LG 47LH40 47-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review

LG47LH4047-Inch1080p120HzLCDHDTV,GlossBlack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First thing I want to say here is that I spent 2 weeks in and out of different electronics stores, comparing technologies and brands and features to narrow down the best HDTV's in the 46-47" range. Of coarse the Sony Bravia was the #1, but it is over $[...].
This TV came in on my #1, for it's 120Hz "TrueMotion" picture, and true 1080p quality. So I bought it.
For three weeks now I have had the pleasure of owning this HDTV, and let me make some things straight about other reviews.
1. The TrueMotion 120Hz feature is a little strange at first. What it does, is it puts a skinny Blur around the outline of an object in motion, causing that object to look LIFELIKE when it moves. This applies to people walking, trees swaying, and footballs flying. After about two days of watching, you may get used to it. I got used to it, and LOVE IT. It is now weird for me to watch other TV's without this. However, if you do not get used to it, you can turn off the TrueMotion feature and just have a 120Hz refresh rate.
2. The lip-sync. The LG TV is as smart as they come. It will take about 4 hours of TV time for it to calibrate itself to your cable-box or satellite-receiver. Also, depending on your HDMI cable usage, the problem can be solved by going on Amazon.com and buying a $[...] "Digital Audio Cable" and using that for your TV sound rather than the HDMI cord. Again though, easy fix once you get to know your TV.
3. The 47LH40 has smart picture capability. Which kicks Butt. My TV Room has two great big windows directly across from this TV. By enabling the Smart Picture feature ON, it will sense the light in your room, and adjust its backlight accordingly. I do NOT get any glare, and the picture is always razor sharp!
4. Little-known fact, is that LG makes the TV tuners for Samsung, Sony, Sharp, and Toshiba. So naturally, they will put the best technologies in their own TVs, making it one more reason to love LG.
5. It has 4 HDMI inputs! Which means virtually every component you want to connect (PS3, XBox, DVD player, Blueray, etc...) can connect with the best HD picture.
6. The 80,000 : 1 contrast ratio is deeper blacks for dark-shows and movies. This is truly noticeable. I replaced my 4 year old Samsung 32" HDTV with this one, and can not believe how much this actually can be noticed once you have another TV to compare it to. My old one had 60,000:1, and deep-blacks would appear "pixelated"... but any scene, day or night, a lot or a little detail, looks just as good (or better) than it would in person!
Now that I have given you a few reasons to consider this TV, I just want to say that in the past 3 weeks of me owning this, it has been nothing but excellent. My TV shows have never looked more realistic... Football and (preseason) Hockey make you feel like you are in the stands! And Video Games (PS3 specifically) make you feel part of the game. It is truly a great TV, at a great price, and I highly recommend it. Just have patience, if your lip-sync is off for the first two days, give it time to adjust, or watch the owners-CDROM they give you, you'll find out how to fix that. Everyone's cable input is different so the Tuner needs time to adjust itself.
Hope this helped!

Polk Audio I-Sonic Entertainment System 2 Review

I got the I-Sonic 2 just about a month ago and I am still amazed at how good this thing sounds. I got a Bose and a Cambridge at the same time, niether come close and are going back. It was great to do a comparision in my own home.
I read a lot of reviews on the first I-Sonic; best I can tell Polk has fixed all of the issues. It doesn't get hot, the display is easy to read, and the controls are so simple I have yet to open the manual.
The iPod dock works with my iPhone and my video iPod and my iPod has never sounded better. Really, you will be blown away by how good this system sounds. I have the unit in my bedroom and it is a perfect place to store my iPod when I get home; keeps it charged all the time.
The HD Radio works well with the single wire antenna provided with the system. I have tagged a bunch of sounds and bought a few from iTunes; very very cool feature even if you just use it to remeber a song.
I am very satisfied with the system and would highly recommend it to any iPod owner, its a perfect match.

The I-Sonic ES2 includes a second generation HD Radio tuner with full multicasting. With its advanced acoustical system, Digital Signal Processing, and new HD Radio tuner technology, the I-Sonic ES2 is one of the highest performing self-contained HD Radio products on the market. The I-Sonic ES2 accepts all iPod models with dock connectors in its top-mounted iPod dock, craftily hidden beneath a sliding door. S-Video and composite video outputs allow the user to connect a television or video monitor to the IES2 for viewing video content stored on a video iPod.

