I had the very same problem when I was young. I hated it for 10 years I was made go to lessons. They I went to college and found the chicks loved guys who play piano and hey presto I'm glad mum send me and I've been playing since. I found I had to do chores and school stuff and my grades weren't as good as others becuase of this but now its all worth it. Here's how to compromise with your mum, say you don;t want to do the boring classical and standards but you want to go to someone who will make it interesting, play U2, Usher, Timberland whatever you are into. Makes a big difference. So many people spend years learning and hating classical and giving up wasting money. Play beatles, AC/DC and what your interested in and you'll play forever.
