Xoom Tablet Review

The Motorola XOOM Android 3.0 tablet PC is the first Android touch tablet from Motorola introduced on the market, as this Android tablet provides a new meaning and level of experience for Android mobile users.

The Motorola XOOM Android 3.0 tablet PC is powered by high performance 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra2 Dual Core for a processor, 1GB RAM, a built-in 32GB memory storage, and an impressive Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, this superb tablet PC pushes all the boundaries and provides a whole new meaning of fast, efficient computing and possibly more. In addition, the Motorola XOOM tablet comes with a Bluetooth, 1080p video and HDMI out port, 3G and WI-FI connectivity, and a 5 megapixel rear facing and 2 megapixel front facing cameras.

Sporting a brilliant and crystal clear 10.1-inch capacitive touch screen display fully optimized for HD video (1080p) in a 16:9 widescreen setting, as this offer such excellent viewing pleasure when watching videos, Web surfing, navigation, and playing games. The Motorola XOOM also suppxoomdynscomposite1300x192XoomTabletReviewtabletpcrevieworts Adobe Flash 10.1 that makes playing Flash videos and games much more entertaining and much exciting.  Aside from all these impressive quality features, what makes the Motorola XOOM stand out among its rivals is its long battery life, which about 10hrs continuous running time.

The Motorola XOOM Android 3.0 tablet PC is a well-built, very stylish, and well- conceived Android tablet, as finding flaws for this impressive device maybe next to impossible. However, there are a few drawbacks to this one, which we’d be remiss in not mentioning in a Motorola XOOM review, one is that the Android tablet sometimes has a middling display and OS stability issue.  Another, which is obvious, is that it is a bit pricey.   But these small flaws are totally insignificant compared to the impressive and superb performance and capabilities of the Motorola XOOM.

However, when you consider the performance of this once in comparison to some of the other, much higher priced tablets on the market, it’s actually a steal.  In fact, this is the tablet pc that I FINALLY settled on after heaps of research investment and testing many many models – and it is amazing!   3G was a must for me, though so that factored into my decision and the Motorola Xoom gets Free factory upgrades to the 4G network.   All in all, this remarkable Android device is undoubtedly a good buy and has jumped to the top of our list for good reason.

Samsung Galaxy Tablet PC Review

A brand new tablet pc Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab by Samsung is getting a lot of attention as the holidays approach.  It comes 3G wireless ready and has a 7″ screen that can be used in either portrait or landscape mode.

The Galaxy runs the Android 2.2 operating system on a Cortex A8 processor at 1GHz and 512MB RAM and 16GB memory.   It has a microSD card slot, dual cameras, and is flash ready.  The system is set up to download and read books via the Kindle ereader application and support V CAST for music, videos, sports and more.

samsunggalaxytabmulti300x218SamsungGalaxyTabletPCReviewtabletpcreviewThe battery life is impressive, with up to 7 hours of video playback and, yes – it does support Multitasking.  The galaxy also comes with bluetooth and even speakerphone capability.  There is also a 30-pin dock connector on the bottom that allows for HDMI, USB, and docking accessories.

By all intents and purposes, this is a great iPad competitor and even blows it out of the water on a lot of fronts.

Any drawbacks?  A few – Some gripe about the Android o/s being sluggish and unresponsive while others love it.  Some also state that the browser crashes on them while others can’t find a single fault with the device.  In all, there is really no overriding negative with this one.

Asus Transformer Review

The Attractive Asus Transformer Tablet Reviewed

At about $400 for the 16 GB model, the Asus Transformer tablet is one of the cheapest Android 3.0 tablet the world has ever seen. It may not be a great option on its own but when paired with the keyboard dock, the Asus Eee pad tablet is an amazing gadget for entertainment and productivity! There are a few flubs but the Asus Eee pad tablet surely has carved out a niche for itself in the tablet PC market. With the Asus Transformer that we love to the e-reader in the offing, Asus is sure to give tough competition to the already crowded tablet PC market.

The Hardwareasuseeepadtransformer300x200AsusTransformerReviewtabletpcreview

The design shares characteristics with so many other tablets out there today. A 10.1” display has several buttons, slots and ports around the edges. With a 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor, 1 GB RAM; the Asus tablet works on the Android 3.1 interface. Measuring 0.5” in thickness, it is longer than all other tablets which makes for extra wide views in the landscape mode. This makes a lot of design sense because this length then allows it to fit like a glove with the docking keyboard.

