plastic ball in my Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 attached to A/C Drier do?
Okay, so I just came home on leave from the Army, and my truck has
been sitting for a couple months, occasionally being started and
moved around. It's a 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 automatic. My buddy
and I decided to change the oil today since it's been sitting for 2
months, and we noticed a plastic ball about 4-5 inches in diameter
hanging down from the engine. We looked in the top of the engine,
and noticed the ball was attached by 2 black wires or hoses (most
likely hoses) and one was attached toward the front of the engine
by the fan area, and the other was attached in the back left, to
what I beleive is the "drier" for the A/C......this part:
a-aironline.com/images/ARD8135_LG.bmp Well, It looked like it was
supposed to be mounted somewhere, but I didn't have time to get it
looked at. Well, I went for about a 50 mile drive, and once I
arrived at my desitnation, I noticed my A/C was no longer working
well. Even on Max A/C with full power, nothing would come out of
the main vents. If i put it to floor, I could get A/C from there,
or the two small vents on the dashboard by the windshield would
blow air out, but that's it. I opened the hood back up, and noticed
that the black plastic ball was gone. The hose that was connected
to the A/C part I posted above was gone, and the hose that was
attached toward the front of the engine was melted...I'm assuming
the hose hit the hot engine, melted the hose and the ball fell off.
Then a bit later my gauge for my oil starting spazzing out. Does
anyone know what part I'm talking about, and if so what is it for?
Any information would be greatly appreciated before I take it into
Ford to have it looked at. Also, when I turn on the fan and not the
A/C, nothing blows out of the vents either. Best answer: Answer by
MarkYou have more than one problem. The ball is a vacuum canister
and needs to be there. The other problem is your blower motor needs
to be replaced. Replace the burned hoses or lines the ball, and
check your fan. Add your own answer in the comments! [1]
