Psychological Perception: Colors have a significant impact on us both mentally and physically. Color often has different meaning depending on ones culture gender, and age. However, in general, white represents reverence, purity, simplicity, cleanliness, peace, humility, precision, innocence, youth, birth, goodness, sterility, and marriage, to mention a few.
Defining White: White is the color that we perceive when all colors are combined – the mixing of all colors. White reflects light. Although a color may look white, it is likely not pure white – it has other colors in small quantities. Technically speaking, white, like black, is not really a color. Whites and blacks are “shades”.
What is Ceramic: Ceramic is made primarily of clay mixed with various minerals and water. This composition is then heated until it becomes a solidified. Since ceramic material is porous, the top surface is usually sealed with a glaze. The glazed surface is referred to as the design layer since it determines the finished color, design, and texture.
Ceramic Lamp Construction: Ceramic lamps and products are constructed in many ways: turned on a potters wheel, hand formed, rolled and shaped, or made with molds. Numerous textures can easily be added to the soft clay material.
Use of White in Décor: White is a neutral color and it will therefore work well with any color. Subtract color to calm things down – add color to liven things up. White is popular in decorating and in fashion because it is light, neutral, and goes with everything. It also shows dirt and is therefore generally more difficult to keep clean than other colors.
A white dominated color scheme could appear too stark or sterile for some while considered boldly serene to others. Successfully developing a white dominated theme that is inviting typically requires the blending of several shades of white along with different textures. When white is used as the primary color scheme, it is the shapes, textures, surfaces, and shadows that give the space definition and appeal.
When using white lamps, it may be desirable to incorporate other white elements or accessories into the space to add balance. Against a darker wall color, a white lamp will be more visually apparent than against a light wall color.
White Lamp finishes also have effect on perception. Glossy white ceramic table lamps bring animation to a room because the light will reflect crisply off of the surface. On the other hand, a ceramic lamp with a matte finish will express a quieter or softer mood as the light is diffused in many directions.