The amazing design execution carries to the rest of the tablet as well where the power and volume buttons remain at the upper right corner when held in landscape and the front facing camera is at the top center. The right hand edge has the 3.5mm audio jack which also works as the microphone output and the headphone output. The stereo speakers are towards the bottom but these are not the only sound sources which is evident from the fact that even when your fingers block the speakers, the audio is crystal clear.

The audio is transmitted from the bottom openings where the docking station connection points lie. The speakers on the Asus Eee pad tablet are definitely superior to any you would find on other tablets, maybe only beaten by the RIM blackberry PlayBook.asuseeepadtransformer1300x246AsusTransformerReviewtabletpcreview

The bottom edge has the 40 pin dock connector and comes with a USB to dock connector that can charge via the power adapter or a trickle charge through the PC with a cable. You can also transfer data from a PC with the cable. There will be additional accessories for the dock connector including a USB-A port and a SD card reader.

The IPS display of 1280 x 800 pixels on a widescreen 16:10 aspect ratio helps it achieve excellent viewing angles. There is no color shift as you move to extreme viewing angles making the improved colors the best on tabs second only to the Apple’s iPad 2.

The software advantages

There are several interface improvements Asus has made with it’s upgrade to the Android 3.1. The basic navigation buttons are better; the Asus keyboard offers the advantage of the taller number row over the Honeycomb keyboard; and a great selection of widgets make this a great package.

The disadvantages

Despite the amazing features of the Asus Eee pad tablet, here are some of the disadvantages you must know about:

  • The still and video capabilities of the camera are as bad as the other tabs
  • It does not have 3G capability
  • Some complain about both the onboard and the docking keyboards being a bit different and taking time to get used to

In spite of these and few other design complaints – with the docking keyboard, the Asus Eee pad tablet is a great combination of productivity and entertainment!

The Acer Iconia Tablet, an Android 3.0 tablet, is a beautiful, sleek, and powerful Android tablet, as this remarkable tablet PC is undeniably among the best Android tablets on the market today that offers superb quality performance and capabilities that will certainly give the competitors a run for their money.  The Acer Iconia A500 is the one that we will concentrate on for this Acer iconia review, although know that there is another model, the W500 that is much more powerful – to the point that it can replace your home or office laptop in some cases.  Mainstream tablet shoppers are looking at the mobile tablets, so we’re reviewing the Acer A500 here.

The specs of the Acer Iconia Android 3.0 tablet are superbly impressive, as it is powered by a high performance Dual Core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra2 processor, 1GB DDR2 memory, 16GB on-board memory storage, and a highly impressive and intuitive Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system.catAcerIconiaTab300x300AcerIconiaReviewtabletpcreview In Addition, this fantastic Android tablet comes with an impressive 5 megapixel rear facing and a 2 megapixel front facing cameras, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, microSD memory card (up to 32GB), G-Sensor, E-compass, Gyro-meter, L-Sensor, and a HDMI out port that will definitely provide power and superb performance in every multimedia, Web browsing, and playing console-quality games.

The Acer Iconia tablet pc boasts an impressive multi-touch 10.1-inch capacitive high definition (HD) touch screen display that features an astounding 1280×800 resolution, as this will absolutely provide such pleasure and superb entertainment in watching HD movies and videos, playing games, and Internet surfing whenever wherever you are. Enjoy video calling and chats with its 2 high resolution cameras, as the Acer Iconia Android 3.0 tablet definitely provide a whole new level and meaning of interactivity and entertainment experience.

Any downside for this awesome Android tablet? It wouldn’t be a proper Acer Iconia review if we didn’t at least touch on them.  So, there are some minor glitches with the apps.  An additional thing to note, that is a deal breaker for some and completely inconsequential for others is that this tablet is NOT 3G capable.  So, if you’re good with the wifi, then we can move forward.  If, however you’ve fallen in love with this one and must have 3G, no worries.  Check out the Acer Iconia 501A, released in May 2011 – that is 3G capable (and more expensive).  The only other gripe about this particular tablet is that is a bit bigger and heavier than some of it’s competitors, but the 10″ screen is quite nice.   All minor flaws and are negligible compare to its superb performance and impressive quality features. Overall, the Acer Iconia Android 3.0 tablet is really an awesome Android tablet. Its lower price tag makes it an excellent choice if you are looking for impressive iPad alternatives, which is why it is highly recommended as a good buy.

