for an MP3
dock. The dock is connected to the main unit via a proprietary
cable that carries audio and video (composite quality only). Though
advertised for Apple iPod, the unit basically really is for Sony
products. The main unit's remote controls many elements of the MP3
transport (Play, Stop, Pause, Track Forward, Track Back) and menu
(Previous Menu, Next Menu, Up Folder/Item, Down Folder/Item).
(5) S-AIR Receiver. This wireless unit looks like a table radio,
and that basically is its function. You have a small,
self-amplified stereo speaker system that receives its sound from
the 576 main unit. You can set up the S-AIR unit in two modes:
* "Party Mode." The S-AIR joins in with the main unit and tunes in
whatever the main unit is doing.
* "Separate Mode." The S-AIR operates independently of the main
unit.
Buttons on the top of the S-AIR unit control transport functions of
the source dialed in on the S-AIR when in "Separate Mode." For
example, if someone is watching a DVD movie on the main unit in the
den, someone else in a different room with the S-AIR receiver
theoretically could be listening to the main unit's FM tuner and
changing stations, or can be listening to a playlist on the MP3
player in the main unit's MP3 dock and controlling transport, such
as play, pause, stop, previous and next track. Finally, the S-AIR
even can function when the main unit is off (in "Standby" mode).
This option is set in the main unit's system menu.
Evaluation:
(1) Audio. The sound is generally satisfactory, being smooth and
fairly accurate if the bass is not pushed. Good, flat sound overall
probably is the chief factor that sets this HTIB apart from others
in the class. Two caveats apply, one minor, the other more
serious.
* Subwoofer. First, on the minor side, the passive subwoofer is
decent for musical frequencies, even though still a little soft and
muddled for my tastes (not quite punchy enough). This subwoofer,
however, is at a distinct disadvantage with handling the boom,
thunder, and roar of low frequency movie sound effects.
Fortunately, I just happened to have a Velodyne CT-100 active
subwoofer lying around that has sophisticated circuitry allowing
speaker level inputs with audio pass through. So I took the speaker
level subwoofer out from the Sony 576 straight into the Velodyne,
then passed through the same signal on out to the Sony passive
subwoofer. (In this way the Sony amp sees no extra impedence load
at all, so is completely unaware of the Velodyne's existence in the
circuitry.) I have the Velodyne set to kick in only at those lower
frequencies for movie sound effects, and the Sony subwoofer
handling just the higher musical frequencies. With this adaptation,
I am more satisfied with the audio performance, especially action
movies. Your requirements and tastes may be different.
* Equalization. Though the 576's sound is generally OK, just a
little dash of EQ would have gone a long way to really making her
shine. One distinct downside to the 576 is that the audio allows no
EQ settings of any kind anywhere--not even those cheap presets
found on many HTIB (such as "Rock," "Classical," "Easy Listening,"
"Stadium," "Theater"). The user has no option to adjust any EQ.
This inability is quite significant given that any room anywhere of
any size and configuration will have its own "sound print"
(frequency difficiencies) de facto that need to be compensated for
to have accurate, clean sound.
(2) Wireless. The S-AIR wireless system broadcasts on the 2.4 GHz
band. When some 576 users reported no conflict with their 2.4 GHz
wireless computer networks, I thought I was free and clear. Not so.
The S-AIR circuitry is supposed to search out a clearer signal in
its frequency range to avoid such conflicts, but mine just did not
work. I definitely had wireless conflicts with my computer network,
and the S-AIR never did get happy until I completely relocated my
computer wireless setup. Therefore, I would advise caution about
consideration of this HTIB with its wireless surround if you are
running anything wireless at 2.4 GHz in the same room or nearby
(including phones).
(3) S-AIR Receiver. All sounds very promising with this S-AIR
receiver, which is sort of like a remote radio, but reality bites.
I found the S-AIR unit in the end a poor system and rather useless.
I will mention several critical items that seemed to doom the unit
for my use anyway:
* Performance. The S-AIR unit really does not work well. The
maximum reception distance is 25-27 feet, and that is line of
sight. Somewhere between 27-30 feet, the unit no longer can lock in
the signal. I can lock in from my den to my dinette wetbar, which
is about 27 feet and line of sight. If I move just a few feet more
to the AC socket on the far dinette wall, about 30 feet, the unit
simply refuses to lock in. My two cordless phones in the den and
dinette are 900 MHz, so not in conflict. To facilitate the wireless
of the 576, I moved my 2.4 GHz computer wireless network out of the
den due to conflicts between the computer wireless and the...Read

