MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck the
central Philippines on Monday, killing a child and triggering a
local tsunami alert. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and
Seismology issued the tsunami alert for the central Philippines,
saying the quake, which hit in a narrow strait just off Negros
Island, could trigger a 3-foot (1-meter) wave along the island’s
eastern coast as well as west of Cebu City, the country’s second
largest. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a wider
regional warning. The US Geological Survey said the quake was
centered 44 miles (72 kilometers) north of Dumaguete city on
Negros and hit at a depth of 29 miles (46 kilometers).

topic:most interesting person…5 paragraphs min. any experts here? please grade me or give me help. i need a pass not a fail
I chose to write about my Grandfather as my most interesting
person. His name is Joseph, or just “Grandpa Joe”, and a more
interesting person you will never meet. My fascinating
grandfather currently resides in Florida, where he is enjoying
his well-deserved retirement. He is currently 82 years old and
chalk full of knowledge. We have a lot of things in common. We
both enjoy history, books, music, movies, sports and being out
doors. I like to look up to him as a role model. Grandpa Joe is
quite active in his entire favorite past times. He loves to watch
sports, and his favorite teams are from Boston. His favorite
player growing up was John Havlicek from the Boston Celtics. As a
child, I remember how he described going to a Celtics game as a
kid. I love learning about miscellaneous sports info. Tickets
were only 50 cents compared to today’s prices. That really sticks
out to me as a memory. He is chalk full of sports knowledge.
Grandpa Joe is also an athlete as well. On his off time, you will
catch him swimming or doing water aerobics at the YMCA. He also
loves to collect classic cult movies on DVD or even on VHS. I
like to be a movie buff too, and am amazed what a collection he
has. The movies range from “Citizen’s Kane” to “The Shawshank
Redemption” to mobster hit film “GoodFellas”. Anything from
dramatic to romance you’ll find in his massive movie collection.
I always go to him for a movie review. Nobody likes spending
dollarsignr12.50 on a bad movie at a theater. My grandfather is a
proud veteran of the Korean War. He served under the 1st Marine
Division for two years from 1951-1953. He served in Seoul to
fight at the time Soviet Russia and North Korea. The heavy
fighting continued until the negotiated truce took effect on July
27, 1953. He speaks of how grueling war can be. We both share a
common interest in US history. He earned a lot of military badges
while serving in the Korean War. As a child, those were very
memorable to look at. He is also active around his senior
citizens community. He loves to play shuffleboard and play a game
of hearts with his pals. He also has a good knowledge with
computers. I try to stay in contact with him via e-mail. I’ll
send him articles for local news or how the New England Patriots
are doing. I find my grandfather to be really important to
me.