enTourage eDGe Tablet PC Review

The enTourage eDGe Tablet PC, also called a Dual Book, is a wonderful cross between a netbook, ereader and tablet pc.  This full-sized model has been on the market for about a year but is just now for sale by some of the bigger names, like Best Buy.   So, you get the ereader screen on the one side with e-ink technology and the multitude of ebook formats that it accepts and the linux Android powered lcd tablet on the other side.

This model is big, and heavy.  The two screens, 10.1″ LCD and 9.7″ E-Ink can be used at the same time.  It does slim down to about 1″ when closed but it weighs a hefty 3 lbs., about three times as much as an iPad.  Battery life is impressive – up to 16 hours on the ereader side and 6 hours on the lcd.  It runs on an ARM processor and has 4GB oentourageedge1300x236enTourageeDGeTabletPCReviewtabletpcreviewf on board memory, with access to an SD Card Slot for more and 2 high speed usb 2.0 ports to connect to even more.  For internet, it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.  It also has integrated speakers and microphone as well as ports to hook up external of both.  There is a webcam and a very cool feature is the Wacom Penabled e-paper input that allows you to write/draw on the tablet w/ the included stylus.

Downsides to this one?  Not many in all honesty.  You are really getting a lot of bang for your buck with this package, but only if you are a true ereader “user”.  If you’re just looking for the web capability, this may not be for you.  However, the full sized eDGe is able to surf the web, download and edit documents, play videos, and has the incredible advantage of the Android o/s and Android Market.  It is possible that this does not have gps integrated, haven’t confirmed that yet.  Otherwise, a fantastic all-around Tablet PC.

Lenovo Ideapad Tablet Review

A Review Of The Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet PC

When you are traveling, nothing is more essential than a gadget that is internet ready and is your best companion in every conceivable way. With just a couple of swipes and taps, a whole world of possibilities is open to you even as you are not in the comfort of your office with an Android tablet. Out of all the Android tablet PCs in the market today, one of the ones that is creating waves is the Lenovo IdeaPad tablet PC. Effortless working is guaranteed with this U1 hybrid.

Through this Lenovo IdeaPad review, we will tell you exactly why you should get one too. First of all, the 10.1” screen is a great size for most travelers. The tablet comes with a dual core processor from Intel, a dual camera and a 32 GB storage capability, expandable to 64GB. Not simply checking your email, surfing the web is easy and fun with the wi-fi connectivity. The best feature so far is that your Lenovo IdeaPadLenovoIdeapadK1Tablet300x228LenovoIdeapadTabletReviewtabletpcreviewtablet can be easily docked with a keyboard making it functional as a notebook PC! Operating on the Android 3.1 platform, this tablet can last you up to  10 hours before it demands a recharge. Now that is great battery life when you are moving from one place to another and may not really have access to a socket for frequent recharging.

Some of us may find it too steeply priced but the customizable features and the attractive looks make it well worth it. Another advantage to this amazing tablet is the staggering number of apps that come preloaded on it. The K1 costs a decent $400 though and in a white or red back, it is quite an eyeball grabber. This is real value for money since the capacity on this Lenovo IdeaPad tablet is twice what you would get on Samsung Galaxy tablet or the Apple iPad2 both of which have the same screen size at 10.1”.

Look wise as well the Lenovo IdeaPad tablet is a real catch. Even though the ThinkPad from Lenovo is the same as the IdeaPad where the processing unit and the display size is concerned but physically they are quite different. The ThinkPad was a basic black box and this is why you will be thrilled with the IdeaPad that is contoured, the edges are metallic and you can choose the back plastic in colors like black, red or white.

When you begin working on this gadget, you will realize that even though the features are the same, it does give you better image quality than other tablets in this segment. Despite its stylish design and amazing features enhancing the Android platform, there are some cons to this gadget too.

These may be minor setbacks but an honest Lenovo IdeaPad review can’t be without the drawbacks. The IdeaPad first of all lacks the GPS capability, and as of this writing, we don’t see a 3G version available.  Also, some users are still reporting some crashing difficulties with the tablet.   In addition to this, the speakers on this one are poor and the tiny sound does not do justice to any audio files. However, overall, the snappy design and usability of the IdeaPad is a great plus!

