(More customer reviews)I chose a top-element dehydrator as it's easier to clean (no drips onto the bottom element.) This dehydrator has sturdy, slightly flexible plastic trays. It's a bit noisy; when the heat goes on there is a whine I don't like, and the fan of course is noisy too. So making dehydrated foods (takes hours) needs a separate room, maybe the cellar.
The price is right on this dehydrator, but you need sheets for making jerky and fruit leathers. They aren't included (that's the minus-a-star) but you can pick them up at kitchen supply stores.

(More customer reviews)First off, I have very little doubt that Newman's Own wet cat food is an excellent and healthy choice to feed one's cat.Feeding a cat a quality food, even if expensive compared to other catfoods, is worthwhile and if it prevents one health problem might even pay for itself.For those reasons, and because I support Newman's ideals in general, my cat has had the pleasure of enjoying many cans of Newman's food.

However, in comparison to other cat foods in this price range, my cat does have a couple of complaints.I should mention that my cat LOVES to eat, it is his primary motivation in life.Need him to take a pill?Just coat it in wet food and drop it in his dish.But, because he likes to eat so much, he must also have controlled portions - 1/3 can, twice a day.And that leads to his first complaint.Open a can of Newman's, and there is a lot of empty space, around the food and even large open cracks in the food.There certainly isn't the volume of solid food in a 5.5 oz can of Newman's compared to the competition.The second complaint: Newman seems to love his brown rice, which is ok, but he keeps the grains big and whole.My cat loves food, and cleans his dish every time... but he usually eats right around those big grains of rice.

Basically, my cat isn't getting as much food from a can of Newman's as from his favorite brands (Nature's Logic and Innova EVO), so we'll be cutting Newman out of the rotation.

I've been working with a cat with an enlarged liver from not eating a home cooked diet, and it's taking a bit of trial and error to find something he will eat in significant quantity - although not too much at once since he's just starting to kind of recover. I have no doubt that if I let him he would overeat on this dry formula, it's just that good. I have also tried the canned version of this food before and other cats liked it.

A side note: Be VERY careful with vets that advocate a home cooked, raw or even just a wet/canned food diet. It's not that they don't know what they're talking about or it's wrong, that's not the point. The point is you need a REALITY CHECK and communicate well enough to know how well it can be executed by the pets guardian. I've been working with a holistic vet here for years and at this point I am not going back for this reason, I have reason to believe perhaps more than one animal I have died prematurely due to general ignorance about what's on the market. (why they ask you what is being fed when they don't know what's in those products, and WON'T CHECK I'll never know.)

This of course largely extends to ALL vets, guess what - Hills A/D is NOT the final word in this kind of situation! If any of them are reading this please let me be perfectly clear: KNOW WHAT IS ON THE MARKET, maybe even right down the street from you! You're in the business, you SHOULD know this and there are plenty of good products now. You have NO business saying all commercially prepared food is bad when you are not up on what is out there, even if there is going to be SOME preservatives and such. Besides, that is what most people do - they buy a food rather than cook for their animal!

Yes, IDEALLY, IN A PERFECT WORLD maybe they can be on the best home cooked raw food diet, but especially when they go on a hunger strike like this you need to find whatever they'll eat! A vet that is off half the week and communicates through their receptionist may be okay if you go in for general maintenance care, but clearly they cannot be relied on when time is a factor and sorry, they're just not in the office and even when they are if they're too busy they would have their reception person call, a person that is not medically trained that does not appreciating the import of a cat losing 2 oz of weight a DAY. Don't buy into the marketing gimmick that the word "holistic" or any other nice imagery makes everything better. I was in the (human) holistic care business in the past and I deeply regret not being more savvy about people who sell themselves under this holistic banner but really are not good practitioners in this regard, even if they have better knowledge in some areas.

After researching online, I decided to try this instead of making a trip to the vet. I dont like to pump meds into me or my animals for no reason. Lots of what I read said they naturally get better from kennel cough & meds dont help. The dogs took this for about a week & they were back to normal.

Im not sure if it was this product or natural passage of time but I would get it again. Much cheaper than a vet visit for 2 dogs! Keep in mind they were not showing any another signs of illness or I would have gone to vet.

The nutritional value breakdown is good (36% protein etc.) It is completely grain free and uses regional animals and plants in the food so that everything is freshly prepared and can best match a cat's natural feeding ground. My cats are also fed wet grain free food so I can't attribute their shiny coat, and well developed lean muscles to acana exclusively, but it has contributed.

