Take Care of Your Oral Hygiene
|
Everyone would want to have a bright smile, white teeth and fresh
breath. However you should note that the importance of good oral
care reaches beyond cosmetic concerns.
Oral hygiene is a key part of your overall
health and well-being.
---
Oral Hygiene for Better Health
Your gums and mouth are full of bacteria even when you take
good care of them. If you don't have good oral health or you need
an invasive procedure like a root canal or crown, it's easy for the
bacteria present in your mouth to travel to your heart, causing
serious infections.
If you take good care of your teeth, you can avoid the need for
costly and painful dental procedures like fillings, root canals,
crowns, or even dentures. Poor oral health in general has also been
shown to increase a person's risk of developing heart disease or
diabetes. Bad oral hygiene can cause far more serious and difficult
to remedy problems, especially if you have an underlying health
condition like heart disease or diabetes.
How to Improve Oral Hygiene
Dentists recommend getting your teeth professionally cleaned
and examined at least twice a year. While professional dental care
is the essential for oral health, what you do at home everyday can
be more important than regular dental visits.

Dental Floss or Oral Irrigator?

|
Dental Floss or Oral Irrigator?
|
Dental flossing is a good habit that still need constant promotion.
Many people still don't know that flossing is essential for the
health of their teeth, gum and mouth. Manual flossing can be a big
time waster, using an
oral irrigator can be much more fun.
Dentists and dental hygienists urge the daily oral hygiene regimen
of toothbrushing and flossing. Nearly all Americans brush their
teeth. However, studies have found that only 10 to 40% of Americans
floss their teeth everyday.
Dental floss is either a bundle of thin nylon filaments or a
plastic (Teflon or polyethylene) ribbon used to remove food and
dental plaque from teeth. The floss is gently inserted between the
teeth and scraped along the teeth sides, especially close to the
gums. Dental floss may be flavored or unflavored, and waxed or
unwaxed. An alternative tool to achieve the same effect is the
interdental brush.
- (From Wikipedia article
Dental
Floss)
Manual flossing can be take up too much time as you need to floss
each and every space between your teeth, it also needs a lot of
attention as not to cause gum bleeding. There is another choice for
you:
Oral Irrigators!
An
oral irrigator is basically a powered device
which shoots high-pressurized water, used for removing unwanted
parts in your teeth, space between teeth, and braces. It can be
more effective and efficient in comparison with manual flossing
with a dental floss.
And above all, it's also much more fun! Pick a new
oral irrigator today, and improve your oral
hygiene!

IConair WJ3CS Interplak Review
I have a great countertop
water pic, but needed a small compact one
for traveling. I've tried others and they are all awful. The ones
that are one-piece like the
Panasonic not only have a small chamber,
but are very awkward to use - how do you get to all your teeth if
it stops squirting when you turn it upside down?
I found myself doing contortions to try to get to the inside of my
lower teeth. I searched high and low for a decent one, and this is
the first fabulous one I found. It's very intelligently designed
with excellent compartments to hold the hose and tips inside the
cover for travel.
The only draw back is that the lid needs a better snap-shut system.
I have to tape mine on when I travel. However that's a small
problem compared the the pluses - including a bigger water chamber
than any other travel pic. And it's much easier to refill than the
one piece units, so if you need more than one filling to dwell on
all your teeth, what's the big deal? I'm buying them as presents
for friends.

Interplak Dental Water Jet WJ6 Review
Dorota Kowalska wrote this review on
Interplak WJ2CS:
I don't write about products, but I do rely on what people
say about products and when I've seen all bad reviews for
Interplak water jet I just could not
believe it. I own this product for at least a year, this same one.
It works great. In the begining it used to hold charge a bit
longer. I could go for about a week on single charge now it is
loosing a preasure on about 4th day, which I consider great for a
year old 20$ oral jet.
Best 20$ I've ever spent! And belive me I am very keen about my
teeth, I had my braces at 20yo - well I am from Poland and 12 years
ago not everybody could aford it , and it was still prety new
there. I am 32 now and I did not had my 8th teeth surgicaly
removed, and they seatting rather deap in my gums. I used to be a
nightmare for me, I would get infection once a month or more
often.
I've always had a strong pain reliever handy and I was positive I
will have to go for extraction. Then I decided to try oral jets,i
wanted a portable one. First I got a
Panasonic, don't recall what model but it needed
2 batteries. Nightmare. To strong pressure at first than it was
weakening very fast and the batteries where running out very fast.
Never again. Than I had a portable
Waterpik - and the answer is NO! It was supposed
to have a different pressures and different attachments, whatever.
It sucked. Got rid of it and now my life got better with
Interplak water jet WJ2CS.
I did not have an infection since I am using it. I always brush my
teeth first then use the jet. I use luke warm water not to irritate
the gums. Every time I jet I can't belive my eyes what comes out my
teeth after I brushed. Than I feel sory for people who did not
discover irrigation. I am not planning to have another infection
nor cavity anytime soon. If I go away and forget my charger I just
simply go to store and spend another 20$ and get another
interplak.
I guess oral hygiene is a very personal experience and sometimes
you have to try couple jets before you get your fav one. Mine is
Interplak!

