(More customer reviews)I have a toaster oven graveyard out in my dumpster. I was buying name brands and subjecting them to only moderate use, yet we were going through the things faster than pet goldfish.
For my most recent purchase I decided to pay for top quality. I based my purchase decision on my experience with other Cuisinart products and extensive reading of reviews from many sources. I've had my oven for about six months now, and I've been heartily pleased with my selection.
Besides durability, my chief concern in shopping had been size. It turns out this is even bigger than what I had before--both wide and tall. I can fit Corningware pans with the domed lids and knobs on top. Yet the outer dimensions are quite modest.
I wasn't sure I would use the convection feature, and in fact didn't get around to it until last week. It produced an excellent roast chicken, and I probably will use it more and more to make "weekend" dishes during the week. The additional cost for the convection over the regular was small, so it's definitely worth it even for occasional use.
The oven itself functions admirably. I love that it beeps when it's fully preheated, and the heat sensor really does keep it constantly and evenly heated to the correct temperature. I'm using this much more than my regular oven, especially during the summer.
The controls are easy to use and well thought-out as far as flow and intuitive functions. The only thing I'm not crazy about is setting the timer--one press for every minute, one for every hour. Gets to be a pain when you're setting 45 minutes. But, that is balanced out by the fact that the timer alarm keeps beeping until you come turn it off. No one little "ding" that you miss because you've stepping into the other room for a minute, leaving your food to burn.
Toasting is uneven as noted elsewhere, but this is typical of toaster ovens. Adjusting the rack can help. And honestly, it's really only an aesthetic problem. I do like that the toasting fuction includes a countdown timer so you know how long until breakfast!
My only real complaint lies with the broiler pan. Upon first inspection out of the box I was pleased with its apparent quality. But on the very first use it warped, and now buckles significantly on every use. Further, after the first washing I took it out of the drying rack only to discover rust along the bottom edge where water had pooled. I didn't even think it could rust, let alone do it on its first contact with water. I have to think my specific pan is lemon, as for them all to be like this would just be inexcusable in a product of such otherwise impeccable quality.
Also, the design team really fell apart when it came to the oven rack on which this pan sits. The rack--at least in one of its positions--actually wraps around the front corners of the pan. This means in order to take the pan out of the oven you have to lift it 1/2" vertically over the rack. Lift it and whatever's on it, plus whatever hot grease has accumulated, with nothing to grab it by. The other option is to take the rack out with it, which means tilting everything 30 degrees to get it past the stops. Not only is this bad design, it's dangerous.
But since I'm not using the pan every day, and since I love everything else about it, I'll still give it five stars.

(More customer reviews)I have had this oven for several months now. I missed an opportunity to by it as a factory refurbished unit, and ended up buying it new here. Initially, I wanted to hold out for a convection oven with a larger capacity, but the reality of unit size and lack of availability of a larger oven with similar features convinced me to by this model.
I think I made the right choice. It is large enough to bake and broil a wide variety of things without having to resort to the "big oven", it has accurate, even temp control, and enough features and custom settings that I am still discovering new and better ways to use it.
It is a pretty large oven, does everything advertsed in best of class fashion, it's very easy to clean, and looks "right" no matter how your kitchen is outfitted. Even simple tasks like making toast are handled better than any regular toaster or cheap toaster oven that I have tried. When toasting bread or bagles, the first part of the cycle brings the bread up to teperature without bringing the heat elements up to "toasting" tepmerature. Towards the end of the cycle, the elements glow bright red, and toast both surfaces very evenly, and to taste. The result is perfectly toasted bread, bagles, pizza slices, etc, without cold centers. The cycle can easily be tailored for your favorite bread. Perfect.
Before I forget, someone posted a "review" here that really was a question about what temp the oven is capable of. The oven can also broil, so that would indicate that it can reach high temps, and in fact, it can. The "bake" setting allows you to select a temerature on the display up to 500 degrees. Most any cooking technique that can be done with a quality conventional oven can be done with this gem. And more. When I first started using the oven, I checked it's indicated temp with my electronic thermometer that I use for calibrating industrial sensors. In every case, the indicated air temp was within a few degrees of reality. My full sized oven wasn't anywhere near that close when it was new.
Broiling, baking, defrosting, and reheating leftovers are also given the benefit of digital control over the cooking cycle. Even the crumb tray was designed for effective operation, and ease of cleaning. I have used a number of dedicated convection ovens, and more than a few toaster ovens over the years, but this one is in a class by itself. Even if you grew up with the microwave, this oven won't gather dust on your countertop.
Update... July 12, 2005. This oven is used most every day, and has proved to be a solid performer. As time passed, I have used pretty much all of the functions of the oven, and learned to customize settings to please me along the way. I have not had a single problem with the oven since the day it arrived, and being easy to keep clean, it still looks factory new (when I clean it). It is about as large as I care to have on the countertop, and for bigger jobs, I simply use the main kitchen oven. For most anything else, this is the oven that gets the call. I still rate five stars.