Four-Speaker I-Sonic Technology Polk's engineering breakthrough changes the rules for small system performance. Conventional table-top systems "beam" the sound straight towards the listener, even those with two speakers. At best, these designs can create a stereo soundfield for someone seated directly facing the unit. It's not at all satisfying for any other listeners in the room. Polk's exclusive, patent-pending I-Sonic design lets everyone in the room enjoy the rich sound. The I-Sonic stereo soundfield is projected all around. No matter where you are in the room, you'll get the full I-Sonic experience.
Deep Bass from Patented PowerPort Technology PowerPort venting technology belts out the kind of rich, powerful bass you'd expect from much larger stereo speakers. Bass ports redirect the sound created by the back of the speaker cone into the room. But conventional bass ports lose efficiency and create distortion because of air turbulence at the mouth of the port.
PowerPort vastly reduces air turbulence at the port mouth thereby reducing distortion and increasing bass output. This is the same technology used in Polk's legendary $10,000 Signature Reference Theater system. In the I-Sonic ES2 PowerPort delivers sound that is rich and warm, making all of your music and movies sound life-like and satisfying.
Advanced Digital Signal Processing Built into every I-Sonic ES2 is a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) with the processing power of a small computer. Polk engineers have programmed the DSP to ensure that you hear incredible sound at every volume level in every spot in the room. First, a Dynamic Loudness Contour automatically adjusts bass and treble response to account for your ears' frequency sensitivity at low volume. You'll hear rich, well-balanced sound even at late-night listening levels. The DSP also prevents distortion at high volume with its Dynamic Compression. Go ahead, crank up the volume and play air guitar to your heart's content. With I-Sonic the sound will always be crisp, clear and clean. Finally, the powerful DSP controls the time delay and frequency shaping that is behind Polk's exclusive and patented I-Sonic four-speaker technology. You'll hear full-bodied, huge stereo sound in every spot in your room.
HD Radio Technology Radio stations all over the country are converting to digital HD radio broadcasting. The chances are very good that your favorite radio station is or will shortly be broadcasting in HD. HD Radio brings you a host of sound quality, convenience and programming choice benefits. Your HD radio listening will be free of the static and multipath distortion of old fashioned analog radio. You'll enjoy CD-quality sound from FM HD stations and FM quality stereo sound from AM HD stations. You will never want to go back to analog once you've heard the HD radio difference.
The I-Sonic ES2 also allows broadcasters to show information on the display screen--information like artist/program name, song title, sports scores, traffic information and stock ticker.
Conventional AM/FM Radio The I-Sonic ES2 picks up all of the broadcast radio stations in your area. If your favorite radio stations are not yet broadcasting in HD you will receive standard analog AM and FM just like ay other AM/FM radio (only better sounding of course).
Sirius Satellite Radio (Optional) Add Sirius satellite radio with an optional add-on plus monthly subscription from the provider. Sirius boasts over 130 channels of digital radio, including 69 channels of 100% commercial-free music, live performances, artist interviews, and talk shows. Sirius is home to the NFL and over 40 NBA and NHL games a week, plus college sports.
Big names on Sirius include Howard Stern, Tony Hawk, and Martha Stewart. The Sirius bundle has a separate screen to display channel, artist, and song names, and plugs into the auxiliary port of the I-Sonic for high quality sound.
Built-In iPod Dock The I-Sonic ES2 has an integrated iPod dock on the top with a universal adapter for any size iPod, including the iPhone and iPod Touch. Listen to music or videos (Check Compatibility) through the dynamic sound of the I-Sonic ES2 speakers.
iPod Video with S-Video & Composite Outputs Use the integrated iPod dock to connect your iPod to the I-Sonic ES2 and you can stream videos directly to your TV via S-video or composite connection. Now you can watch and listen to your saved iPod videos easily, let the I-Sonic ES2 handle the hard stuff, you just sit back and relax.
Hear it. Tag it. Download it. Never forget it. Now it's easy to purchase songs you hear on HD Radio with the I-Sonic ES2 tagging feature and your iPod. Whenever you're listening to HD Radio and hear a song you love, simply hit the "TAG" button on the front of the I-Sonic ES2 to capture the song's information on your iPod. Then the next time you sync your iPod with your computer you will be able to download tagged songs via the Apple iTunes music store. It's that simple!
Tune into any HD Radio station with the I-Sonic ES2. When song information can be tagged, the tag button will light up. When you hear a song you like, press the tag button on the front panel or the remote (shown right). The TAG (song data) is stored in the I-Sonic ES2 and will store up to 50 TAGs.
Dock your iPod in the I-Sonic ES2 and TAGs will be automatically transfered to your iPod.
Sync your iPod with iTunes and your TAGs will appear in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes, ready for you to purchase directly from the Apple iTunes Music Store.