A Bit About Conair WJ7B Interplak Water Jet
Tired of the dentist urging you to floss just a little more
diligently? The path to dental righteousness can also be found
through "
oral irrigation." It's true. The
Interplak dental water jet uses powerful
pulses (2,650 per minute) to flush food debris from hard-to-reach
places between teeth and under the gum line, thus preventing
dreaded plaque (the leading cause of gingivitis and gum
disease).
Gentle yet thorough, this jet is an ideal tool for cleaning around
crowns, bridgework, and orthodontic braces. It can be used with
water, mouthwash, or antibacterial dental rinse. Seven different
pressure settings enable you to vary water flow for maximum
personal comfort and results, and a convenient button on the handle
puts on/off control right at your fingertips.
The 10-ounce tank comes with a protective cover and lifts off of
the 5-1/4-inch-by-3-3/4-inch base for easy filling and cleaning.
With 3 feet of coiled hose, you have plenty of room to maneuver.
The unit's four color-coded, easily interchangeable jet tips make
this an ideal unit for the whole family, and it'll leave your
dentist speechless!

Conair WJ7B Interplak Water Jet Review
SE Morrison from Asheville, NC, USA wrote the following
review on
Conair WJ7B Interplak Water Jet:
This is only my second water irrigator. My first was a
waterpik (worked awesome for a couple of
years then pooped the bed on me). It had been a while since I've
owned one so I figured I would give interplak (conair) a try.
The first thing I noticed is the water pressure isn't what my old
waterpik was (there's plenty of pressure with
this unit, just not as much). How much pressure do we need
anyways...I mean does our gums truley need to be super-pressure
washed?
No matter where I went I noticed that both manufacturers had a bad
reliability ratings, so I went for consumer advice. I looked up as
much info as possible on both makes. An online consumer guide rated
the
interplak best overall. There was my
deciding factor.
I've owned this unit for only a couple of weeks and am satisfied
with the build quality and features of this unit. After several
months of usage I will post an update of this review. I hope I
don't have problems like the others did. One thing I was sure to do
was register my
oral irrigator on Conair's website, just in case of
future problems.
Time will tell.

WaterPik WP-60W Review
I bought my first
Water Pik in about 1970 at the
recommendation of my dentist at that time. I think that I am on my
5th one now. I think that they have each lasted about 5 years on
the average.
Like others have mentioned, generally the hoses fail. In more
recent years they have not allowed us to get hose parts and repair
this ourselves. There have been years when I did not replace a
failed
Water Pik.
However, I keep coming back to using
Water Pik and am hooked
on using it. I am especially dependant on Water Pik for a good
cleaning of the few dental food pockets that I have. It has also
helped me to have healthy gums.

Compared to a typical
WaterPik, this is a workhorse. Even with a
little bit of baking soda added into the water, the unit works
perfectly. We are a family of EIGHT, so our unit gets used at least
16 times a day! It's held up without any problem for a year now.
Yes - this unit is loud, so beware.
Sometimes, to gain suction, a person must press down on the water
tank, to secure connection between the tank and the wand. Even so,
this brand is worth the extra money. The power is at least twice
that of a
WaterPik. Our ten-year-old got the idea
to take the device outside, plug it in, and use it as a weapon
against his brothers. We didn't let him, but we can see why it
would be tempting!
(The
WaterPik engine is so weak, the spray wouldn't
even reach the intended victim.......) Buy this unit, and your
teeth will be CLEAN....... But remember it's LOUD.

L. Abeyta from Denver, CO, USA wrote this review on
WaterPik WP-65 Personal Dental Water
Jet.
I hesitated before purchasing this, just because of the unsatisfied
comments others have made. But let me tell you, I now understand
why they all made those comments and can say with conviction, THIS
PRODUCT IS GREAT! I also experienced water leakage and no water
pumping through. Both are simple fixes.
To prevent the water leaking, PROPERLY and FIRMLY place the
reservior onto the unit. Doing so creates a seal and it wont leak.
If it does, it wasnt placed on properly. Try it again, you will
eventually get the hang of it. I only had 'leaks' the first couple
days.
As for it not pumping any water when it is turned on, you
just need to read the instructions. It says you need to PRIME it by
removing the pic, placing the hose lower than the reservior,
setting it to maximum, and turning it on until water runs through.
This isnt a one time thing. You need to do this each night you use
it; by doing so, it will work fine. If you dont, then water wont
pump through until you PRIME it again. It only adds a few seconds
to your routine, but nothing to be complaining to the company
about.
The unit is a little noisy, but again, not enough to complain
about, unless someone is trying to sleep.
It works great. I've had mine for about 6 months now, using it
nightly, and other than getting oriented to a new product, I
haven't had any problems with it.