(More customer reviews)My wife and I put a white Toast-R-Oven from Black & Decker on our wedding registry, thinking it'd make a solid addition to our kitchen. Within the 1-yr warranty, our toaster oven stopped working. The button for making toast had ceased to depress and hold, requiring us to manually push down the button if we wanted to make toast. B&D had us snip the electrical cord and mail it back to them (I suppose to make sure we weren't just asking for another unit while keeping our current one).
We received the replacement a few weeks later, but this one also broke. Unfortunately for us, the 1-yr warranty had just expired. This time, the problem was the heating element on the roof of the unit. One of the elements (a rod-like tube that goes lengthwise along the toaster) started giving off sparks and then collapsed. Instead of staying pressed against the top of the unit, one of the rods had partially fallen down, bending at an angle. You might think this was a case of user-error, perhaps by the owner accidentally ramming too big a chunk of food into the toaster and cracking the heating element... but I am positive that neither one of us touched the topside heating element. (We typically used it to toast Eggos and bread, and used the pan to warm up leftover pizza, taco shells, cookies.)
The oven no longer works since the topside no longer generates heat. The bottom still gets hot, but a funny smell permeates when the oven is activated, probably because of the broken heating element on top.
Overall, this device is of such poor quality that I would not pay a single cent for another. This is the WORST item on our registry -- a piece of junk that causes headaches and frustration. I will NEVER buy another toaster oven from Black & Decker, and I am afraid to try any of their other kitchenware. I just can't trust their workmanship or design.

(More customer reviews)I can't say enough good things about this oven. What I like most about it is its exceptional toasting ability...slices come out toasted evenly every time. And if you want to stop the toasting process, just press "stop," which is a welcome change from other toasters where a dial has to be almost forced back into the "off" position. It also functions very well in the baking mode...preheats fast too.
Its polished chrome exterior gives it an upscale look and is different from the typical white/cream color that can eventually become stained/burned looking with time. If this was in a "Survivor" of toasters, it would surely outlast the competition. I've had two Delonghis in the past that performed poorly, and Krups (though pretty reliable) just doesn't look as good. Works great and looks great too. What more can you ask for?

My only minus is with the main oven rack. It seems a little short or flimsy as when any weight is applied and then it is slid in/out, it comes off of the track. I haven't had any food fall as it gets wedged low. It's just annoying and may eventually scrape the interior oven coating.

Now a month later and 5 to 6 uses and this one is dead too! (no lights, no heat, nothing) The unit just doesn't come on, and is dead. I wouldn't normally report the faulty unit, but 2 out of 3 failed on me so that is pretty bad. When it worked it was great.

I have even cooked a whole chicken in it. This oven cooks food evenly and I have had no problems with it at all. I highly recommend this product.
Update. I still have this toaster oven and use it almost everyday. I still absolutely love it and don't understand why everyone else seems to have issues with it. I don't know what I would do with out this oven. I have owned it for over 3 years and it still works perfect. I recently cooked a prime rib in it and it turned out fabulous.

(More customer reviews)Very nice. Great design. So far Im happy. I used to have an older Farberware convection oven and it was a bit larger. I liked it better than the new design. Im not all that crazy with the "pizza" design trend with the round exposed "pizza" area in the back of the unit. Its not insulated like the rest of the oven and its hot, and loosing energy thru heat loss. But it seems most ovens now are not concerned with effeciancy.
This company had a great oven about 8 years ago, and now I cant find it.
This is the best for its price though, and it does what its says, but the older unit was better. A bit larger, but much better! I found some used units of the old oven on ebay but they were pretty " used " so I got this one.
My last Faberware lasted 10 years. Im hoping for the same with this one.
Im sure you will be quite happy with this model. I like the crumb tray. and it comes with a broiler pan. Nice touch!

(More customer reviews)Apparently because this is a large, 6-slice toaster oven, the top heating elements in conjunction with the bottom elements would generate too much heat, and are therefore designed to stay off when toasting bread. Apparently the idea is that the bottom elements can generate enough radiant heat to bounce off the top inside of the unit to toast the top side of the bread. Thus it takes around five minutes for reasonably toasted toast -- far too long. Additionally, if you want to melt the cheese on top of your bread, you'll have to switch to broiler mode for about three minutes -- again, this takes far too much time when compared with my little old 2-slice toaster oven.

(More customer reviews)I received this oven in December and since then I've cooked a 13-lb. stuffed turkey, salmon fillets, a 4-lb. chicken, a casserole of stuffing, a lemon pie, peanut butter cookies, fajita vegetables, sliced sweet potatoes, and a frozen pizza. It took some trial and error but I think this will work well for me. What I like most about it is its pristine appearance and how easily it cleans up after use and then stores away out of sight. I like the fact that the timer alerts me when it's through cooking and I can watch the progress myself through the clear plastic container. I like that it requires no preheating and doesn't heat up the kitchen. I like that I can pause and interrupt the cooking to adjust the dish or add sauce or seasoning and then reset it to a new cooking time or temperature. I'm even becoming competent at using it to reheat coffee or my cold dinner. It's important to keep the food the correct distance from the heat source, or utilize aluminum foil to slow down the browning process or to allow food to steam through. I think this is a keeper for me as I continue to experiment with it.

I finally tossed it, and I have been looking for another oven that can fit a 9x13 pan. If you are looking for a large toaster oven, this is not the one, unless you only want it for a short while. I am so annoyed that I won't even look at Black & Decker.

Weber 616002 Char Q Portable Charcoal Grill Review

(More customer reviews)I was a little unsure if this type of grill would work with charcoal, but it does. The spacing between the grill and the charcoal is a little close for my liking. You have to keep a close eye on the food so that it will not burn. The food taste great because of that charcoal flavor that a propane grill just would not give. Now the problem, it makes a mess. Cleaning the bottom of the grill is a pain. You can not clean it a 100%. It leaves a little bit of the burn charcoal at the bottom. Also, the handles are a little "weak" for the weight of the grill in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the grill, but I wish it didn't have the problems that it has for the price that it cost.

(More customer reviews)While Krup Toaster ovens are high price and high performance, the broiler pans have a fragile teflon coating that scratches off easily. First time in the dishwasher left significant scratches. Obviously shouldn't use metal tools when broiling with this etc. Pity that Krup diddn't include either a porcelain or stainless steel finish. Only positive about this pan is that lacking a durable finish is that it is cheap.