I set this TV up for a friend and the factory settings are not all that great. I changed the settings to VIVID then turned off/low ALL the noise reduction, gamma, black, etc filters with color temp at warm. Sharpness down to 20. With those settings, WOW!!! I was blown away with the picture quality on blu-ray discs via PS3 (Layer Cake, 5th Element, TMNT). Absolutely gorgeous picture. Played Battlefield Bad Company and it was a crisp, sharp, clean, beautiful picture. Gaming looks great!!! If you are looking for a 32" set, this is THE ONE! Best 720P 32" out there. Never seen anything better for this price.

Panasonic TH-42PD50U 42-Inch Flat-Panel EDTV Plasma TV Review

PanasonicTH-42PD50U42-InchFlat-PanelEDTVPlasmaTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had several TVs in the past 5 years, 2 projection Sonys, a Wega, and I can tell you this is the TV for under 2200 to end them all. I didn't want to spend over 2k on a tv because it just seems like over kill. I wanted to get an HDTV, because I had one before that was a sony projection. That was until I saw this one in the store. I talked to the guy at Bestbuy and he said that they haven't put this one out because they wanted to move some of their older models first. This TV will produce as good of a picture as any at the store. I sat and looked at all of the options, and money aside, not one TV at best buy or circuit city produced as good of a picture as this one. I have brought it home and have been watching it for a week or so. DVDs look great, XBOX with the colorstream cable looks awesome as well. I am still waiting for my HD box to arrive, so that I can hook up the HDMI cable. I couldn't be happier than with this TV. This is the first non Sony TV I have ever bought, and so far I am not disappointed.
Since my first comments have been getting a lot of feedback, I figured it would be a good idea to give a follow up to those still on the fence. 1) I received the HD box, and it looks even better. I connected with an HDMI cable which eliminates component cables and uses just one small connector, which controls all three component inputs as well as the audio to the TV (which most people use their receiver, but this is a nice option to have). Do not buy this cable from BB or CC, they WAY over charge. I bought one for $20 from some website and it works great, they charge well over $100.
2) I wall mounted the TV, directly across from a large window, and there is minimal glare. This is a window that produces a lot of light, and the picture is still fine even at high noon.
3) I went back and doubly compared the picture, and once again I believe the picture on this TV to be as good as any high end Sony out there. I am not naive, I understand lines of resolution and the down conversion of the HD signal should in theory not produce as crisp of a picture as an HD set, but from my point of view it does to the naked eye.
Answer to question:
How is this TV's picture when you play your regular DVDs and especially non HD (but digital) satellite signal. I recently baught a Sony Wega LCD projection TV that is high definition but realized channels like CNN look blurry, espcially when I play some of my DVDs etc...
This TVs pixels are pretty small, so the regular picture is good, especially on DVDs because DVDs native resolution is 480 which is the resolution for EDTVs. When you play DVDs on an HDTV it actually has to down convert it. To be honest the TV looks MUCH better with colorstream component cables or HDMI versus s-video. Same goes for DVDs, the three separate components look much better than S-video did. You may want to try that on your Vega. Also it depends on the size of the TV, the bigger the TV the blurrier the picture is going to seem, versus the HD signal. I noticed that as well on my 57" Sony projection that I had. I would say the difference is much less on this plasma. I can't really speak for other plasmas, and the comparison I made in the store were all on HD signals, so you can't compare it to normal digital channels.
I did originally have this going through standard digital cable and an S-video cable, and per Panasonic the "viera" filter this tv has helps smooth it out. But I did notice a difference switching to HDMI.
ONLY BAD THING:
No front AV inputs, it is starting to get on my nervers on occassion because I have it wall mounted, so way to reach back to plug it in.