Interplak Dental Water Jet WJ6 Review
M. Thurman from Indianapolis, IN, USA wrote this
review on
Interplak WJ6:
I just purchased my
Interplak about one month ago. At the
first use, I wondered why I always have to be the sucker. Is it
written in my DNA code? Is it some mental defect? I decided that I
might do some research just as soon as I cleaned the water from all
over the bathroom sink. It sprayed water all over the place (even
wet up my toilet paper), and the spray felt far too weak to be of
any benefit.
As I boxed up the unit to return, I wondered about the other tips
and whether or not turning up the pressure would do any good. So, I
unboxed that rascal, filled it up, changed to the sub-gingival tip,
and let 'er rip. Whoa! What a change! That tip on the highest
setting really does the trick. It even blasted away that wicked
popcorn husk that had settled under my gum line and had been vexing
me since dinner.

I have since decided that using the subgingival tip on the highest
setting is overkill. The pressure is strong enough to leave my gums
too sensitive, so I have turned it down a couple of notches. That
tip works so well that I no longer bother with the other tips that
were included. And it is just as well too, since the tongue cleaner
tool is likely a hospital visit just waiting to happen. I almost
drowned in front of the mirror when I tried it. There is no good
way to holler for help with a pint of water down your throat. I
caution strongly against that.
Overall, the unit is a great machine at a great price. I agree with
one of the reviewers about storing the other attachments on the
machine. The least little bump or jarring sends them all over the
floor or sink top. I keep mine stored in a baggie for the day when
I develop amnesia and forget why I never use them.
Also, I have to use my Interplak without that water stopper in the
resevoir now, or it won't work. I just fill it with a dixie cup or
something, and I am off to the races. I do wish that the resevoir
held more water at times. It has to be refilled at least once to
finish the job, but I shouldn't complain. I bought it because I
didn't want a big butt-ugly tank littering the bathroom. Next time
(when this Interplak breaks totally), I'll get the Quickpik to
attach to the faucet.

Waterpik Cordless Dental Water Jet WP-360W Review

I love this device. It is helping tremendously with my oral care.
But, after only a few days I dropped it and broke the attachment
and base.
I called the 800 # on the original packing about buying replacement
parts. They sent me a new one right away - no charge! Now, THAT's
customer care. I highly recommend the product AND the customer
care.

Waterpik Waterflosser Cordless Plus Review
The Geekster of Planetgeek.net wrote this comprehensive
review on
Waterpik Waterflosser Cordless Plus
WP450:
I was ambivalent about buying this based on the reviews that I have
read. I will say up front I do not have a Waterpik that sits on my
counter top and plugs into the wall socket. I had one once and will
never own one again. You pull on the hose and the unit travels
across the counter. No I found that I like the cordless ones
better. I have own the
Waterpik WP-360W. It was OK but the
battery pretty much had to be charged every week if used daily. It
held just enough water to get the job done, it was hard to fill
with water under the bathroom sink and I got about 3 years use from
it until the unit stop charging due to corrosion where the charger
plugs into the unit(This is because water spills on the
connection).
I then bought the Panasonic EW-1270AC. This was fine for travel but
it had allot of problems like the water cap always falling off,
water leaking out when you needed to store it in the
suitcase(always had to keep it in a zip loc bag to prevent the
remaining water that was always there even after emptying in sink),
the tip always falling on the floor as the way it was to be stored
should have held the tip better. Allot of germs on the floor. Plus
the batteries were not rechargeable. So even after reading the
reviews on the new Waterpik Cordless Dental Jet I bought one. For
the life of me I could not understand why so many negative and
mediocre reviews on this unit. But I figure it could not be that
bad as it was the number one seller of cordless water jets.
Here is a little contrast and compare on the reviews and my unit
the
WP-450 Ultra;
1. It is so loud it will wake anyone sleeping. Coffee grinder
loud!
** Yes I guess it is loud as it is near you ear while using! But
not that loud to me(i.e. I am a bit hard of hearing) My woman says
it is not that loud and she has great hearing**
2. The reservoir is so small it runs out in 10 seconds.
** Maybe this user has a leak in his unit. I use mine for about 30
seconds until all food is removed and I still have half of the
water left. And yes I am using the High pressure setting. **
3. The tip is so mobile (rotates all over the place), you can't
control it.
** Mine doesn't. Of course I have only had it a month. **
4. It is poorly designed, too large, and difficult to hold (Can't
imagine if you have small hands).
** I thought it was well ergonomically designed. I have nerve
damage in my hand that makes it hard to hold on to things and get
tops off of bottles but I had no problem holding the WP-450 Ultra.
I think it is most excellent! **
5. Poor battery life, long charge time, no charge indicator. After
two uses I needed to recharge! (yes I let it charge up initially
for 16 hours!).
** I have only charged my unit for 8 hours and have been using once
a day for a month. I has not slacked off one bit in pumping the
water out. **
6. Expensive, Poor Value: Price is ~70% higher than the WP-360
** Yes that is usually the case for older models. They usually do
cost less than newer models as the cost of production is higher
than years ago. It is actually 61.4 % higher in cost. The old unit
uses Ni-Cad batteries as the new one uses more expensive L-Ion or
NiMH batteries hence the higher cost and the L-Ion battery can hold
a charge longer. **
