I got this bodhran for Christmas and have been
practicing roughly for about a week and a half. Any
suggestions are welcome! I want to improve, so just
keep the nasty comments to yourself. Thanks!

www.yourworldinstruments.com - You get wide
selections of your bodhran drums especially when you
desire to play this ethnic musical instrument. The beat
and rythm of a bodhran is slightly distinctive and
unique than other forms of drums.

Day one, raw beginner with a bodhran. I've looked
at some videos, read some webpages, played around, and
thought I'd really like it if someone put up this
video, what it looks like to really start from scratch.
All the players I've seen, even the beginners, have
already got enough rhythm to discourage me. I read on
one site that it can take a couple of weeks of just
mindlessly banging the tipper in a pattern before you
start seeing results. For me and for others equally
raw, I'm showing how basic it starts. By next year I
hope to have gotten better and posted snapshots of my
progress for those who come after.

How do you stop a tipper from slipping! Learn
bodhran with me! I'm a beginner, too.

First, watch IrishKauck's video: www.youtube.com
Then come back. Playing a jig is easy as lemon sqeezey.
The rubber band (elastic) I use on my tipper is from
some asparagus. Eat your vegetables! Don't wrap too
much! One layer should be enough and tie it off. Too
much will rub the skin off your finger (as I know
now).

Thanks to www.youtube.com I learned some
technique and applied it. This is FAR from a PERFECT
performance, but it's also not entirely awful either.
Only had it two days! Watch my face 'cause I know when
I screw up. Also this is just a random song off the
Irish Pub Songs channel of AOL Radio. I never played to
it before just now. I know it's not great, so insults
don't affect me. Plus I'm drinking whiskey now and
ignoring your negativity. Posted this to let other
beginners know it's not hopeless, and don't try to
over-complicate it. It's a drum - have fun!

OK, not sure if this is better than at a week and
a half, but it FEELS like it... Two new drums and
tippers on the way.....THEN we can compare those to
whacking the wall hanging... I want to document in
video my development as a player both to inspire new
players a little bit and to watch how my own skills
grow over time, assuming they will.....

Only one day later, after a disappointing and
spastic end to a day with too much drumming, I'm
shocked to find myself getting some control and
pleasure from the drumming during my 30 min practice
session. I was able to play along with music and enjoy
it. After that I made this short and admittedly dull
clip to show you that indeed, although simple, there's
a hint of pattern and rhythm going on.

A quick, easy way to get started on your djembe.
Based on 8 strikes of the drum, this starts slow and
builds to a steady pattern.

A little friendly, if unskilled, whacking of the
afternoon goat, with a beater/tipper from Brian
LeTorneau...it is a beauty and you should look him up
at Brian's Beaters....