Enjoy a true cinema-like experience in your own home with the 42-inch Panasonic TH-42PD50U EDTV plasma television, the update to the well reviewed Panasonic TH-42PD25U/P. It features an integrated ATSC tuner for receiving over-the-air HDTV programming as well as a standard NTSC tuner, 16-watt speaker system, and an included detachable table-top stand. This 4.5-inch thin plasma TV can also be wall-mounting with an optional kit.
Panasonic's Real Black Drive System technology operates on the fly, reducing the number and intensity of light pulses in dark areas of the picture to achieve the highest contrast ratio available on a plasma TV (4000:1). Such a wide range from black to white means great depth and dimensionality with vibrant colorsÑand this plasma can display an incredible 8.58 billion colors for a superior picture. Deep blacks provide excellent shadow detail during dark scenes, while brilliant whites render bright scenes with vivid realism.
The TH-42PD50U features a widescreen picture aspect ratio (16:9; standard TVs have a 4:3 aspect ratio), which is the ideal screen format for viewing widescreen video from DVD players. Designated as an EDTV, the TH-42PD50U displays signals in 480-line progressive (480p) mode, and can also accept 480p signals from video sources such as progressive-scan DVD players. While an EDTV doesn't have enough pixels for a true high-definition resolution, the difference is surprisingly small. Other features include a Progressive Scan Doubler, which upconverts analog signals to 480p, onscreen program guide for digital TV stations, 853 x 480 native resolution, and 160-degree viewing angle.
It has two built-in stereo speakers for 16 watts of total power (8 watts per speaker) that can produce virtual surround sound. It features the following video and audio connections:
Composite video/audio In: 2
Component video In (Y, Pb, Pr): 2
S-Video In: 2
HDMI In: 1
RF: 1
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV or monitor.

Apex AD-1500 DVD Player Review

ApexAD-1500DVDPlayer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There is a dividing line among the Apex players that can divide the buyer. Do you want a mindless playback machine or do you want a very powerful DVD player.
The biggest complaints about the Apex line of players is that they will not play DVDs, yet others say it plays them quite well.
Why such discrepancy?
Apex players use the same DVD players that are used in computers, which makes them very powerful. However, that kind of technology has difficulty reading damaged DVDs. Every DVD I keep hearing that will not play in the DVD player are heavily rented DVDs and mostly kid's DVDs. Look at the DVD, if it has finger prints, dirt, or scratches, it will not read properly in a Apex player. It's the EXACT same concept as looking at a CD-R and using it in a computer.
If you have kids who like to damage DVDs (um ... I don't know of any kids that wouldn't damage a DVD), the Apex player IS NOT for you. GO get a much more expensive DVD player that has the more expensive components to recover from damaged DVDs.
The best example I know is one of my friends who also bought a Apex player. He loves it. His wife loathes it. She tried playing a Winnie the Pooh DVD in it and it would not play. Her friend's DVD player played it just fine. After looking at the data surface of the DVD, my friend knew exactly why it wouldn't read in the Apex player, the surface was heavily damaged from the abuse of mishandling from children. It was also the same reason why it wouldn't play in a computer.
So do not get an Apex player if you have children or take your time to rent DVDs. Cause if you wait several months to rent that movie you want to see, chances are a lot of other people have rented and left behind dirt, scratches, and fingerprints. Sometimes, I have even seen "undetermined" materials on the data surface of a rented DVD. Which is always scary. Often a simple cleaning of the DVD fixes the issue. Sometimes, the damage is too severe to simply clean it and get it to play in the Apex player.
Why they did not devise DVDs to be more like a cartridge media is beyond me. It makes DVD players so much more expensive to try to get around damaged data surfaces.
Aside from that, Apex players are very powerful DVD players that have the ability to do wonderful things. It's ability to play MPEG files of both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 codecs of various bitrates and standards is outstanding. Very handy DVD player especially for those that are computer savvy. It can play a bit more than it advertises. It can play non-standard files too if you know what you are doing. Very internet friendly device. Kinda weak on the mp3 support since CDs have to burned a specific way before it can read it, but hey, it plays them well.
What's also interesting is that playing damaged DVDs is never a part of the professional review process in looking for a DVD. When they always test a DVD player for review they always play a new DVD. Probably because those kind of tests are kinda unfair. I mean how can you decide how much of a DVD is "properly" damaged for a test review. SO get used to excellent reviews on the Apex player.

Audiovox SIR-BB3 Sirius Satellite Radio Boombox Review

Average Reviews:

