The following video give you an excellent example of how a small boat can plane with a single Torqeedo Cruise 4.0. The speeds this small craft achieves is amazing for an electric outboard powered boat.
This video will give you some indication of the speeds that can be achieved with a small boat, or in this case canoe, and a Torqeedo Travel 1003.
You'll notice that the Torqeedo is mounted on a side transom mounting. The author also records a top speed of 8.9km/h over ground. Not for a packed canoe together with a pooch on the bow.
We're seeing lost of interesting applications for the Torqeedo electric outboard motors, with a wide variety of vessels taking advantage of these clean, efficient electric boat motors.
While this electric boat may look like something out of a sci-fi
movie, it's actually a new trimaran project built in cooperation
with Granger Multihull Designs, Torqeedo Australia and Noosa
Marine.
The Granger designed trimaran uses twin Torqeedo Cruise 4.0. As you can see from the video the highly efficient design will allow longer cruising times with the electric outboards.
This video gives you a great sense of how fast you can motor in a small aluminium boat (tinny) or dinghy with a Torqeedo Travel 1003. While I'm not sure where this video was taken (looks like europe), it appears that the person in the clip is in about a 4 meter boat.
You also get a good indication of how quiet the Torqeedo Travel 1003 is. While not completely silent, these electric outboard motors are much quieter than their 2 and 4 stroke counterparts - and much lighter too.
The Travel 1003 is equivalent to a 3-4hp outboard and weighs in at a little under 10kgs.
Torqeedo's most popular electric outboard, the Travel 1003, is gaining favor with Yachties. If you're ever used a small petrol based outboard to power your yacht sender, you'll understand what a paid in the backside it is to stow it on board.
When you stow a petrol outboard, you either need to empty the fuel, or make sure it's standing up-right. They take up valuable space onboard and can become smelly and downright dangerous of they leak fule when tipped over. Then there's the weight - trying to attached a 20kg 2-stroke outboard to a pitching tender at an anchorage is not much fun.
These are just some of the reasons why cruising yacht owners are turning to electric outboards as an alternative. Compared to a petrol motor some of the other advantages include:
About two months ago I received a Torqeedo Travel 1003 for long term testing, I've used it almost every day since... I simply adore this electric outboard!
One of the big questions many people ask when they're considering an electric outboard motor is: "Can I still get my boat planing?". While there are a number of factors to consider, such as the size of boat, weight and efficiency through the water, it is indeed posible to get you boat up on the plane with an electric outboard.
The video above, hosted by Torqeedo founder Dr Christoph Ballin, shows that planing is possible with a Torqeedo Cruise 4.0 and a highspeed propeller. Used in conjunction with smaller and lighter boats such as inflatables, you can achieve significant speeds with a Torqeedo electric outboard.
Check out the following product page for more specs on the Torqeedo Cruise 4.0.
This video provides an excellent demonstration of the wide variety of applications for Torqeedo electric outboards. They are particularly suitable for inflatable yacht tenders because they're so easy to store. You don't have to worry about spilling petrol when refueling and at only 13kg's the Torqeedo Travel 1003 is highly portable.
The Travel 1003 depicted in this video delivers the same power as a 3hp petrol outboard motor and with the addition of a PowerFilm solar panel and a sunny day, you can be motoring all day on the water.
Setup as a bimini on this tender, the PowerFilm solar charger will keep your batteries juiced up while providing some shade.
The first thing you'll notice when you watch this video is how quietly this pontoon boat is moving through the water. The guys at Dolphin Boat Hire on the Noosa river in Queensland have used a Torqeedo Cruise 4.0 on this hire boat.
What a great way for tourists to experience the beautiful surrounds - without the constant noise of a normal petrol outboard. Plus there's no fiddling around with re-fueling. With extra batteries back at base, it would just be a matter of swapping out the battery if there wasn't time to recharge before the next passengers arrive.
Founder and managing director Christoph Ballin, demonstrates the Torqeedo Travel Kayak Ultralight Motor. Christoph explains how this motor has been specifically designed for kayaks, ensuring it is light weight and efficient. The motor will propel most kayaks faster than normal paddling speed.
To attached the Ultralight motor to a kayak all you need to do is attached the included mounting ball to the rear of your kayak. This means you can attached the motor whenever you need to, or leave it off without making any major modifications (or weight gains) to your kayak.
The motor can also be easily connected to your normal kayak steering system to ensure maximum maneuverability.
The onboard GPS will also give you important data including:
