Lexus driver in Rochor crash
charged
By Alvina Soh | Posted: 30 May 2012 1229 hrs
SINGAPORE: The driver of a Lexus car involved in an accident with
two other cars at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street
was charged in court on Wednesday.
Kelvin Seah Koon Yong, 30, faced two charges of drink-driving and
dangerous driving.
His vehicle hit a taxi and a car at the junction of Rochor Road and
Victoria Street after he allegedly beat the red light early in the
morning on May 26.
A passenger in the taxi was sent to hospital and received
outpatient treatment.
The accident happened at the same place where a Ferrari sports car
crashed into a taxi and a motorcycle on May 12, claiming three
lives.
Seah, who is self-employed, turned up in court with his father who
yelled at reporters and photographers.
Seah said he was not engaging a lawyer.
His case will be heard again on June 13.
If convicted of drink-driving, he may be disqualified from driving
for up to a year.
First-time offenders can be fined between S$1,000 and S$5,000, or
jailed up to six months.

I realise tat alot of bros are into MY petrol n grocery, thus
thinking of consolidation all info into one thread.
Let me get the lobangs starting...
As we all know ron97 now at RM2.50, alt way is to pump ron95 @

I know people will say rm2.50 still cheap,
but bros out there who have been pumping MY petrol sld have feel
the pain right?
The caltex pump (opp esso n shell) near pelangi plaza, if u build
rapport with the cashier, smile smile, offer him cigs...
after a few weeks, pumping ron95 is not an issue! I normally go in
wkday ard 11pm with a group of frens...
Anther thing is to use maybank C.C (singapore issued), can get
additional 5% cashback on petrol pumped in MY.
Anyone with lobangs to chip in?

Hi, my dad is interested in these 2 cars. Just for an example of
the exact spec and models, below are 2 links:
C4
Focus
As for the Focus, we are open to either the hatchback or the sedan
version.
Priorities are mainly reliability, fuel consumption and again,
reliability. As he has spent almost 10k on repairs on his current
car. I know for reliability, one should choose jap cars like
toyota, honda etc. but my dad likes something different.
I know these 2 models are quite low on power, but still drivable i
guess. Read up abit and concluded that the focus is more of a fun
car as in handling and the C4 is very comfortable.
Any one can advise on any of these 2 models regarding reliability
and maintainance issues? your feedback will very much be
appreciated. Thanks!

Oil prices down, but pump prices
still high
Published on May 19, 2012
OIL prices have dropped by an average of 10 per cent since April,
but the prices of petrol and diesel, as well as liquefied petroleum
gas (LPG) cylinders for home use, have not seen a similar
decrease.
Meanwhile, major oil companies are posting multibillion-dollar
profits for their first quarter this year.
I wonder why the Consumers Association of Singapore has been silent
about the development.
Interestingly, in July 2008 when the Brent crude price was US$147
per barrel, our pump price for Mogas 95 unleaded was $2.236 per
litre before discount.
On May 8 this year, the Brent crude price was down to US$111.24 per
barrel, while our pump price for Mogas 95 unleaded was $2.17 per
litre before discount.
What's more, over the past four years, the Singapore dollar has
strengthened against the US dollar, from 1.55 to 1.25.
So I am baffled as to why consumers here are paying so much more
for their LPG, petrol and diesel.

Every 24 seconds, someone has something to say about buses,
trains, cars or taxis.
Last year, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) received
more than
1.36 million responses as part of feedback over the phone or in
writing. This is about
double the number in 2007, a
spokesman told The Straits Times.
The surge is a positive trend, said Mr Cedric Foo, MP for Pioneer
SMC and chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for
Transport. '
As our society matures, the 'bo chap' attitude is
gradually giving way to 'I can make a difference with my feedback'.
This should definitely be encouraged,' he added.
Political observer and former Nominated MP Zulkifli Baharudin
said all feedback received, including complaints, should be
viewed in a positive light.

Foreign woman goes berserk after she's fined for illegal
parking

STOMPer Supernovi says this foreign woman kicked up a big fuss
after being issued a fine for parking illegally along a double
yellow line at Bukit Timah. The police eventually had to be called
in to resolve the matter.
Says the STOMPer:
"My friends and I were at Bukit Timah Plaza and we came upon a
Chinese National woman getting booked for a parking offence along a
double yellow line.
"Apparently, she insisted that the enforcement officer allow her a
grace period but when she came back, she received a ticket.
"Question: Which enforcement officer will allow anyone any grace
period for parking along a double yellow line?
"Clearly she was in the wrong and she created such a big fuss that
her own kid was crying. Afterwards, when the traffic enforcement
officers were about to leave the scene on their bike, the kid
allegedly blocked their way and caused them to nearly fall.
"The officers had no choice but to disembark and call the
police.
"The police came later and she kept on complaining that she was
still right and we were like 50 metres away and we still could hear
the commotion.
"After a good 20 minutes, they all left the scene.
"The woman should have known better, why create such a big fuss
when you are in the wrong in the first place? Please adhere to the
laws of Singapore, even though it may be just a parking summon.
"Irony of the story, one of the enforcement officers is also a
Chinese National."Date Published: May 28, 2012 - 12:25 am