Here is the new and updated version of the SIR-BB2! Since they do not make the BB2 anymore, this is what you want if you have the PNP3 as it'll allow you to take the boombox anywhere! Note, the PNP2 and other Sirius receivers will not work with this, only the PNP3.
Improvements include a better and lounder volume so that if you're outside you'll hear the program much better! The volume is adjusted by either pushing a down or up button. Also it's not as "thick" as the BB2.
Plug in some D Cell batteries and you can go portable with it!
It includes an adapter to plug in, and 20 wire and antenna for reception. Note many with Sirius have to put the antenna just outside their window facing the appropriate direction (read directions). And everyone can get reception, it's just a matter of proper antenna placement.
You may want to look into getting the 50 foot Sirius antenna extension cable (see above for item information) to connect both antenna wire and boombox. You can connect up to 2 of them making a total of 125 feet of antenna wire.
And Sirius lineup, you'll never be able to find something you cannot listen to! And with Sirius you also can listen to Sirius online FREE when you signup! Sirius has 65 commercial free music channels, TWO NPR channels, Talk channels (Patriot, Right, Left, Air America, Talk Central, OutQ) and spanish along with Radio Classics (Lone Ranger, Suspense, Dragnet, etc.) and more! Exclusive include Howard Stern starting January 2006, Maxim Radio talk (Mens Magazine) channel, Eminem Shade 45 channel (uncut hip-hop), over 40 NBA games per week, NHL, Tony Hawks Domolition Radio, Barclays English League Soccer, All Division I Mens Basketball.
The trick to finding what's on and when is to look online at the channel lineup for times or listen to Sirius information channel 184 or better yet, stay tuned to the channel you like!
Sports, Sirius is the only one that has a 24/7 NFL channel that has each and every NFL game including your hometown broadcast feed! NASCAR will be exclusive to Sirius starting in 2007!
I challenge anyone to find this cheaper than Amazon with free shipping and no tax. It won't happen!
So there it is, if you want to use the PNP3 in the house, this is what you need!

Toshiba 19AV600U 19-Inch 720p Portable LCD HDTV, Black Review

Average Reviews:

I compared the picture quality of the Toshiba 19AV600U side by side with Samsung (at our local Best Buy) after tweaking both to their maximum quality and the Toshiba had truer colors with accurate flesh tones, probably due to the 10 bit color. The sound was also much better (and louder) than other TV's of the same size. If you can live without the headphone jack, then this will be a great choice, especially for a small bedroom or kitchen.
One more thing that impressed me and my daughter was how the TV cleaned up the standard analog cable channels, apparently due to the noise reduction feature, which we put on high. Some of the channels even look as good as digital or HD. The 19AV600U also has (2) HDMI jacks and is a great looking little TV even when it's off. We mostly buy SONY but was settling for Samsung (since Sony is not that impressive in this size range) until I ran across this little jewel.

Aiptek DV4500 4MP MPEG4 Pocket Digital Camcorder Review

AiptekDV45004MPMPEG4PocketDigitalCamcorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I gave it 5 stars not because it's a great camera, but because it's great & handy for the price.
My new pocket Digital video camera (DVD quality) I just got for Father's day (a week early) I take everywhere. The camera has headphone jacks & a built in speaker. It doubles as an mp3 player & is a great little still camera too. It can also play the role as an external disk drive to hold or transfer any type of files.
The camera is about the size of a pack of U.S. cigarettes which easily fits in any pocket. It encodes video into MPEG4 compression format, the same format used in HDTV broadcasts. So with a 512MB card (not included) if I don't have any stills or music loaded in it, I get 90 minutes of DVD quality recording time on it. The catch is it's only 10fps at DVD resolution. But still looks very good. It has several lower resolutions too, including VHS resolution at 30fps for smoother motion. But at that resolution it still looks better than standard VHS tape. No tape noise, grain, jitter, saturation, sync or color dot problems. It has no moving parts except for the buttons & the swing out screen. Everything is recorded digitally onto a memory chip.
Of course most computers are much higher resolution than most TVs. So the slightest flaws or artifacts will be more noticable on the computer than on most TVs. Burn them onto VCD, SVCD, or DVD to play them on your TV. If your graphics card has s-video output or better, just plug that into your TV.
On the lowest video resolution, also 30fps, it looks like those small low bandwidth online streaming videos you can watch on the net, not good at all but usable. If you're planning on sending video on limited bandwidth or file sizes the lowest resolution will be handy.
On that low a setting it'll record for hours or until the batteries die, making it great as a hidden spycam or nanny cam. It also is a net cam too.
It takes only 2 AA batteries so you won't have to keep running to the charger with expensive short-lived battery packs. I'm using Sony 2600mha newer rechargables I already owned. They lasted till the memory was full with a readout of 80% of battery life still left. So I have no experience on how long ordinary cheap AA batteries would last. The specs say 60 minutes with ordinary AA alkalines. I threw in a pair of 2000mah rechargables I got cheap in a 20 pack from Amazon. It recorded 90 minutes of video with plenty of power left over. When plugged into the USB port, it'll use the USB power, not the batteries, averaging a current draw of about 300ma.
The included video editing software is better than software that I already had that cost almost as much as the camera... & it's easier to use. It will work for editing any video, not just the ones made by the camera.
The camera & software are specifically designed for XP. But because without the software, if you plug it into the USB port, any computer will recognize it as an external drive. You can tranfer your files off or onto the camera as easy as you can move files from 1 disk, folder, or drive to another. Doing it that way, without the included software you can watch or burn your videos & pix on any computer, even a mac or linux machine. I tried it, it does work. Your computer will need an MPEG4 player to play the video. It will list video as AVI files, but if you ever had MPEG4 files before, it usually lists them as AVIs.
If you have the memory card, the computer will recognize it as 2 drives, the card & the internal memory.
Oh, it also includes jacks to plug it in to your TV, VCR, external burner, or stereo, & play your images, movies, or music without a computer.
Digital cameras need a lot more light than their analog tape or film sisters... this one too. It has a flash for still pictures, which works well, but no built in light for video. For indoors video you'll need all your ordinary house lights turned on their highest setting, or be near a good window in the daytime. Outdoors, there was plenty of light even on the cloudiest days even after sunset at dusk. Shortly after that, there won't be enough light.
It also comes with a mini pocket tripod, cheap but useful.
I experimented by duct taping a fairly bright 7-LED flashlight to it to video in a dark nightclub. I still had to get within 3 feet of my subject to get a fairly lit image. In the future I may build an infrared LED illuminator for it & video in Black & white in the dark... yes it has a B&W setting.
No optical zoom, digital zoom only, so any more than a tad of digital zoom,
& your images will look like the lowest resolution settings.
Bottom line, this is not a great camera. It's a cheapie. But for ease, portablity, flexibility, you can't beat it for the price... very handy, you can take it anywhere, & I never leave home without it.

