Summary: Monkey See, Monkeys to do....

Monkey See - Monkeys to do.....  This is a really cute pattern that I made for my niece for Christmas.  It was so popular that I decided to make three more.  Now, like most sewers, one stuffed animal is fun to sew.  You finish it and look it over for things that you would do differently next time.  I have to say that it is a very good pattern, easy to understand - though I have been playing around with stuffing the arms and then sewing them into the side seams of the body rather than slip stitching them on after the stuffing has been completed.  Not so much because it makes the pattern more streamlined; which it does.   But more because my eyes are not what they used to be and therefore my hand-sewing is not so invisible as it was when I was  - - say, twenty-something.  The fifty-something eyes, not so good with little tiny stitches and don't even get me started on the invisible thread! Melly and Me is the name of the pattern, you can find their blog here Here are the slippers that are made with what was once a pretty impressive stash - this year there must have been seven pairs of slippers knitted throughout the year and these were a hodge-podge of multi colored soles and mixtures of thick bulky and thin worsted yarns from brown sheep.  The little fuzzy slippers in the front are an alpaca blend with wool and the colors are so subtle when they are felted - it gives almost a heathered look and for the little ones under 5 years old it makes a very sturdy boot.  The various eyelash yarns are bits and pieces from the late 1990's craze of all manner of sparkly things.  I hope that the recipients enjoy them. Here's to warm feet in 2011!  Well, that is about it for now - I will post the finished monkeys - they are awaiting eyes and some shorts before they can go off to Canada to my nieces and nephew.   Now for the UFO quilts that are lurking in the plastic storage bins!