I went to this famous, or infamous (depends on ur encounter with
them) shop at paya ubi for a tyre change 2 weeks ago. got the tyres
for a good price and since they hv alignment machine tot i might as
well ask them to do it.
car came back wif the guy testing it and he juz passed the
alignment slip to me w/o mentioning anything. i nv ask coz i
presume everything is in order.
now, couple of things happened after this.
1) a/c was adjusted to 'LO'. i hv nv set my a/c this low b4 and he
did it for me. fyi, when my a/c is in 'LO' mode, it will be working
at full blast to bring the temp down.
2) i rem i was on my fav cd when my b4 my car was being worked on.
when i took over, went over to fm..
waa, nowadays these workers really treat the car like their own.
really know how to make themselves comfy.
fast forward. i realized that my car is leaning towards the left as
soon as i let go of my steering. so 1st thing i can think of is i
got a half fark alignment job done.
so i went back and highlighted this prob.
below is the conversation:
me: boss, the alignment fark up lei. leaning towards the left.
he: ur car model is known for this prob la. its like dat one. some
more ur car lowered. sure will lean to the left.
b4 this my car is going pretty str. so i buay song liao.
me: then my car is like dat one u still do the alignment for
wat?
he: i already told her (lady boss) to tell u already ma. (ya right,
if i knew it will be like dat he think i stupid enough to spend
dollarsignr75 on this sh!t job)
then he offered 'kindly': if u dun believe i do again for u lo. but
i can tell u still like dat one la. (wif a buay song fark face)
best, he told me this: if u dun believe, u go to kenny there
lo.
i gave him a stare and told him i will be back once the lady boss
is around.
wa knn if not for the sake of knowing the lady boss, i wld kick his
nuts there and then.
so ppl who is going there, look for the lady boss instead.

Being sleepy behind the wheel is almost as bad as drinking and
driving, suggests a new study from France.
The study, published as a letter in the Archives of Internal
Medicine, found that
drivers who were either drunk or sleepy
were at least twice as likely to be responsible for a vehicle
accident compared to their well-rested or sober
counterparts.
Dr Christopher Drake, an associate scientist at the Henry Ford
Hospital Sleep Disorders and Research Center in Detroit, said the
findings do not change what was already known, but the study is
still "interesting".
"We know from experimental studies that just four hours of sleep
loss will produce as much impairment as a six pack. If you have a
whole night of sleep loss, that's equivalent to having a blood
alcohol content of 0.19," Dr Drake, who was not involved with the
new research, told Reuters Health.
Under the direction of Dr Nicholas Moore at the Centre
Hospitalo-Universitaire de Bordeaux in France, researchers analysed
information from 679 drivers who were admitted to a hospital in
southwest France for more than 24 hours because of a serious
accident between 2007 and 2009.
The researchers used information from driver questionnaires and
police reports to determine what may have contributed to the
accidents. Drivers reported what medications they were on, their
alcohol use and how sleepy they had been before the crash. Patient
files provided information on blood alcohol levels.
The
majority of the injured drivers were under 55 years old and
men. Over half were on a motorcycle, about one-third of the
drivers were in a car and 10 per cent were peddling a bicycle at
the time of the accident.
The police determined 355 of the drivers were responsible for their
respective crash. From that, Moore and his colleagues found that
being between the ages of 18 and 29 years old, driving a car,
drinking alcohol and being sleepy were all tied to an increased
risk of causing an accident.
Surprisingly, taking medications that carry warnings about
affecting a driver's abilities - one of the researchers' main
focuses - was tied to a lower risk of causing an accident.
Dr Moore told Reuters Health that may be because people taking
those medications are more aware of their side effects.
"Medicinal drugs might be an issue to keep an eye on and warn
people about, but it's not the main issue," he said.
One way for people to reduce their accident risk is to take a nap
before they hit the road, according to Dr Moore.
"Don't hesitate if you're tired to take a short nap or drink a few
cups of coffee. And if you drink coffee, it will take some time to
take effect," he said.
Dr Drake added, however, that coffee's effectiveness can wear off
over time.
"Anytime you're feeling sleepy behind the wheel is a danger sign,"
he said.
The standard techniques of turning on the air conditioner or
blasting the radio only mask the signs of sleepiness - they don't
make it go away. "They're good to get you to the next exit, but
it's not going to get you home," Dr Drake said.
There are some laws in the United States to punish sleepy drivers,
but Dr Drake told Reuters Health they are hard to enforce unless
someone gets into an accident.
"It's very difficult. There is no breathalyser for sleepiness," he
said.
The study did have some limitations. Some of the questions are
based on the patients' own reports, which may be subjective. Also,
there is no way to know how many accidents sleepiness actually
caused.
Overall, Dr Moore said the best advice is, "
don't drink and
please sleep".
"
There is no substitute for sleep," said Dr Drake.