Bookeen Cybook Opus eBook Reader Review

BookeenCybookOpuseBookReader
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bookeen has been around much longer than the Kindle and for a long time, it was one of the only readers that could be purchased in non-US countries so it has developed a rather loyal following in international circles.
However, Bookeen has squandered a great deal of their customer loyalty by introducing buggy software and promising firmware fixes that, if delivered, are often more than a YEAR later than announced. Sony and Kindle, by contrast, have both made significant upgrades via Firmware within the first year of ownership (I have owned all three -- at this point, the Kindle DX is my reader of choice with the Sony being a close second).
Things I like about the Cybook:
1. Supports ePub which means you have a very large number of bookstores and public libraries from which to acquire your reading material (though Amazon Kindle titles will not work.
2. SD slot -- provides a mechanism for organizing books by keeping fiction on one sd card and non fiction on another or any other "filing system" you can imagine.
3. Screen -- because Cybook has not given into the touchscreen fad (like Sony), their display is crisp and very easy to read.
4. User interface is easy to use and look of the device is stylistically "pure". I guess with the whole iphone thing, buttons are declasse and this reader has minimal buttons but that doesn't compromise ease of use.
Things I don't like about the Cybook:
1. Firmware tends to be buggy and Bookeen is not great about fixing those bugs... if you email technical support and IF you get a response, it will most likely inform you that a workaround is available and there will be a firmware update "soon". However, if you read any of the mobile read forums, you will realize that these firmware updates are vaporware.
2. Price of 5-inch Opus not competitive -- however that can be blamed on the exchange rate and not really Bookeen's fault.
3. Screen size -- this is just my personal preference but I really prefer the additional real estate that a larger screen (even 6 inches makes a significant difference) provides... If you are middle aged like myself, you are probably starting to find that it is just a bit easier to read if you can enlarge the font size. I know many will disagree with me on this -- they like to have something that is smaller and more "portable" so again, this is very much a personal preference thing...
4. ePub -- the older Cybook readers supported Mobi (precursor to Amazons' AZW format) which is a far superior format in terms of format and readability. I personally am not wild about the ePub format but unfortunately, the best format doesn't always win the standards battle (just as Sony -- they are painfully aware of this!)
5. post-sales support is ABYSMAL. Again, just do a search on Cybook firmware upgrade and you will read of endless frustration with customers basically dumping their ereaders out of sheer frustration because Bookeen has so little regard for current customers and only seems interested in acquiring new ones.
If you want a smaller reader, I believe there are better choices out there -- like the Astak Inc Astak 5-inch Pocket Pro (Blue) EZ Reader or even the Sony Digital Reader Pocket Edition - Silver (PRS300SC) and they have a proven track record for supporting their products.
There are so many choices of readers at this point and what is important to you will be different from what is important to me. However, I think everyone should be able to agree that if you are spending several hundred dollars on a device, the manufacturer that sells it should support it -- Bookeen fails miserably on this and for that reason alone, I would encourage others to consider any of the many other readers that are available on the market today.