(More customer reviews)The screw driven
opener performs very well. Operation is quiet and smooth. The
computer's logic and sensors ensures the opener will avoid
"crushing" incidents. The lightweight rail is easy to assemble and
stronger then expected.I used Locktite medium strength to ensure
nuts would not vibrate off.The lack of vibration made the Locktite
superfluous.
The manual was clearly written.Providing the installation steps are
followed, the system is easy to install in a half a day. Please make
sure your door is balanced as explained in the manual. You do need a
6 ft. "A" frame ladder. Manuals can be previewed (to see if you

(More customer reviews)I had been in the
market for a set of inexpensive bookshelf speakers when I stumbled
across this brand new model Sony system at a local retailer. For the
price, this unit is pretty hard to beat, with a fairly extensive
feature list and only a few drawbacks.
This unit is the brand new "step up" to the popular HDX265 model
system. The speakers are the same, but this unit adds digital dolby
decoding, additional digital input capability (important for
decoding Digital Dolby from satellite or cable boxes) and support
for the new "S-AIR" system that allows wireless connectivity to
other rooms in the home.
Sound quality from this setup is good, although not impressive if
you are used to higher end sound from seperate components.Certainly
good enough for use in a bedroom or other application (I put this
in a small workout room).Sound quality is better than most shelf
systems in the same price range and should give most other
all-in-one-box systems a good run for their money.
Setup is extremely simple with color coded wires for all of the
different speakers.Unfortunately the wires terminate to special
connectors that plug into the back of the main unit. This would make
extending/replacing the wires a pain.The unit includes a microphone
and a nifty auto-calibration feature that sets all of the speaker
levels correctly with a few taps on the remote control.
The remote control itself is handy, but on the cheap side.. it's
pretty basic but gets the job done.It will control all of the unit
functions and even allow for basic control of an iPod that is
connected to the included iPod dock. The remote control can also be
programmed to control most model TVs.
DVD output from this unit is very good and the HDMI output is great
for quick and easy cabling to an HDMI equipped flat panel HDTV.DVD
startup and controls were quite snappy and the unit can hold up to
5 CDs or DVD in the built in cartridge. The unit will up-convert DVD
to 1080P resolution over the HDMI output. While not nearly as good
looking as my Blu-Ray player, it will still look quite good on most
small to medium sized TVs.
The best features of this unit are the HDMI output, extra inputs
(one digital and one analog), iPod dock (which works with the
remote control) and DVD up-conversion.
There are drawbacks, as there always are with these all-in-one
deals. The iPod dock doesn't have any onscreen output or control,
which is a bit of a drag since you can't see what's on the iPod
screen from across the room. The main unit is physically quite deep
(about 15 inches) which means it won't fit on smaller shelves. Also
annoying is the lack of any bass or treble control.
The unit has two sound modes, "movie" and "music" and a bass
enhancer (which I turned off as it made the bass sound boomy and
obnoxious for music listening). There is no stereo 5.1 mode which
would allow for output to all 5 speakers from regular stereo
sources like an iPod.Instead the unit has a 4 channel matrix mode
that uses the main, rear and subwoofer speakers for stereo. This is
kind of a shame since the center channel speaker is the clearest
sounding one of the bunch. The center channel does sound decent when
watching or listening to TV and DVD sources.
Overall I can safely give this system 4 stars. The sound is quite
good for a sub $300 system, the DVD player with up-conversion is
great, and the unit has just enough flexibility through the extra
inputs and wireless add-on options to be useable for quite some
time.Certainly it fits the bill as a stereo/DVD-player for my
workout room.
//update as of 4/23/2008.
A couple of other little nit picks discovered with this sytem.I've
discovered that the sound mode, bass and other settings aren't
memorized per input. In other words if you are watching a DVD and
have the sound mode in "movie" and have the bass turned up and then
switch the input to the one for the iPod it is still in the same
sound mode. This is a bit inexcusable considering that even dirt
cheap budget AV receivers can remember the settings for each input
seperately.

