The Fair Debt Collection Act is the granddaddy of Collection Agency Laws if you use it to your advantage collection agencies will leave you alone.  Education is the key to dealing with collection agencies.  If you take the time to poke around here you will find information and links on how to deal with a collection agency and your state specific laws. Congress enacted the Fair Debt Collection Practices act in 1978 to combat the abuses of collection agencies.  It was supposed to bring about change in how these companies treated consumers.