Promaster 7200EDF Digital Electronic Flash - Canon Review

Average Reviews:

I was talked into this flash by my local photog store and do I wish I had stayed with my original choice of the Canon 430 EX II. The saleperson sold me on the dual flash feature of the flash and it works. That feature is not why I am wishing I had purchased the Canon. The flash shoe connection is the reason for the low rating. When attached and tighted down to the point you can not turn the connection screw any tighter, the flash does not make a solid connection to the Canon when you turn the camera to take a portrait shot. Landscape pictures are fine.
The flash recharging between shots is very slow. There's not a low battery indictator to let you know you need to change batteries. If you are needing a flash for the occassional low light shot, then this is the one for you. If you are needing a flash to do more, then look to either the 430 EX II or 580 EX II.

Panasonic SDR-H18 30GB Hard Disk Drive Camcorder with 32x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Review

PanasonicSDR-H1830GBHardDiskDriveCamcorderwith32xOpticalImageStabilizedZoom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My current camcorder is over [..], and I found that I just wasn't using it much anymore. Two reasons: It was a little big to carry around, and it recorded to tape, so deleting 'bad' scenes was not practical until it got to the PC. All the new camcorders are plenty small enough to carry around.
I like the workflow of digital cameras in that you can easily delete the garbage shots after taking them. I wanted the same for a camcorder, which meant DVD or HDD was my choice, despite the possible reduction in end quality as compared to tape (HDD/DVD compress the image, tape doesn't). DVD was out for me since its capacity is very limited, and I just don't trust writing to DVD (I've had too many fail while closing the session on my PC). So it's HDD, even though I compromise image quality over tape.
I also wanted a long zoom lens. With a long zoom lens you have to sacrifice the larger CCD's, and larger CCD's allow for better image quality. Another compromise.
This left me with three final candidates in my price range: Sony DCR-SR42, JVC Everio GZMG155 and Panasonic SDR-H18. The Sony specs list 40x zoom, but the number that counts is the focal range (1.9 to 76), which actually gives you about the same true zoom as the other two (they advertise 32x). So they are equal there.
The final difference came down to price and the image stabilization. Only the Panasonic had optical image stabilization, which generally does a better job than electronic. This is especially important for these long zoom cameras. So the SDR-H18 won, and it was the least expensive also.
Considering the 'compromises' I had to make to go HDD and long zoom, I'm very happy with the image quality when played back on a standard def TV (haven't tried HD TV yet). It's at least as good as my old Digital-8 Sony image. The image stabilization is better than I expected - I had no problem holding the shot steady free handed at 32x.
BTW - No need to install the included CD. Windows XP recognized the camera and mounted it as a hard drive. Just copy the movies to your system like normal works. You may want to rename them to MPG files though, and set the widescreen flag in the file since the camera doesn't. Search for sdcopy.exe for a free simple utility to copy, rename and set the flag for you.
The only downsides I noticed so far:
Very low light feature on camera is useless as compared to Sony's IR mode. The Pana just makes the exposure time huge, which means you can only record still scenes in very low light. Not a problem for me though as I don't find the need to record in the dark much! Normal indoor light is OK, but not great.
The supplied battery won't last very long on a charge. Amazon has a battery CGA-DU21 which will 3 to 4 times as long for a very low price.Update on experience with it: I have had the chance to try the video on a 42" LCD HD TV using the S-Video connector. It's not HD for sure, but the quality was acutally pretty good. I expected it to magnify the compressions issues to the point of being distracting. Others in the room actually commented how clean the video looked (the sample was from video taped outdoors in bright light).
One additional negative to add is that you can't delete a shot until you are in playback mode. I'd like to be able to delete it as soon as I've finished shooting it from the record mode thus saving a couple steps. Overall, no regrets.