(More customer reviews)I received my 90 lb
box containing my Onkyo HT-S6100 Home Theatre system from
OneCall.com for $666.00 shipped. Took about 7 days to arrive,
double boxed. Connected immediately and worked properly. Make sure
you go through the menu prompts on the screen of your TV to verify
all speakers are working. One of my speakers was not working
correctly because I did not connect it properly. I would not have
known if it were not for the testing ability from one of the on
screen menu items. Pay attention to the colors on the wiring as
they match the colored circles on the back of the receiver. (nice
touch). The volume knob does not have the lit blue ring on the
circumference which I was expecting.(The subwoofer was bigger than
expected and has a lit led on the front to let you know it is
getting a proper signal and glows in blue. The remote control does
not light so you may want to get a fully lit unified remote such as
my favorite, the harmony one (the newest one out) for 199.00
anywhere. Don't buy any of Harmony's other remotes with the raised
oval keys because they hurt your fingers after much use. The Onkyo
HT-S 6100 HTIB performed exactly as planned. I am using it with 4
devices. It is connected to my TIVO Series 3 HD, Apple TV, Sony BDP
300 Blue Ray and Nintendo Wii. All sounds are moving properly from
the various components to the receiver and coming out of the
speakers with no lip sync problems. I have not had any hissing,
popping, signal ugliness or processing voodoo. I previously had a
Samsung HTIB and I did have signal, both video and audio weirdness,
maybe because it was HDMI 1.1. The Samsung HTIB with HDMI in and
out worked fine as long as I didnt plug anything in to it otherwise
it was finicky with other HDMI components. My current TV is the Sony
60 inch KDS 60 XBR HD 1080i rear projection model that was a top
choice about 18 months ago. The Onkyo HT-S 6100 works perfectly and
the sound is definitely a significant step up from my previous
Samsung HTIB. In fact, on audiophile recordings using a lossless
music file streaming through Apple TV on an HDMI connection I was
surprised by the smoothness and detail of the sound
reproduction. The only things that bug me are: lack of THX
certification, unlit remote, would like a larger more contemporary
readout screen on the receiver, wish the speakers were heavier, and
came with proper stands. I ordered the proper Onkyo stands, 6 of
them from Amazon for 300.00 shipped. I called Onecall back after
seeing the Onkyo HTS 6100 cheaper at JR Music and they credited me
44.00. The owners manual is 100 pages in English and you must
remember to do the microphone supplied calibration process. I
noticed no video degradation running all signals through the
receiver however when changing from one HDMI component to another,
such as from TIVo to Apple TV or BluRay DVD, there is a HDMI
handshake delay of a few seconds before new signal both audio and
video begin to operate. The Receiver when turning on or off gives
off a distinct mechanical sound letting you know it is turning on
or off which I call positive feedback and appreciate. Onecall.com
people were pleasant to deal with and the owners manual while
lengthy is a suggested read. Remember to plug everything in before
you plug in the receiver and turn it on. Immediately go to the
onscreen menu choices and get oriented to all the menu items so you
will know what is going on. I am glad to get a HDMI repeater rather
than a pass through as I am able to finally get HDMI simplicity and
get rid of my optical cable and lip sync issues. I have seen this
item advertised for $500.00 and highly recommend. This item is
almost good enough to make me want to get rid of my better, but
more complicated and grossly overpriced audiophile equipment. I am
surprised there is any profit for the manufacturer or the retailer
considering all the components and their performance. I feel like I
have made a smart decision because had I bought expensive home
theatre items 18 months ago I would have been unhappy every time
there were an upgrade. Things like HDMI 1.3, the new audio formats,
the microphone calibration, the upscaling, the repeater VS
passthrough issue. I don't think you can justify spending thousands
when you can buy a disposable system for 500.00 and upgrade every 2
or 3 years.

(More customer reviews)We just set this up
in our 500 square foot living room over the holidays. And its been
working perfectly. Lots of features, power and flexibilty for the
price. We also combined it with the Rocketfish Wireless Surround
Speakers for total Home Theater Effect!
Set Up: Was simple. Being our first 5.1 System, the copious amount
of wiring threw us off at first but we soon had everything
connected and tucked neatly away.
Sound and Play Back: 250 Watts may not seem like alot but it fills
the 500 square foot space with "rich" sound. Meaning we do not need
the TV or Radio turned all the way up loud to hear all the features
in the sound. At lowto middlevolume the sounds from Movies and TV
shows come clearly thru each channel, with the rear surround
speakers working perfectly in harmony to provide the extra effects.
The subwoofer and Center Channel Speakers are also very clear and
loud.
Features: DVD/FM-AM/CD/USB connector for iPod & MP3 Players/AUX
input for Cable box all work well. I love how it quickly burns CDs
right to your MP3 players without having to turn on the computer
and dealing with ripping the CD first to your computer's hard drive
before installing the tracks onto your MP3 Player. The 5 DVD Tray
loads quickly and you can switch between any 5 DVDs/CDs during
playback and always go back to where you left off. The FM/AM
antenna could've been better and longer but we still get the
stations clear. You can easily purchase a better antenna or just
get Siruis/XM radio. You can also modify the preset modes easily
between Stereo, Surround, SubWoofer, and Equalizer settings which
is good and adds flexibilty for what you are using the system
for.
Quality and Design: The reason I picked this up was that it was
smaller than other similar systems and the design was clean, simple
and non-obstrusive. The quality of the plastics, metal and wiring
is really good for what the system costs. also the wires are all
color coded and easy to follow. It was on par, if not better, than
what I saw and experienced from the other $900-$3000 systems sold
at the store. PROS:
Very clear and balanced Sound, top notch build quality, easy set
up, Tons of features, makes 250 Watts sound like 1000 Watts when
set up properly in a 500 square foot living room, Surround Sound
theater effects are awesome, DVD playback much quicker and has more
features that other pricier systems. Small and Sleek housing and
speakers.
CONS:
FM/AM antenna could've been better. Could've used another one or
two extra Audio-In ports for Videogame consoles or other devices.
(This isnt a problem for us...but I can see it being a problem for
the person with alot of gadgets that need to be hooked up to one
sound system)
BOTTOM LINE: I totally reccomend this system to anyone that wants
something simple, sleek and very functional. And if you don't need
a million watts in your home and just want a clean crisp and rich
sound without the wires and bulk then this is perfect for you.

