Oscars 2011: Least-Watched in 10 Years

altSunday’s Oscar telecast is the least-watched Oscars in the past 10 years and has received various reviews of dismay.

This year’s Academy Awards was hosted by actors, James Franco and Anne Hathaway instead of the traditional comedians, in order to target a younger crowd of viewers. However this shift in the hosts has proven to be a huge failure as this year’s Oscars only garnered around 37.6 million viewers. The lowest number in the past 10 years.

The 2010 Academy Awards has 41.7 million viewers which gives this year’s telecast a 10% dip compared to last year’s Oscar show.

Critics have been slamming the show stating that it could be in Oscars’ worst telecasts, the show which attempted to capture a younger audience was downright painful while some particularly targeted actor, James Franco for seemingly retreating into a haze.

ABC on the other hand, stated that this year’s Oscar red carpet pre-show improved hugely since 2007 and that the statistics on online video viewing rose up to 29%.

Nevertheless, Sunday’s telecast of the Academy Awards gained majority of the viewers and beat-up all the other networks’ viewers combined.

Although “Two and a Half Men” is CBS’s biggest show garnering around 15 million viewers in just a week, CBS in a statement said that with Sheen’s conduct and condition, the show will no longer run as planned.

After CBS released the statement which declares the cancellation of the hit TV series, Sheen began to call on all his fans to help him get justice for the network’s wrong-doing. He refuses to release any further comments.