It's hard to believe such a small camcorder is capable of doing such great things. Panasonic Palmcorder SDR-H18 Camcorder is perfect for extended trips with its internal 30GB hard drive that holds as much video data as up to 22 8cm 1.4GB DVDs. That's about 22 hours worth of high-quality video. The SDR-H18 offers a 32x extended range zoom capability. Panasonic's selectable Optical Image Stabilization system helps reduce blurred images that result from normal handheld movements. Stills and videos may also be recorded on SD or SDHC memory cards. A built-in USB port lets you transfer images recorded on the 30GB hard drive directly to your PC or Mac for extended video storage or editing. Shoot in 4:3 standard or 16:9 widescreen visual modes - fill your TV screens. Memorex 8.5Gb/ 2.4x DVD+R Dual Layer (25-Pack Spindle) Review

Memorex8.5Gb/2.4xDVD+RDualLayer(25-PackSpindle)
Average Reviews:

I had an NEC OEM shipped by Dell. After a few coasters, I researched the reasons why. Unlike DVD+R discs, the DL discs work only with specific drives and specific firmwares. If you use NEC, you need 2.18 version. You can easily upgrade your firmware by going to NEC site.
Once you fix that, these discs work like a champ. More affordable than other DLs.
Just an addition after several months of using the dual layer: Once in a while you will come across Memorex DVD+R DLs that are defective. It would copy fine but when you try to play it (even on the computer), it will give an error message. Although Memorex offers lifetime warranty, I have not been able to get through to customer service. After a week of sending them a message, no response.
If you want to play any dual layer media to play on your home DVD player, you need to set the booktype to DVD-ROM. This advice is not specific just to Memorex. You need to do that with all brands.

Xtremehd 2M HDmi To Dvi Cable Review

This cable is the best DVI to HDMI cable I have used yet. I'm currently using it to write this review on my LCD TV. The connectors are sturdy and have good construction, and the plug casings are tough as well. The plug casings are small enough to be used even in tight port places like on my laptop, and the rubber coating on them makes them easy to grip and identify when reaching behind things.
Video quality is great and it does exactly what the description says it will. And of course it ships with the connector covers for when you're not using it.

Sharp AQUOS LC32LE700UN 32-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV Review

Average Reviews:

This is a wonderful TV. The picture is outstanding and the Home Theater Store in Houston not only came up with an outstanding price but excellent service. Try to buy from this store. They are the best.
Yes, the tuner is a little slow but 99% of us are going to use this set with HDMI sources like a HD cable or Satellite box - right? No flaws in the display but you have to open the little door on the remote and find the A/V mode that suits your environment. This set has a huge number of "knobs to turn" as far as setting up the picture so be careful and find the mode and settings that you need. Once you get it set - it will blow you away.
Yes, the sound isn't what you got out of the 250# "console" TV that you just replaced. It has small speakers because it's a flat panel TV. They are all that way. So stop complaining and go buy yourself a little 5.1 channel sound system that has an optical input. Hook it to the optical output of this set and the Cable or Sat box (see below) and it will be the best show you have ever heard or seen. Better yet, go buy yourself one that has a DVD upconvert or Blue Ray DVD player in it. The LG LHT854 on Amazon is a good example (for less than $200). Buy your optical and HDMI cables here on Amazon too and save a lot of $. All the hype you read about certain cables being better is wrong. They don't need to be gold or start with "M". Speaker cables don't need to be big, fat and hard to work with. Unless you are running 2000 watts or more, 18 or 16 gauge wire is just fine. It's all digital data so there is no way the optical or HDMA cable can effect the quality of the sound or video. Be sure to connect your optical sound cable from your cable or Sat box directly to your sound system so you don't pick up a delay from the TV processing it. IF your sound system has only one optical input, buy an optical splitter/combiner on Amazon for a couple of dollars and combine the optical sources from the TV and cable or Sat box. This all works.
Sharp has taken the most appropriate road on LED backlighting in my view, simply replace the florescent system with proven technology that was developed for the laptop industry by leaders like Apple. It's very bright and even.
Since writing the above review, I have become even more sold on this product. Sharp has a fairly small market share in this field so they try hard to support their users. They offer a program called Aquos Advantage. It includes 3 mo.of warranty extension and a newsletter with info on using their products. It also includes a REAL help line you can call to get help if you don't understand something or can't make a feature work. If you are new to HDTV this may be of value to you. They also have a Facebook page and are very responsive through that site. The bigger manufactures may have these contacts as well but Sharps people seem to care about each customer.
The other thing I have noticed is the quality of the graphics engine. I connected my 3 year old standard def (480P) DVD player to the set using the "component" connection and the picture is as good or better than from an HDMI-connected Up-convert player. This indicates that the graphics engine in this set is outstanding.
When you get yours, open the little door on the bottom of the remote control and check out the different preset video modes. You will find them very helpful as you try different sources or types of material.