(More customer reviews)I've been
researching 40-42" HD TVs for months, looking for the ideal match
for my needs that fit my budget of under $1,000. I looked at
plasmas, 120Hz LCDs, 40", 42", Sharp, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung,
Vizio, Westinghouse, and LG.
I finally found it - on sale for almost two-hundred off (exactly
eight-hundred-and-nine dollars). Would still be a great value at a
thousand dollars.
I'd rather have too much control than too little with my
electronics. The 42LH30 delivers all the control I want and more,
but it also provides several nice presets for the type of content
I'm watching (movies, sports, games, standard). It also lets me
build 2 presets myself for exactly what I want. I can be picky or I
can be lazy and still get a great picture for any situation.
The 50,000 dynamic contract ratio and 5ms refresh speed make for a
superb picture/performance combo.
I was very close to going with a 120Hz 42" Vizio. They have been
getting decent reviews. When the LG 42lh30 went on sale, it was a
deal I could not refuse.
Some things I really like.
1) Outstanding picture (no compromises with colors)
2) Great performance (sports and movies don't judder at all so
far)
3) Energy Star (several low power modes - I love flexibility)
4) Lighter than most (easy to hang on wall - I use an articulating
arm)
5) Anti-glare awesomeness (I have lots of windows in my 3-seasons
room)
6) Outstanding PC screen (when I just have to surf on the 42")
7) Upconverting DVDs look phenomenal (blu-ray player is next
purchase)
8) Sound is more than acceptable on TV (I usually output audio to
my Home Theater system if I will be watching for more than a few
minutes)
Things I would change:
1) Only 3 HDMI ports (Fine for me now with cable box, DVD player,
and PC)
2) I'd prefer a matte black bezel instead of a gloss finish
3) Maybe add an SD-card reader (my DVD player has SD and USB
reader, fortunately)

(More customer reviews)I just purchased
this system 2 days ago and let me tell you it is a BLAST! Though
you have to do some tweeking to bring out the full potential of
this system. I read some of the previous reviews for this system
and let me tell you some of the other buyers of this system did not
know how to use this system. First of all the 320 watt subwoofer is
fully adustable. So you have to adjust it up to level 4 then press
the heavy bass button to bring out it's full potential. Next you
need to go under system quick setup, then audio, then speakers and
adjust them up to 5.0 ms to bring then up to speed.
After that you need to press the surround music button which will
really fill your room with awesome surround sound. And last but not
least you CAN use this system as audio while watching daily tv
programs as well. What you have to do is run an auxiliary cable(red
and white) from the aux slot on the back of the receiver/dvd player
to the aux slot on the back of your tv. Then you press the ext-in
button until it says aux. And boom! You have theatre sound for your
daily viewing. I can't get enough of this system. It really blew
away my expectations once I finished tweaking it.After some minor
tweaking this system really thumps on level 30 yet it can go all
the way up to level 50. It really shines on cd's and radio. Also
sounds great on dvd's as well. Good surround sound for daily
viewing. Can't wait to play some xbox on it as well. So to any
potential buyers breezing through this review and thinking about it
getting this system I can promise you won't be dissapointed. Grab

(More customer reviews)Yes, I agree with
the other reviews so far that the 32-inch Samsung is simply the
best TV of its size.Did extensive side-by-side viewings before
buying it, and it worked and looked perfect right out of the
box.
Speaking of "right out of the box," why doesn't Amazon mention the
outstanding delivery service by Pilot Freight? The unit was promised
in four days, they called and asked if they could deliver it in
three. They had two people bring it in, unpack it and set it up,
plug the set into the cable box and plug the DVD player into the
set, turn everything on and verify that it all worked. They showed
me how to use the control, cleaned up everything and removed all of
the packing and clutter.Great job, far better than expected. Both
the set and the unexpected white glove delivery service are
superb.