(More customer reviews)I have a pretty picky cat, but she loves this cat food. I love it too because it's in small cans, so the leftovers don't sit in the fridge for more than a day. No off flavors or smells get a chance to develop. My cat absolutely hates the pre-formed chunks, shreds, etc. She only likes natural fish flakes, and that's what this product provides. The only thing similar is Trader Joe's 100% tuna. It's a great buy, but you need to live near a Trader Joe's, and the cans are larger. So sometimes I'd have to throw out the leftover food because it didn't get eaten fast enough. A local pet store carried the Tiki Cat Ahi Tuna, so I was able to purchase it there. Sadly, they've stopped carrying it, but I'm happy to have found an internet source.

My over wieght boy has slimmed down quite a bit since switching him to only wet food and this brand (mostly, I also feed them some EVO cans as well). One of my favorite things about it is that it doesn't contain any grains, not even rice, and is relatively inexpensive for a quality brand. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking to feed their cats a great diet, but don't have the time or money to feed raw.

(More customer reviews)I used to feed both of my cats a different brand name cat food that was supposed to be for those kitties with sensitive tummies, and it was okay, but this Pinnacle cat food has the other brand beat hands down.

We have been feeding our cats this food for about a year now and we have been having a lot fewer instances of upset tummies compared to the incidents we were having prior to switching over to this brand of cat food.

Both of our cats love it even though only one of them has a sensitive tummy issue. Initially, it took a couple of weeks of mixing the old cat food with the new Pinnacle cat food and then slowly eliminated the old cat food until they were just eating the new Pinnacle cat food. Now my cat will stick his head in the bowl and eat a hole to the bottom before working his way around the edges of the bowl. Quite funny to watch actually! Ha Ha Ha

My other cat is a strange one indeed, he will get a mouthful of food and then walk a couple of steps away from the bowl, drop the food onto the ground and the proceed to eat it from the ground. Not quite sure what is going on with that.

Anyhow, I would highly recommend this brand of cat food for your kitty if he or she has a sensitive tummy. And don't worry about the price; it is an investment in the health of your furry four-legged children, as all of us good parents know. And if you haven't already purchased one of these for your kitty Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain, be sure and do so, it is the absolute best cat water fountain on the market at this time.

(More customer reviews)I adopted Layla as an older cat (~7yrs), and she had chronic diarrhea and was underweight, but also a finicky eater. My vet prescribed special IBS canned food, which Layla hated with a passion, so in an effort to coax her to eat, I would let her eat cheap gravy food (the only food she kind of liked) along with shredded chicken I would cook. This was either hit or miss with her, and I frequently ended up wasting food because she either flat-out refused to eat it or wouldn't eat all of it. Even with frequent vet visits and medicine, Layla proceeded to get sicker with her IBS, and out of desperation, I ordered the Paw Lickin' Chicken along with some other flavors. Layla absolutely adores it!!!! It looks and smells like human food, and is clearly high quality (it looks exactly like the picture). The other cheaper food would sometimes make me gag at its consistency and the poor quality of the meat, but Weruva is wonderful! It is high in water content, so I know Layla is staying hydrated, and it's also so easy to wash out of the bowl, unlike gravy food or pate. The other thing I've noticed is that Layla doesn't need as much food to stay satiated. She eats about three 3.0 ounce cans a day, and has no problem with grazing on them throughout the day, which she wouldn't do with the other food.

Economically speaking, yes, Weruva is a more expensive food ounce for ounce, but the money I save on waste actually makes Weruva cheaper for me. Plus, when you compare the price to the quality of the food you receive, Weruva is a far better purchase than the more popular high-end cat food (which cost the same). However, the most important point is that I now have a very happy cat without IBS symptoms, who is finally gaining weight, and this is priceless to me =).

If you are savvy enough to know when you have what, you may want to know that the exact same antibiotic is available to dope your fish tank and retard the growth of unhealthy bacteria. And you won't go to the pharmacy and pay $50 to $100 for 30 to 50 caplets. This is a bottle of 100 caplets for less than $28 or, at least it was when I reordered from the vet supply house that ships it.

I found it very helpful to get them something to sit on that got them closer to the screen. They particularly like vol. 2 with all the birds. My husband and I watched them watching the video, but then we began watching it and found it very soothing and relaxing, almost a meditative experience. So I would have to say it was a great entertaining buy for the whole "family" !!