Entourage Pocket Edge Tablet PC Review

The enTourage Pocket Edge Tablet PC is a smaller version of the original enTourage eDGe, a super combo of an ereader, netbook and tablet pc all in one.  The new dual screen tablet has two display screens, a 6″ eInk ereader and a 7″ color LCD resistive touchscreen.  Both screens are Wacom penabled, allowing for notations and drawing with the included stylus.

Running the Android operating system on an ARM processor, the Pocket Edge has a custom Linux kernal overlay.  Access to the Android market and Entourage’s own App market and support forum are a tremendous plus for this device.   The Pocket Edge comes with 3GB usable on board memory and is expandable to 16GB through use of an SD card.  It has 3 high speed usb 2.0 ports, a webcam and is internet accessible via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.  The Entourage Pocket Edge weighs just 1.4 lbs and, when closed, is just 1″ thick.  Fantastic for slipping into a purse, briefcase or backpack.  Finally, battery life is also quite good with 11 hours on the ereader side and up to 8 hours on the LCD.

As stated before, Entourage has it’s own App market and is currently bulking up its music library with more than 8 million tracks andentourageedgermeng300x156EntouragePocketEdgeTabletPCReviewtabletpcreview albums available.  There is access to over 250,000 trade books and 1,300 worldwide newspapers, among others.  The Pocket Edge comes loaded with quite a few useful Apps right out of the box, such as a YouTube viewer, Media Player, Browser, Media Recorder, Email, and Calendar.

Downsides?  A few – Android is awesome but this one is running on Android 1.6, which is limiting.  There are plans to upgrade to version 2.2 in the works but no official rollout date that you can hold them to.  The Entourage Edge Tablets do not support Adobe Flash.  Not sure if there’s a fix or a workaround in the future on that.  Finally, ebook formats accepted are limited to epub and pdf.  If you know how to convert your ebooks with a free program like Calibre, shouldn’t really be an issue there.

In summary, the Entourage Pocket Edge Tablet PC is a great combo ereader and tablet PC for Best Buy’s $349 price tag.  I’d buy one in a heartbeat (plan on it).  If you’re someone that uses an ereader a lot and wants the features of a tablet pc to surf the net, check email, watch videos, view documents, and much more,  all in a very compact and neat package, this is the best thing that’s come along yet.

With all these great features, it is quite a bit of a drawback that it runs on an Android 2.2 Froyo OS. Since almost all smart phones and tablet PCs today already runs on an Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, as being the latest in its genre, this makes the Ouku Android 2.2 tablet PC seems to look a bit outdated. One Ouku review pointed out that since the tablet has two cameras, at least one should have provided a flash in it, however most mobile camera devices don’t have this. Other than these small flaws, the Ouku tablet Android 2.2 PC still proves to be a good buy.

Archos 7 Tablet PC Review

Archos is a French technology company that began building portable media players in 1988.  They ventured into the netbook and tablet pc arena several years ago and have a long list of discontinued models.  However, the Series 7 Tablet PC is one that remains active and popular due to it’s features and affordability.

The Archos 7 Tablet PC is named so because it has a 7″ display, 800×480 resolution.  It uses a Linux operating system and runs on a 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 superscalar core processor, with 256 MB of RAM.   In the storage area, it has 8 or 32 GB flash memory + Micro SD Slot.  The device also has bluetooth and a built-in GPS.  Battery charge is impressive at 7 hours of video or 42 hours of audio on a single charge.archos7300x218Archos7TabletPCReviewtabletpcreview

The real bonus with this particular Tablet PC is how much you are really getting for your dollar.  By installing the proper Apps, you will be able to view Flash with this, run Android, play just about any sort of video format, read your ebooks, and go anyplace online – for $199.  Wow.

The Con’s.  The touchscreen is resistive and and a bit insensitive.  It takes patience and training for some to get accustomed to it.  The Archos 7 seems to have a function that wakes it up every few hours and drains the battery.  Strange, but if you’re aware of this, I believe there are ways to look online for a fix for that or find an app to make it stop.

Otherwise, this is still a fantastic buy for anyone on a budget that is looking for a nice Tablet PC.
